Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

Time for the 2014 start...

Many of these plants were made possible by the generous people of the THP sending me seeds and pods Thanks!

I'm looking forward to warmer weather and dirt day!

I have a bunch of seeds started, and plants at all the stages.

Here's the grow bench, a T8 x4 on top and T5 x4 on the bottom, as you can see it's loaded.

I like starting the seeds in Jiffy Pellets, as soon as they stand up I trim the mesh off and plant them 1/2" proud in a pot, or in this case a cup.

A few plants living under the T5, I'm super impressed with this light!

Those pics are a great object lesson Scott... great  job, and thanks for sharing. :)
Hi Rick,

The 'deprived' area got a full dose of Hasta Gro today. I mixed 35 gals @80% and flooded. Will do it again next watering @50% and go from there.

Looking good. Taking notes over here. Your garden is looking very happy. Going to grow in ground for sure next year. Got all summer to make compost. This weekend went by way to fast. Thanks for the update.
Thanks Chuck!

Now PaulG has the container thing down; me, I'm a dirt guy. But also trying to make a few do well in containers, hard to do once it's hot, but 20 gal bags work OK. Until you try and move one ;)

I have 4 truck loads of leaves composting with cow manure for the fall till, plus the regular compost pile that kitchen scraps go in. Good on you for composting, it really pays off.

Yes the weekends always go quick. Especially when ones always behind ;)

Wow, man!!  Just damned awesome.  Really, too much..too much...too much.  I've never seen a Serrano plant in need of a tomato basket.  Now I believe that everything really is bigger in Tejas!!  So, what is your nute regimen, man!
Thanks Jim!

Well I constantly add to the soil, mulch, manure and plant cover crops. I shoot for two, tilling in the first. It really helps keep the nutes up top, otherwise they leach down low. I added homemade biochar to help lock in the nutes as well.

During the season I supplement with seaweed extract and Hasta Gro 6-12-6. I start out with 50% mix, and give each plant a 1,2,3 count when pouring from the watering can. I do this as often as they appear to need it. So far no plants are really dark, they just grow. I also use molasses in the mix every third feeding.

Wow Scott. I was out of town for the weekend and had three pages of updates to catch up on.

Plants look great, pods look great, food looks great.
Thanks Jeff!

Hoping things just get better from here!

Wow, Scott. Lot's of pods forming and the plants are really getting big. Love the Colima's and those are just the first pods :D
Thanks Stefan!

They made some great poppers. Looks like I may squeak by and get a decent harvest before the heat sets in. So far no temps above 90° and the mornings have been cooler. The 7 day looks to be the same 89° as the highs ;)

I'm liking global cooling! :D

Choo choo, i'm hoppin on the nute crankin train as well.
That last plant does look good.
Thanks sir!

This place years, and years ago was a peanut, and then a watermelon farm. They flat played out the sand soil. So I've been hard at getting it where I want to. The supplement I use works really well to help carry things through.

pod porn in may?? looks great... man.. wish i had a setup like yours!
Thanks Denniz!

I'm thinking the early start should pay off. I will at least get enough pods to hold me until a fall crop if necessary.

I watered today, I think I pushed the limit on the nutes with the better looking plants. They should be fine. I did however hit the weaker looking gals again, I say poop or get off the pot! They are looking a little better though.

Not much else going on.

We have started getting a few strawberries, which is nice. These of course have already been consumed ;)

I'm hoping we didn't pick the peaches too early. It's a rare deal to beat the birds to edible peaches around here.

A meager pepper harvest, but any is good!

A meager harvest? That jal(?) looks wonderful. Love the mean corking on the end and the deep red color. Bet the taste is great too.

Interesting nute regime. I've been really sparing this year, as I think I cranked the nitrogen up too high last year and caused some pod drop. This year all I've used is tomato tone (light mix of bone, blood meals and some mykos if I'm not mistaken), and I hit them with fish fertilizer twice in April. Thinking about doing another round of fish fertilizer on the slow growers and leaving the rest be.

You doing any kind of pruning, or are you gals naturally so blemish free?

Nice fresh pods. I have been eating a Hab a day at lunch from super market. There not as good as the garden fresh but will have to do. Thanks for the update.

Nice lookin' pods, Scott!
