BigCedars SuperHot Grow 2012

Hey Everyone :) 2012 will be my first full year being a member of this great forum. So, I figured why not do a start to finish growlog for the first time. Instead of writing down a journal of germination times, flower times, ferts, soils, plant out dates, etc.. like I have in the past.. I'll be using my growlog instead. There will be extra information that I'm sure the seasoned pros won't need to read but I'm sure anyone new to this hobby will enjoy the extra info I'll be posting. I absolutely love checking up on other members growlogs, It's my daily newspaper! I figured as much entertainment you all have given me this year.. It's time to entertain back. Hope you all enjoy.

One more thing..
Before we get started with the grow porn..
A special thanks goes out to anyone that has helped me out since joining THP. I appreciate it more than you know.

Alright, lets get this party started.

So 12/15 and 12/16 were the only time I had to do this unless I wanted to wait until January because of my work and family xmas parties. I have a greenhouse, which means I can harden off earlier than those who don't. I figured.. Why not start a couple weeks early!? So that's what I did :D

I'm using Hoffmans Seed Starting Mix for the first time this year. I can already tell this stuff is as great as people have said. It's so soft and fluffy, I have an extra bag.. I told my wife I'm puttin a pillow case over it and swappin out my pillow  I prepared everything 12/15

985.jpg

If you use hoffmans.. you have to soak it overnight or knead water into the soil in a plastic tub.. which is what I ended up doing after realizing it wasn't absorbing water from my spray bottle.. So after I did that, I prepped 4 72cell flats with soil, put 4 of each seed variety in the cups, let them sit for 8hours.

1003.jpg

After planting 288 seeds by hand.. I've realized that before this season is over.. I need to invent a faster way to do this.. my god that took way to long. All worth it though :)

1006.jpg

My grow closet.

1008.jpg

I'm using hydrofarm heating mats with hydrofarm heat mat thermostats set at 82 (the one further back in the closet is always warmer..)

1007.jpg

One more thing if you have kids.. My daughter use to love to open the closet door.. Now she likes to shut the door..
I came up with a solution for both the problems.
Bricks so she can't shut the door? Check
Dog leash so she cant open the door? Check.
Let the growing begin.

1010.jpg

The List
I would love to have 3 plants of each.. so I'm starting 4 of each hoping for the best. If I have too many.. Well, I'll find room or give them away :hell:

I will be keeping this posted every week with germination rates.

I'm just doing supers for the first time this year.
I have a good amount of non supers that I'm overwintering. I figure with what I'm growing, If something does cross..I'tll most likely be a superhot cross. And you can't go wrong there!

Brandon

Hey Shane. Thanks buddy. Don't get me wrong, I always wonder what the season would have been like without the setbacks. Next year right? ;)

Thank you for reminding me! I'm already on the watch list I think!
I completely forgot to make a thread about this.. Guess I'll just post it in my glog.

I was in the front yard about a week ago.. I heard a low flying helicopter flying towards the back field by our house.. It came over the treeline and proceeded to fly lower.. lower.. and lower.. It was a dark green helicopter with the sliding door on the side, I'm no expert so I don't know what kind of heli it was.. It was dark green, no labels, numbers, or writing on the side. I could have thrown a rock at the guy hanging out the door. Dressed in dark green as well, I waved at the guy as they slowly flew by our house.. I'm thinking.. really right now?!? I thought it was some hospital heli landing in the field to save someone.. I knock on the kitchen window to get my wifes attention and point to the heli leaving.. maybe a block or 2 away, it circles around right back towards our house. Now I'm thinking.. Okay now this is getting weird.. what the ** is going on here? They circle our yard with the sliding door wide open, 3 guys staring down, some with equipment (cams I'm guessing) and proceed to fly back to where they came from. I'd be amazed if they weren't checking up on us.. There's no doubt in my mind that's what was happening.

