BigCedars SuperHot Grow 2012

Hey Everyone :) 2012 will be my first full year being a member of this great forum. So, I figured why not do a start to finish growlog for the first time. Instead of writing down a journal of germination times, flower times, ferts, soils, plant out dates, etc.. like I have in the past.. I'll be using my growlog instead. There will be extra information that I'm sure the seasoned pros won't need to read but I'm sure anyone new to this hobby will enjoy the extra info I'll be posting. I absolutely love checking up on other members growlogs, It's my daily newspaper! I figured as much entertainment you all have given me this year.. It's time to entertain back. Hope you all enjoy.

One more thing..
Before we get started with the grow porn..
A special thanks goes out to anyone that has helped me out since joining THP. I appreciate it more than you know.

Alright, lets get this party started.

So 12/15 and 12/16 were the only time I had to do this unless I wanted to wait until January because of my work and family xmas parties. I have a greenhouse, which means I can harden off earlier than those who don't. I figured.. Why not start a couple weeks early!? So that's what I did :D

I'm using Hoffmans Seed Starting Mix for the first time this year. I can already tell this stuff is as great as people have said. It's so soft and fluffy, I have an extra bag.. I told my wife I'm puttin a pillow case over it and swappin out my pillow  I prepared everything 12/15

982.jpg

985.jpg

If you use hoffmans.. you have to soak it overnight or knead water into the soil in a plastic tub.. which is what I ended up doing after realizing it wasn't absorbing water from my spray bottle.. So after I did that, I prepped 4 72cell flats with soil, put 4 of each seed variety in the cups, let them sit for 8hours.

1003.jpg

After planting 288 seeds by hand.. I've realized that before this season is over.. I need to invent a faster way to do this.. my god that took way to long. All worth it though :)

1006.jpg

My grow closet.

1008.jpg

I'm using hydrofarm heating mats with hydrofarm heat mat thermostats set at 82 (the one further back in the closet is always warmer..)

1007.jpg

One more thing if you have kids.. My daughter use to love to open the closet door.. Now she likes to shut the door..
I came up with a solution for both the problems.
Bricks so she can't shut the door? Check
Dog leash so she cant open the door? Check.
Let the growing begin.

1010.jpg

The List
I would love to have 3 plants of each.. so I'm starting 4 of each hoping for the best. If I have too many.. Well, I'll find room or give them away :hell:

I will be keeping this posted every week with germination rates.

I'm just doing supers for the first time this year.
I have a good amount of non supers that I'm overwintering. I figure with what I'm growing, If something does cross..I'tll most likely be a superhot cross. And you can't go wrong there!

Brandon

Well its certainly no time for me to put my foot in my mouth.................But happy getting the plants out of the house!
In nine months you'll be planting seeds again!
Cool flower shots!.........where did they come from?......haha
Your plants are headed in the right direction, and the greenhouse still looks like you have plenty of room for those plants to share space.......cool!
Nice update...........I have to fly ........have fun with the upcoming week!

Greg

Hey Brandon, everything looks pretty amazing! I am definitely on the "Get a bigger Greenhouse Bandwagon!" You are definitely in need of some more space. I think that putting mine in the garage has been the saving grace for me on this one. With the new baby, if I even tried to use a room in the house, the wife would have castrated me.....

Hey Matt, Thanks alot dude! Haha, I think space will always be an issue for me, I could own 60 acres and I'd still find a way to fill it plus some lol. Part of the hobby right? :) Good news is the plants will only be in the GH for a few weeks. I plan on potting them up and bringing them out in May. I wish I had room in the garage, so does my wife lol.. Anyway, thanks for stoppin by dude, speaking of new baby.. I hope you guys are getting SOME sleep and all doing well :)

Hey Greg! It was nice to bring them outside :) I noticed a few slugs had a superhot leafy salad last night. They won't like what they'll be chowin down on tonight though  Hard to believe we'll all be starting seeds again in 9 months! I took a break but I'm back to seed hunting for next season and made a list of crosses I'd like to try for in my own garden this year haha, good to plan ahead right? I'm hoping the plants can live in the GH for the month of April before I pot them up.. The growth rate should slow a bit with the night time temps which is fine with me.. Thanks for stopping by Greg! Always good to hear from ya. I hope all is well with you my friend. Are your plants outside yet?? I'm gonna have to start PMing you asking about your plants each day now that your regular updates won't be as frequent haha :)

Hey Brandon, I took plant inventory tonight and was pleased to find not one, but two of the Hab cross plants from the seed you sent me survived my early temperature issues. I'll keep you posted throughout the season, and hope you do the same. Thanks! John

That greenhouse got filled quick they continue to look great especially the Hab XXL pubes can't wait to start seeing plants producing pods especially the crosses. Thanks again for the information and help

Brandon...your wife story had me literally falling out of my chair laughing! Mine feels the same way! To bad for her that I had a couple late sprouting Scotch Bonnets that need to get at least a couple sets of true before they go outside. Once I pot them up into 3.5's the lights will be off for the season...Looking really good! This season is really shaping up on every glog I check! All the PACNORWEST growers are already making the move outside!!! What?!?!?!?! Loving it!
Keep us posted on their progress outside!
Shane

Hey, Brandon. Went back and looked at page 13 again -
Is that a triple branching on the hairy XXL, or Am I seeing it wrong?

