If you liked the Thirsty Dog, try their Siberian Nights
yeah my friend said it was really good but it wasn't available in the cooler for a mixed six,he knows i love stouts and porters best im going to have to get some soon!!
could not get Smuttynose robust porter again without paying an arm and a leg for it, but next time im just going to break down and just do it!!!!!!!!

just tried Brewer Art "Ozzy" ----- and its a great belgian style but !!!    ___ as i said i do like Belgian beers but i think its because im on a stout and porter kick at the moment so im going to have to revisit it at a later date

also tried
ABITA PURPLE HAZE way too sour for my taste

thanks your friend Joe

OK OK I ADMIT IT!!

I'm drinking a a little more than i usually do but i was curious i had a little more money this week which doesn't happen much an i was curious

i just had a Paulaner "Salvator"double bock and i liked it!! quite alot!!

thanks your friend Joe

OK i found another that i running neck and neck

its as good AS smuttynose robust porter

Lancaster brewing   milk stout

The thing about Anchor is they're pretty much the oldest craft brewery in the US, about 100 years older than their competition.  I find their steam beer quite drinkable but I agree it's not a particularly robust beer.  You might like Anchor Porter or Anchor Breckle Brown better.  Both are solid but after a 100 year monopoly of sorts are kind of buried in a sea of craft beer now.

Well sir, I will beg to differ with you.  Yeungling has only become a macro brewer in the past thirty years or so.  And IT is the oldest brewery in the country.

Yes Yeungling is older.  Anchor only goes back to 1876 I think.  I can't get Yeungling here, so the only one I've tried was a lager which isn't my favorite kind of beer by a long shot but it was easy enough to finish and at the time I posted about it here others commented on their porter and stout(?) as being pretty good especially for the price.

So they have Anchor beat by 50 years but I'm not familiar with them due to lack of distribution here.  Having said that, it's hard to imagine them making a better porter than Anchor.

the only one i had was the DOGFISH HEAD 90 MIN and im not a IPA man but thought it was good

thanks your friend Joe

yup got another fav
PAULANER "SALVATOR" DOUBLE BOCK
decided to try this one over the week end had one Saturday and and liked it but i had a few others before so i didn't get a good feel for it until tonight, i had off tonight and i was fishing today with the wife and most of you know how good a beer or two taste after a fishing trip, caught nothing but sunfish ,bluegill, and pumkinseeds all day but they where willing little fighters, brought them all home and fertilized my plants with them LOL
ok back to the BEER!!
it has a nice sweet nose but not to sweet of a taste, great bock flavor that one should expect from a German beer, no bitterness but a wonderful malty flavor i so enjoy
mouth feel is kinda light and has a light dark chocolate finish
i can sense just a small amount of alcohol taste and at the back of my throat but its very tolerable because all the other nuances come into play to balance it out
could drink a few of these with no trouble but at 7.9 percent ABV it would knock me on my butt, and i dont want that(im a bit of a lightweight)

i highly recommend this one to anyone who likes brews in this genre and i put this one up near the top of favorites list
thanks your friend Joe

Tried this tonight.  Pretty good but I don't get much of the maple.  Maybe a little pecan in there.   At 13% not a great session beer.  :drunk:
Big beer. Big picture.

Tried another local brew tonight.  Weird that ratebeer gives it a shitty score and the comments make it sound over carbonated, sour, and basically awful but the last comment was 3 years ago so I'm thinking the recipe has changed because while I don't find it magically delicious I do find it easy to drink.

im kicking back with a  SMUTTYNOSE ROBUST PORT, i decided to pick up a case this time which is something i seldom do,im going on vacation in about a month from now and im planning on taking a few of these with me

if you guys and gal like porter try this one, it defiantly lives up to the "ROBUST" part but doesn't have the high alcohol content of other stouts and porters in this genre and the same wonderful taste too, no sacrificing anything
strong roasted barley malt flavor

not too heavy

thanks your friend Joe
