Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)
Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.. lol. Keep it drama-free.
I, and many others would really appreciate this thread to stay that way.

Now lets get to growing!

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

How's it going for everyone else?

Damn these primos look cool, anyone have any seeds to spare/trade? I wouldn't mind putting some of these in my garden this year, lol.

Ok, I sowed 14 reapers on the 14th (Valentines day afternoon) and one hook is starting to break soil on the evening of the 19th!
That is the fastest yet for me on reapers....the first round of them took weeks for one to hook, and only 50% of the packet germinated, the last one took 3 months....
Now I am hoping the other 13 are going to jump out of the ground quickly too!
That would be awesome....

Ok, of the 14 more I sowed on valentines day, one hook on the 19th, and woke up this morning to 3 more!
So 4/14 in the first 7 days :) Much better/quicker than my first sowing so far.
Now the other 10 need to het inspired by their bretheren an hook too :)

[sub]About how long does it take before the flower buds start to open, from the time they appear?[/sub]
[sub]I think I am getting close to a week since the plant forked and they appeared.[/sub]

I started my carolina reapers on 1/22/2013 and have 11/12 germanated
one of them as 3 leaves instead of the 2 that come out of the seed
have never seen this always was two willm the one with 3 be different than the others or having 3 leaves does not matter

It is pretty common. I see it more in tomatoes than my peppers but the extra cotelydon hasn't seemed to impact my plants one way or the other. In theory it means there is more food for the plant to absorb off the bat but I haven't noticed any difference in growth habits or rates with the extra.