I talked to a customer that's friends with a policeman and he told me somebody flying higher had to have said something or a neighbor and they sent in the heli for a closer look before they send in a team. Apparently they do that alot with ops on a "possible" large scale. Either way.. It was crazy to witness in person lol.. I'll be amazed if I don't have a knock on the door this winter. I'll make sure to get a good picture :)

Nobody wants to smoke what I have growing

Hope all is well buddy. I know the season has been treating you well :)
Hi Brandon , just thought id let you know they dont need to be that close to be able to pick up the lighting systems , they can do it from quite a height and distance , iv seen a hell of alot of images from infra-red cameras (Flir) as a fire fighter, and video as well , there used to fight underground peat fires by taking images and seeing what direction the fire is travelling , maybe there looking at the size of those dam scorpions your growing ? and belive me if they were looking for grow systems they wouldnt give you any warning as to what they are looking at , if they had hand held cameras maybe they were facial recognition cameras , they would be like -Yep thats brandon the crazy pod eating chilli head from those youtube vids.

Surveillance technology is pretty awesome and scary at the same time.
Combine that with autonomous drones and we have a real sci-fi thriller
on our hands! Hope they don't get turned against our own citizens in
the too near future, but you can bet they will eventually.

The best defense against government intrusion is to eat lots of hot peppers!
And then poop on their shoes

Hope you are managing to eke out a few more pods before the Fall weather
gets here.

Sounds like local drug task force stuff...more than likely county sheriff's department. Just figure out what organization runs your local task force and invite them to inspect your grow and some dinner. Feed them a heaping helping of stuffed Brains, Primos, Morugas and Douglahs and they won't be back! :flamethrower:

Why would they show up in a chopper to let you know there onto you ? they would do it without anyone knowing untill you got a knock at the door, they want to catch ppl in the act and take whatever there growing so it doesnt get to the streets,Not sure what its like in the states , but in australia they bash the door down at 4 am, when your still asleep.

Its not all super secret squirrel. If that's who they were, they probably just happened upon his backyard in a flyby and were trying to ID what was growing. If they'd been able to ID some of it from the air as dope law enforcement would have shown up pretty quickly. They would have had probable cause and no need for a warrant....OR...

It could have been Paul G doing some recon on your place in preps for his invasion! In that case I would be REAL scared!!! That Paul is a dangerous guy! Have you seen what he does to pods?

Yeh your right , i forgot about the hundreds of plants in his backyard , i was thinking they were looking with flir at his garage setup , lol id say from the air all of his plants in neat rows would look a bit suss.

Yeah if it had been what they were looking for there would have been a ground approach made before he had a dozen plants pulled. A fun little project would be a flag pole with a table top and a sample plate. The when they fly by they can grab a "snack".

Wow, see that stuff freaks me out. I've heard a couple of real horror stories about some law enforcement using way too much force for a pot bust. Hopefully if they do knock it'll be reasonable. I'm not even sure what protection we have if we aren't growing anything illegal. There's got to be a better way to handle that sort of thing than to send a helicopter out. Feels so big brother.

You and me both. Hopefully the swing set and dozens of pink toys in the yard will calm them down if they do come knocking someday lol.. You wou would think there would be, I would have thought that they just flew over the right place at the right time and checked things about but they flew towards us, circled us, flew past us, back around and circled us again, and proceeded to fly back to where they came from.. Which makes me feel like I was the reason to fly in the direction they did. Why else fly over a residential area and turn back around for no reason? Who knows. I wish I had my camera on me that day lol.

Thats not good. I'm more concerned about criminals thinking I'm growing drugs than the police. I've changed from the purple grow lights to white fluorescents now but I still blocked out the window next to the hydro setup just in case someone notices the too bright lights on all the time.

I don't blame you man. I'm lucky enough to live at the end of a dead end street so other than my neighbor, nobody can see much of anything that I do in my front or back yard.. Or house for that matter. Otherwise they would indeed see lights running late at night, and 100s of plants in rows during the day. I think Megahot (If I remember correctly) had the cops show up just from the neighbor seeing a growlight in a grow tent lol.. Some people can be pretty nosey these days.

.

Hey Paul! That's a good movie idea right there! haha.
I'll keep that defense system in mind too lol.

I'm seeing some ripe pods finally, I might actually see more than I thought I would before the big pull indoors.
Woohoo!

Things are looking good in your neck of the woods buddy. Going to try your hand at OWing by any chance?

That's what I thought and have heard from customers and friends since. Apparently they have these fancy facial recognition computers/cams which is what I heard they could have been pointing in my direction along with cameras. Funny stuff. I have been considering contacting them but at the same time, if they do come knocking (hopefully not kicking) it will make for some great pictures and maybe I can peer pressure one of them to eat a pod

Hey Todd. Bashing the door down at 4am while your still asleep? Oh they love doing that around here as well. We even have TV reality shows filming it happening. I'm hoping I never end up being one of those segments. lol.

