Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)
Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.. lol. Keep it drama-free.
I, and many others would really appreciate this thread to stay that way.

Now lets get to growing!

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

How's it going for everyone else?

lock I was wondering where you got your seeds from? I have to say the only plants that should be in this thread are ones where we know the seeds came from Pepperbutt or PepperJoe. Are there any other sources that sell these yet?

I got a packet from PepperJoe and have started them. I will be contributing to this thread. I am as curious as everybody else about this pepper.

he mentioned he got his seeds from pepperjoe a few posts above :)

Yep I got mine from pepperjoes, I'm hoping someone gets some pods that look like the pictures soon.

Here is what I pulled of the plant today.

Yes they do, the other 2 were a little more red. I did leave them on the plant a couple days after they changed colors these I picked right away to mail off.

? thats reapers? ,lol. i dont care how much varation in pods. these need to start looking like the promo pics!

Among those who are growing the hp22b they need to been looking at/for consistency. Which means even if there was a difference between the 7 pot primo and the hp22b, the next question will be does the hb22b have an acceptable level of consistency; in terms of pod/plant characteristics?
It is a very challenging/fun task to plant and compare verities when people have different views about the same variety
In this case my slogan is “when in doubt, just plant” plant and try it yourself and report results. In other words, us as seeds/plant/pods suppliers MUST always remain objective, reliable, and realistic and allow our customers and community to judge and reflect on our items. In my case if I claim a pepper to be the tastiest pepper and when people eat it and say it taste like dirt I can’t keep fooling myself saying no it is the tastiest one. Customers are the jury, and their views what make difference. So if all/most growers say “hey” there is no difference between the hp22b and the 7 pot primo.. me as supplier must accept and respect their views and results ; not just tell them “you all don’t know what you talking about” the hp22b has another characteristics that you all don’t know, see, or realize it is the “Holy ghost in the DNA” . in my views DON’T ask me as a customer what I think of your product and when I speak up my mind you don’t like it because I was against your “wish/hope”
The same applies to opposite/other side of the story… if customers repost that there is an obvious, remarkable, measurable differences between the hp22b and the 7 pod primo we must accept the idea that they are two different varieties. Customers may say yes they are two different varieties, but guess what we found the 7 pot primo Hotter than the hp22b.. So either way the dispute/disagreement will be settled at the most by the binging of next season.
This is a very constructive topic and helps enrich our pepper community and culture. thank you Big Cedar

Man those look orange...

And a little 'Habby' looking.
Yes they do, the other 2 were a little more red.

Nothing against anything here you posted, but...

To some that are just looking at just those pictures and nor reading into it more maybe getting the impression or illusion that Reapers are not even red. We've seen yellow ones and now orange. But yet NO Red Reapers pics. Maybe just not 'ripened reapers.

But then again, if if those pics above of thtose pods were red and ripened, they'd look more like Red Savina Habbies.

Surely someone will come up with a Red Reaper and post that.

Even with the pic above from Tex16. At first glance...oh no, another 'Yellow Reaper'.

Where's the Red Reapers ?

A little off topic here, but there is a pic of a Reaper over on PB's FB page that someone posted of one of their Reapers they are growing. That one does look true to shape and form.

I feel the same way sicman I gave away a couple really nice 7 pots and used a lot of quality nutrients to grow this plant.
Why dont you forward pepper joe the photos ? he was the seed murchant that sold you the seeds, your only asking the question , im sure he can try and answer it for you .

lock you started the Reaper that your posting pod pics of on the 29th of August correct? Your first post was Sep 2 and you said you planted them the previous Wednesday, Aug 29th. What growing medium did grow this plant in? I've had someone suggest that I wasn't the brightest individual for believing this plant is an actual Carolina Reapers because it was grown to produce pods in such a short time, 124 days to the end of December. That is pretty quick for a superhot. Now I've always grown in pots with different mixes, never with any type of hydro.

So it would stand to reason that the person who suggested that to you is also suggesting that the rest of us who believe Lock are also not so bright. It would also stand to reason that this person is suggesting that Lock is lying, posting progress of a non-Reaper plant.

I am beginning to see the decline of this thread. Possibly it will meet the fate of the rest of the HP22B threads. Ironically, that would be "Lock"ed. ;)

Yeah I started the seeds around the end of August, you can check my glog I kept better updates in there and had other supers produce just as fast if not faster. I'm not trying to deceive anyone, I got the seeds from PepperJoe started them right away and kept a pretty good record of its progress.

I grew these in readygro coco coir with some mykos mycorrihizal and they only got feed Sensi Grow/Bloom.

Edit: lol at "lock"ed

Yeah I suppose you could look at it like that. My intent wasn't to start any problems or get this thread headed in a direction that would cause it's termination. I have no idea why the person who suggested this didn't come here and ask lock himself. Lock please understand I'm not questioning your integrity, I'm just attempting to get the facts.
