CMPMAN1974 - 2012 Grow Log - Started 2/26/12

No light box set-up Patrick. I play around with diffused lighting on close-up shots with a flash unit set-up. The shutter speed is high enough on the camera where hand shaking issues can be managed to a degree. Of course, it always helps to keep shutter speed high, but not always possible.

White balance is the toughest aspect of photography for me as I'm shooting under weird combination fluorescent/incandescent lighting. It's a nightmare. I continue to try to learn, but I need to get better on that side.

Do you have a light box set up? Wish I still had steady hands. For close up stills I should use Mr Small Tripod.

A buddy of mine built himself a small lightbox for taking pics of tarantulas. I believe it was mostly made of cardboard and white printing paper. Real simple and real cheap. If you're intereted in it let me know and I'll see if I can get more info for you. It's much easier to get good pics when you have total control of light.

I have made a few using this guide but finally bought one that I use now in my GLOS for peppers and insects.

How do you like the Pimenta Tiger taste so far? Any hint of Bhut-like flavor?

The pepper I have that seems to be a cross between the 7 Pot Brown Bonnet and the Pimenta Tiger doesn't have any trace of the Bhut flavor.

One of the most beautiful super hots I have ever grown. The coloring is phenomenal on this! I finally got it producing well this year. Last year, I had ONE pod on my plant and saved seed.

Good things come when you wait, right? The coloring seems nicer yet this season.

The question everyone should ask themselves is what kind of CRAZY SOB would grow endless street bird varieties from Africa and other regions? lol. It's an endless job picking these and the fun hasn't even started yet. Fortunately, I truly love eating them in recipes for short heat burst. The long drawn out variety names of street vendors is kind of amusing, but it's the only IDs I got from my friend who lives in S. Africa.

The purple / red Pimenta Tiger had a strong burst of heat. I was taken off guard. It exploded. It didn't last as long as traditional super hots, but it has a nice taste/flavor to go along with the beauty. I didn't feel Bhut-like flavor is the best description. I'm not super good at describing flavor tones like some reviewers here though.

Thanks for the tiger description. I've been so curious about these, I went ahead and crossed a Neyde and Bhut myself early in the season. I now have seedlings growing which will of course be overwintered...

Just one for tonight.

I have several plants of this one and there are lots of different phenotypes. One thing they have in common though is they are giant producers. My plants are leaning over due to all the pods on them. Pretty cool! This is NOT Yellow Scorpion CARDI.

I am SO excited I got one plant that made true Caramel Bhut Jolokias!! I put 10 in the ground...1 did it! I may have a 2nd based on pod characteristics, but none ripe yet. The color of these are stunning. You really need to see all three colors lined up like I did to get a visual on where they fall in the spectrum.

Oh, the other picture is for you Smokemaster!

I promised. First ripe pod of it. Very cool looking!!

That's awesome man, glad at least one made it. Looks like 3 of my original 5 are growing true. Here's a shot with 5 different bhuts. Caramels on the left, color definatly stands out!