This is a truly amazing log, way to grow BC.

Loved the video of your little helper. Enjoy it now, when they hit the teen years they become hard to find when the work starts. ;)

Best of luck to you with the rest of your season.

Another awesome update, Brandon! Plants are looking great and lol at the wife story  Now I know what kind of reaction I can expect when I move them from the attic here ;)

Hey Brandon. Everything's looking great for you. Spring might actually happen before August this year! Haven't had time to read your growlog book, but I caught the last few pages. A while back, I brought in the ladybugs to do the job that Neem could not do. They did their job so well, that now all they do is look for a way to escape (the bedroom) because there are no more aphids. I have good amount that have been inactive in the fridge all this time that will die if I don't let them go soon. If you are interested, I could let them go in your greenhouse. Otherwise, they will go free in my backyard. I don't think my plants will make the move the the greenhouse for a few more weeks. Let me know if you want and I will bring them by.

Hey Brandon, just letting you know that we are both at 14, but not for long......

Doesn't count. I have more views.

And I get a handicap because of your frequent video updates.

Good to hear it dude! I'm glad I'm not the only one growing those! Are they also hairy like the picture I posted? I will certainly keep you posted! What else are ya growing this year? I hope everythings going well for you. Good to hear from ya buddy. Thanks for stoppin by.

Yes it did. Ha, I keep having to tell myself to calm down and wait.. I'm itchin to take them out of there and pot em all up into their final homes, lay some drip lines and watch em grow. Still too early though. Should be interesting to see how many crosses I end up with, I have a feeling I might have a good amount of em. You'll have to let me know if your interested in any later this year :) No problem with the help and info, I'm just happy I'm helping people out at all! Hope all is well with you dude.

Hey Shane. lol! glad you liked the story, I had to bring them in the other night one more time due to it dropping to 27 degrees and she was like "Umm... There going back outside tomorrow morning right?" I'm suprised she doesn't have nightmares about these things lol. I too have a few more late flats in the closet but they're not in the way so shes alright with those ones lol. Your right though, It looks like it's gonna be a good year! (fingers crossed) I'm really stoked about it. This has been the warmest spring I've seen in 4 years up here(at this time last year it was snowing lol..) I'm hoping it stays that way! I hope all is good in your neck of the woods my friend. Thanks for stoppin by.

Hey, Brandon. Went back and looked at page 13 again -

Hey Paul, that picture looks decieving, it's the leaves your looking at. I wish I had some triple branchers though! That would make one bushy pod filled plant!

This is a truly amazing log, way to grow BC.

Loved the video of your little helper. Enjoy it now, when they hit the teen years they become hard to find when the work starts. ;)

Hey Patrick. Wow.. Thank you! Coming from you that's quite the compliment :) I remember waiting for updates on your glog last year like a crackhead needing a good fix lol. You were definitely one of my big inspirations to do this. BTW the SB7J's that popped way later than all the others? They've caught up to the biggest plants I have, the growth rate is ridiculous once they get started. The Madballz are doing great too, thanks again! :) Keep an eye out for anything you might like for next season that I'm growing.. I'd love to return the favor and send you a goodie box this summer

BTW I need to shoot you a PM.. I'm interested in what/how you made your iso cages last season.. I wasn't going to isolate anything but I'm now on the otherside of the fence with that whole deal. Hope all is well with you dude.

Thanks meat! Glad you liked the story lol. I love the plants/hobby and I couldn't wait to get them out so I can only imagine how bad that feeling was for her! lol. Hope all is well, good luck moving the plants from the attic

Some sleep....Ha....Ha.....ha...........

My Daughter sleeps for 12 hours straight at night and takes a 3 hour long nap everyday.
Jealous?

Hey Richard! Thanks for stoppin by, I was wondering how you were doing. How are your plants coming along? I know right?! Springs looking pretty good around here lately! I'm so happy about that, Our local produce farmers from work tell us that all their weather gurus are all saying this summer and spring are gonna be scorching. I hope they're right! Thank you very much for the lady bug offer, I would take you up on it but there's nothing for them to eat in my GH so far (thank god) I think they would die.. They sell some right up the street from us incase I need some later in the year.. I stock piled that bonide spray as well incase I see any of those damn things. We do need to try to come up with a time to get together this year though. Are you going to the PNWCF? I think I might be able to stop by friday.. well see. Hope all is well with you my friend. Let me know how things are going for ya when you get a chance!

Thanks everyone for checking this out.
Hope the weeks going well for everyone!
I'm off to work.

