craft beer

Yes I read the "Victory" and got all excited thinking about Victory at Sea Imperial Porter from an entirely different brewer in a different state.  Thought I deleted it before anyone saw.   I still vote for drinking it warmer rather than colder.  Do the test and see.  Often a dark beer won't taste as good ice cold as it does a little warmer.  I think it's way past beer thirty for me.  Trying to decide between Stone Enjoy By 08.02.13 or Stone Ruinten.
thanks good info

Had this tonight.  I know it's not a craft beer but it didn't suck nearly as much as I expected and I suspect we've all had our fair share of shitty lagers (here's looking at you Anheiser/Miller/Coors):

Then I had one of these.  It's such a tasty IPA, and that's something I never thought I would say about any IPA a year ago:

Night cap was a delicious beer float made with vanilla ice cream and Santa Fe Brewing's Imperial Java Stout:

in regard to the first one the Yuengling you should try there premium Lager its much better

The Yuengling was part of a beer swap.  It's not sold here and the choice wasn't up to us but after trying it and reading about some of their other beers I'd try the premium given the chance.  The porter too.

it is made near, and its ok but tends to give a headache, the Porter is quite good if you get a chance try it, its quite good for the price too as porters go

there Bock was ok but there Premium Lager is good they also have a Black and Tan i have never had but am told by many its very good
if you like lager there is another company called Staub out of St Marys PA that makes beer with no preservatives its quite good for what it is, if you get as chance try it too

thanks your friend Joe

All Yuenglings are awesome.  Their Porter is one of my favorites and Black and Tan is great as well.  My everyday go to is the regular lager number one because it is so much better than everything at its price point but also because I can get tallboys for a buck a piece.  AND 100% American!

in 100 percent agreement
i can get 24 oz for 2 bucks

they market there product very well

i think it was 2 years ago they beat Bud in shear sales +1 to Yuengling

thanks your friend Joe

oh also im drinking my second VICTORY STORM KING IMPERIAL STOUT
its good however a bit too boozy for my taste, it has wonderful stout flavor but the alcohol is a bit of a deal breaker, i dont get it?? STONES IMPERIAL RUSSIAN WAS 10.1  WHICH PUTS IT HIGHER THAN THIS AND IT WAS NOT AS BOOZY AND THUS ENJOYED IT MORE??
smells very yummy
taste chocolate and coffee like
malt is great
touch of hops at the start and has a bitter over tone at the back of the throat (tolerable)
well I ADMIT I LIKE THE STONE STOUT BETTER!! . the Victory product is more expensive that Guinness AND IS NOT GOING TO GET ME TO BUY IT AGAIN!
$15.99 A 6 !!
verdict its OK not great just ok, if they would just reduce the alcohol content im sure this brew would shine

thanks your friend joe

Lagers aren't really my thing.  I prefer stouts and porters, and sometimes an IPA or red ale.  Both the Yuengling and the Anchor California Lager are the first lagers I've had in a long time (well, I had an Extra Gold Lager as a joke a while back but poured most of it).  Both were pretty good for what they are but I'll stick to darker beers usually, even in the summer.  Since I only had one, headache potential was a non issue.  I'm assuming Yuengling is "cheap" beer, so if I'm correct I'd say the lager was really good especially if I was given the choice between that and some awful corn adjunct lager/pilsner in the same price range. I remember as a teenager/young adult that Bud didn't get us any drunker than say Black Label or Falstaff or Meister Brau, but it sure didn't make me feel as shitty the next day either.  If Yuengling is in indeed in the cheap beer category I guess a headache should be expected but at least it tastes better than any other brand mentioned above.

having a bit of fun today i decided to finally try a few craft brews here go's

went to Wegmans and got a mixed 6 of goodies
so far i have had

CARLBURGS ELEPHANT . (DIDNT LIKE IT)

BRECKENRIDGE DARK OATMEAL STOUT (VERY GOOD) has a Espresso and chocolate note to it i love>>try it!!

LEFT HAND MILK STOUT (VERY GOOD) very similar however the above is better

im drinking at the moment OLD FORGE CELESTIAL BLONDE ALE its ok nothing fantastic, but it really taste alot like Hoegarten without the spice, i wasn't too fond of Hoegarten overall not a bad brew if your going to compare it to other crap that's out there, they are still head and shoulders above others >> i say this because everyone's taste is different
i have 2 more

but this is to be continued LOL

OK im back again

im about to take my first sip of Breckenridge Vanilla porter
here goes

very smooth almost too smooth, its hard to get any of the porter attribute from it so subtle in its flavor it hard to get a real feel for it
except that its got a malty forward taste but goes away very quickly, its not a bad brew but its just not too good either

you catch a little Vanilla at the end of each sip but it goes away fast

not really worth the money i spent, i suppose someone might like it and you can do much worse
as i said before everyone's taste is different

