Carolina Reaper (HP22B) Community Grow

A few members including myself are growing seeds for this variety ASAP. I and a few others here on THP thought it would be fun to have a "community glog" strictly for this variety, a fun thread about the HP22B and growing this pepper for the first time.

I think we should start a community glog like this anytime there is a new pepper with alot of attention and alot of people growing it, possible world record holder or not. It would be fun, and this should be fun! That's why we all love this hobby is it not?

Therefore, this will be a drama-free, controversy-free, fun glog for all of us growers and others to enjoy. If you grow, please chime in. If you're growing this variety, please post pictures and chime in about your observations.

Again.. This thread is ment to be fun and informative, but mostly fun :)
Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.. lol. Keep it drama-free.
I, and many others would really appreciate this thread to stay that way.

Now lets get to growing!

I went with the paper towel method for this guy just like I have with all my mid-season starts. It is far from my favorite way to germinate seeds but I'm in no hurry this time of year which is why I went this route. I've had the seeds in the paper towel for about a week now on top of my HOT5 lighting closet. The seeds should be showing root tips soon, then they will be visiting some real soil :D

How's it going for everyone else?

First Reaper Pods!

My bigger plant still has none.  I've got a scrawny stick one that fell over and dried out for a few days, but now its coming back.  On an interesting note, I found one today I didn't even know I had.

That is an odd shaped pod, not very Reaper like. Even my baby pods looks like Reapers, my fingers are crossed they grow true.

Crossing my fingers I didn't mislabel it!

Mine are coming in very smooth also

Hopefully they grow true.  I'm more concerned with flavor and heat than shape, but it would be nice for them to get wicked looking.  My big plant is now setting pods so we'll see how those turn out.  I'll post a side by side when they're big enough.  I have 4 Reaper plants to compare against each other, so we'll see.

nice pods Chris.. just wondering and not stirring the pot of those that have PODS... whether be accurate shapes or not.. can you please respond with where you got the seeds from??

thanks..

PepperJoe - You like how it is sunny in the picture but wet? No I didn't spray, we just had a major thunderstorm for 10 minutes then straight to sun hahahah.

Just checked my other plant with pods and the first Reaper pod has a nice little stinger on it.  So either the pod shape stability is inconsistent from plant to plant, or I some how switched a hab for a reaper.  I'm pretty sure I kept good track of my Reapers, though.  I'll post a pic tomorrow.
My bhuts have a similar deal going.  Some are rounded and others are pointy.  Distinctively pointy.

The reaper is obviously not stable. ...I'm saving seed to the one with the stinger and the one that looks like a bhut.

Here is a comparison of my two producing plants right now:

Same seed pack.

I just read an article that the Reapers come from Jolokias and "Sweet Habs".  Do either of those have stingers?  I may be wrong, but I thought that came from Trinidad scorps.