Brandon

Appears Brandon is slippin on his post activity. :)

It's okay though.. He's gonna need a head start.
Once the pod pictures start flowing it'll be game over.

Haha..........somebodies worried about the "page" count, and the other one's concerned with the "post" activity...........hmmm
And I just want to see the "pod" photos..........lol
Which makes it more interesting to compare the same and view the different varieties that we all grow.
How's the GH holding up. I see wer'e in for a hard frost here in Chi-town. Hopefully you won't have to bring your plants back in the house for too long. It's a backbreaking task to deal with the large containers especially if they're wet.
Are your SB7J's starting to flower? Mine are getting close, depending on which "Bonnet" Patrick used the flower's have a different color and the amount of petals compared to the "Jonah".I'm just curious which direction the plant has taken.
I'll have to snap some photos this weekend and update my glog
Hope you get some warm weather soon.........and pass it my way

Greg

"Are you going to the PNWCF? I think I might be able to stop by friday.. well see." MIGHT stop by? Dude, it's not like you haven't had enough notice to put in for the time off! Alright, Brandon, I'll lighten up on ya, but I do hope you can make it Saturday also. There's still some camping spots if you wanna camp (tents, etc available to use) and we're counting on you for some fresh pods to sample! AND we have some other shenanigans in the works~~~ ;)

OK, is that enough pressure for you?

But seriously, I'm enjoying your glog also. I hope your weather gurus nail the forecast for this spring. We're due for a good spring.

Hey Greg, always good to hear from you bud! Matt and I have this "Its seriously a joke battle" goin on for top glog between us. Been fun to joke around about, nothing serious though lol.. I'm looking forward to pods as well. I'm really interested to see what is true and what isn't with all the OP sources I got my seeds from. Should be interesting! The GH is holding up good man, I haven't had to cover it with frost cloth for 5 days now, been 45-55 at night lately. I had to bring them in that one night I mentioned that it got down to 28 but that's it! You have some freaking crazy weather in chi-town.. Crazy to see 80days/55degree nights for 2 weeks straight and now your in for a frost!? That's Nuts! Makes me realize how great it is to have consistant weather around here.. Good call on keeping your plants inside. My SB7J's are about to flower as well, full of buds anyway. You do need to keep your glog goin.. I know many look forward to it every week including me. Gives us all inspiration :) Been pretty warm here lately for the PNW.. I'm sending it your way my friend :) Hope the plant sales go well!

Alright Alright! Everybody just needs to calm down  Your gonna hate me for asking this.. but when is it again? I'm going to see if I can get that week off.. I'll plan my second vacation around it so I can show on Saturday. We'll make sure to get a babysitter this year so we can hang out and have some fun :) I know we won't be able to camp(due to my work probably burning down if I'm not there the whole weekend) but I'm pretty sure I can plan to have a good 5 hours set aside that sat if I mention it NOW.. No matter what I'll have pods for ya I'm hoping.. I'd love to sample them with everyone :)

Yes, That is enough pressure. lol. I'll do my best to be there.. please give me the dates again here or PM, I haven't had time to do anything but update my glog and lurk others so I'll really appreciate any info. Thanks for checking out my glog Ann! Thanks ahead for any info you give me :)

 no pressure, Brandon, I know you're busy with work and chiles and your lovely ladies.

It's Sept 7-9 at the Kanasket-Palmer state park, up near Maple Valley (about 10 minutes from chileaddict's house). We'll be there from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. Come when you can. We'll be hanging out Friday evening and then have a pot luck and other stuff Saturday. Megan said the park is pretty kid-friendly.

http://thehotpepper.com/topic/26507-northwest-chilefest-2012-reserve-your-spot-now/

I hope you know I was kidding about enough notice to put in for time off, because Megan started the post in December when the state park reservations opened. We have the picnic shelter reserved for Saturday.

Anyway, I don't want to totally hijack your glog. I've been checking in regularly and watching your progress. Can't wait to see the plants all loaded up with pods! TOO FUN!

Yess yess I know your kidding! I don't take anything too seriously, especially on a internet forum :D Besides, do you think I'd rather be at work than at the PNWCF?! haha. One of our main guys left for the east coast last week so instread of replacing and training 1 guy I got the A-okay to hire 2.. So I can actually leave on the weekends or have someone cover a shift for me once there trained up.. Been 5 years since that's happened, I'd say it's about time I have that freedom eh? Anyway, point is it wasn't looking possible until recently. I'd love to be there and don't see why I cant get it off, I'll know by the end of the day :) I was already planning on taking my 2nd vaca sep5th-15th so that just happens to fall perfectly!

Thanks for watching Ann, I've enjoyed checkin out the TD's and seeing all the crazy cooking going on there, Nice entry btw! I'll PM you the news tonight..

Weekend Update.

I forgot what it was like to actually have some nice spring weather around here.
It's been beautiful lately!

Just a shot of the backyard this morning. Superhots in the background.