I'm convinced. It was definitely Paul. Can't believe that didn't cross my mind until you brought it to my attention, thank you Shane! I recently upgraded my alarm system and bought a chile guard lion. Yeah. I said lion. Gotta bring out the big guns if I'm dealing with this guy! I do owe him a beer or 2.. Maybe if I set a 6pack out he'll get distracted... Hmmmm...

Now there's an idea! lol.
I did think about making a "They're only pepper plants, Come over for a free sample! :)" sign that you could see from the air for kicks and giggles.
Although it would be fun to see if they ever come knocking, it'd make for a great kodak moment. :)

I just talked to them. They won't be bothering you again.

Thanks Matt

Your overseas and still hookin me up! ;)

On a serious note, really been enjoying reading your updates here and there, Jamies powder story had me on the floor laughing. Stay safe brother. We all can't wait until you get back.

Brandon you do look like a burner

It's gotta be the beiber hair.

Thanks to everyone that stopped by.

As for a mini update...

I recieved 2 1000watt MH HPS systems in the mail yesterday
I put one together so far.

Initial comments/reactions..
Holy Sh*t these lighting systems aren't f**in around!
I was just starting to get use to HOT5s!

The bulbs are intimidating by themselves!
I think I'll be keeping my farmers tan gong throughout the winter lol.

I also insulated the garage door, weather stripped the outside..
All that's left is to hang the lights and finish the floors.

Should be fully operational in no time.

Good luck getting the grow garage up and running, Brandon!
Hope it works great for you. Looks like another 10 days of grow
weather on the forecast here; haven't seen any forecast beyond that.
We are in the mid 40's at night and 70's during the day, so I think
the pods will keep ripening up for a while longer. I was backpacking
for the last four days, so have a lot of harvest to catch up on. The
orange Red Hab is loaded with ripe pods. Will try to grab a few pics today.

Shane is right

Awesome news Brandon on the garage setup almost fully operational can not wait to see everything up and running.

Thanks Fernando! It's almost all ready to roll now. After turning on the lights, I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping my famers tan this winter

Thanks Paul! It should be an adventure non the less. I'm currently recruiting an army of lady bugs to help me out lol. Your weather sounds about like ours, I'd give it 2 1/2 weeks before frost shows. God willing. Good to hear your getting lots of harvests, I need to hop on over to your glog and check that out :) I hope you had a good time backpacking buddy. Good to hear from you!

Update.

Finally getting some time on my hands to I figured I'd take a few pictures. I had a another outdoor mini harvest this week.. As I said before, I won't be seeing anything major until the big move indoors. I'm guessing this will be the last harvest until then. Good news though, hundred and hundreds of big ol green pods waiting to ripen out there.

Some of these pods are the first to ripen so they are smaller than the big guys waiting to ripen. I'll take em though! :)

Side notes.. that mini chocolate pod on the top right is a NOT madballz 7.. Definitely chocolate. I'm excited to try one of the huge ones on the plant once they ripen.

Also, that single peach pod in the middle came off the one plant I lost the label for, go figure. All of my peach bhut plants are accounted for and aren't the real thing.. Smooth fatalii-like peach pods on those.. So this is a peach superhot cross of some sort. The plant barely had time to put out a few pods, they're douglah shaped, some with spikes. I'll be overwintering that guy, I'm interested to see what that plant can really do in the garage/next year...

Have a great weekend everyone :)

Great pod pics Brandon. The dice in the pics was a perfect idea. I have quite a few small pods too. They can really light you up just like the big boys. :hell:

Great pics! That "7 Orange" - is that a medium heat? Like below habanero, but good flavor? It just looks very similar to something I grew that was supposed to be scotch bonnets, but ended up being those and grew about a million of them per plant. Just wondering if its the same thing and what that pepper really is.

Sadly, this is more true than most would think. Dont go to the fema camps.

Brandon, empty your message box and send me your addy, bud!

I like the harvest photos, they're not dicey at all. Cool shot of the ballasts with the light hood in the reflection. It will be interesting to see some full grown plants under those 1000w'ers......a jungle waiting to happen.
