I can drink like one smoked beer if I am bbqing/smoking something. Like Rogue's Smoked Porter. Other than that and a rare couple others, I have not had many I like much.
I mentioned the Lava previously in this thread. I haven't heard of Rogue's Smoked Porter... are you sure you don't mean Stone Smoked Porter? I get them confused myself sometimes. I like Stone Smoked Porter, but it's hard to detect any smoke so the name is deceiving. Lava, on the other hand, is like sticking your face in the exhaust of your smoker while it works it's magic on a pork shoulder. I don't reach for a smoke beer very often but it's the smokiest I've ever had by a long shot.
Tonights treat. Shipped from CA since they don't sell it here. Seems lacking in vanilla (at least compared to Stone's Smoked Porter with Vanilla Bean) but overall a tasty porter. I support their decision to make a 10% abv imperial porter. So far we've tried 3 beers from Knee Deep Brewing, and for a relatively new brewery they're doing a good job.
Second treat (2 and a half I guess... I poured most of the Extra Gold down the drain) This is pretty good stuff. Again I'm not a big IPA fan but it's like the 12th highest rated IPA on ratebeer, which is kind of cool since it's local for me.
This one was "okay" but I'd take a Samuel Smith's Chocolate Stout or Rogue Chocolate Stout instead any day.
This one was pretty tasty. Might be joining the ranks of Stone's Enjoy By IPA and Lagunita's Lagunitas Sucks but it's kind of pricey. Oskar Blue's doesn't make any bad beers as far as I can tell.
I didn't detect any maple at all, but my palette might be shot. I did however detect lots of dark malt and a not very well hidden alcohol. Not for me I guess
So I had trouble posting last night and I had a couple of treats to post but after tonight's treat they're both pretty forgettable. Just got a box of beer from my wife's friend in Indiana and finally get to try a couple of beers I've been wanting to try for quite a while. She sent a six pack each of Founder's Breakfast Stout and Founder's Porter (along with some other stuff) and tonight's first treat is delicious. I highly recommend this if you like porters. Super happy I still have 5 more to go in the fridge. A big thumbs up to my wife for thinking of me in her latest beer swap since stouts and porters aren't really her idea of a good beer.
Tonight's second treat. Holy hell what a delicious stout. Coffee overdose. This combined with the previous beer are taking me to a happy place. Too bad they don't sell this within 500 miles of here.
I support Ketel One & Patron but I prefer the anejo. I didn't love the Hoptimum and haven't had the Victory since they aren't distributed here. I do have one Victory to try but it's a pale ale.
Tonight's 3rd treat:
IPA's aren't really my thing but this is possibly one of my favorites along with Lagunita's Sucks, Stone Enjoy By, and Ballast Point Sculpin IPA. Good stuff. Founders apparently knows how to brew good beer.
KBS party was good. I got a ten ounce draft and a glass with my ticket. I also won a bottle. I drank an All Day IPA, an Oatmeal Stout on Nitro, a Double Trouble, a sample of Doom, all by Founders, and a new beer by Weyerbacher that I can't recall the name.