thanks your friend Joe

Hey Joe... if you're in the Wilkes-Barre area, visit the Breaker Brewing Company in WB township.  They've been brewing out of a garage in Pittston for a few years and they just purchased a decommissioned Catholic church and school for brewing, tasting, and eventually serving in-house.  Just stopped by today and tried a few.  Their IPA is the best I've ever had... hands-down.  They had about 6 beers available for tasting and each was excellent.  Here's their link:

thanks will keep in mind \

last one for the evening  was a common one GUINNESS DRAUGHT  IN A 16  oz nitro can

good stuff

Not to nitpick Joe, but surely you meant to say Left Hand Milk Stout was better than the Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout?!  I've only had the Vanilla Porter and was completely underwhelmed.  Basically it kinda sucked so bad it's hard to imagine Breckenridge brewing anything worth a shit.  Convince me to try the Oatmeal Stout.  Tell me it's better than Stone and a day at the beach and a pepper plant with 800000 pods on it combined.

no not nitpicking, everyone's entitled there option as i am, actually i did like the Breckenridge a little better, i can see my taste is different than yours and im ok with that,i do however stand by my conviction, it was not great so in fact i do agree with you and i would not buy it again
i liked SMUTTYNOSE ROBUST PORTER  much better and am going back to that, i ended up with what i got on a recommendation from a guy at the store because they where out of Smuttynose

no my friend im not upset with you replv at all and you are entirely entitled to

thanks your friend Joe

Given the choice between Left Hand Milk Stout and Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout I have to encourage you to try the Nitro version (assuming you had the "regular" version").  I don't love their milk stout, but I do enjoy the nitro charged version.  It's just creamier and tastier.

I just didn't like the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter at all.  It seemed weak and watery and offered me no porter or vanilla.  I felt kind of ripped off.  I think we agree on that, and I was just so put off by the Vanilla Porter it was hard to comprehend you saying the Oatmeal Stout they make was actually good but there are other beers I like that are like the only beer out of 10 or 15 I'll drink from certain brewers so I should probably try it and not write off Breckenridge over the one beer I tried.

Just like many other beers mentioned here, Smuttynose isn't available in NM.  I'm working on having some shipped to me.  I've heard nothing bad about it and it's on my "bucket list" for sure.

I realize opinions can differ and I wasn't blasting you for yours.  Just had a hard day replacing most parts of my brake system due to contamination/swollen seals everywhere and was surprised to hear someone say a Breckenridge is okay.  Whatever beer you like is the best beer for you which is why I try as many as I can.  I've found some I love but a lot more of them are in the "will not buy again" category for sure. I'm sipping (well, guzzling) a Stone Smoked Porter right now and I know many who would say it's not very good but after trying hundreds of beers it's one that never disappoints me when I pop one open.

So in conclusion can I assume the Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout isn't better than a Stone Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout or a day at the beach or a pepper plant with 800000 pods on it? :P

thanks if i can find it in nitro around here, i have it in bottles

i dont have a opinion on oatmeal or milk stout yet  because those were my very first one and am not going to draw a conclusion f just upon them

i i did not like the Vanilla porter at all it had very little taste, try Smuttynose Robust Porter when you can find it, its Wonderful!!
im writing Breckenridge off too im going to try any other but them also, i will however try Left Hand again and a few of there others i have a buddy that likes there stuff!!

no its not better than stones stuff i was far more impressed with there stuff especially the IMPERIAL RUSSIAN STOUT

a day at the beach is nice but i want a fishing rod in my hands

a plant with that may pods consider the possibility there :woohoo:

thanks your friend Joe

Had this last night (or the night before...don't remember).  It was good but a little too much hops for my taste.  IPAs aren't my favorite but it's a solid brew for sure:

Currently I'm drinking this:

I didn't realize it was a "Scottish Porter" when I picked it up but it was in the mixed six pack cooler so I gave it a shot.  I don't love scottish ale, and this one does start out with that scottish ale (aka WHISKEY) flavor up front but finishes with a nice bitter malty smokey porter.  Strange but not bad at all.  I picked up one of their stouts too so I might try that later and suspect I might like it.

By "nitro" I mean in bottles.  They have the "regular" Milk Stout with the purple'ish label, and then the nitro version which has a black label.  To me the nitro just tastes better.  But if you ever see it on a nitro tap somewhere bottoms up!  I don't see good beer on tap here in the middle of nowhere too often.  Dale's Pale Ale on tap got me excited.  Usually some crap like Foster's is the "exotic" beer available on tap.

I've tried several Left Hand brews (thanks to the "variety pack" they sell) and can't say they're bad but I really am not the one to judge pilsners and pale ales since they're not my favorite kind of beer.  Supposedly their porter is really good (SmokeJumper) but I haven't seen it here anywhere.
