Devv's 2014- Stick a fork in me, I'm done....

Time for the 2014 start...

Many of these plants were made possible by the generous people of the THP sending me seeds and pods Thanks!

I'm looking forward to warmer weather and dirt day!

I have a bunch of seeds started, and plants at all the stages.

Here's the grow bench, a T8 x4 on top and T5 x4 on the bottom, as you can see it's loaded.

I like starting the seeds in Jiffy Pellets, as soon as they stand up I trim the mesh off and plant them 1/2" proud in a pot, or in this case a cup.

A few plants living under the T5, I'm super impressed with this light!

A meager harvest? That jal(?) looks wonderful. Love the mean corking on the end and the deep red color. Bet the taste is great too.

Interesting nute regime. I've been really sparing this year, as I think I cranked the nitrogen up too high last year and caused some pod drop. This year all I've used is tomato tone (light mix of bone, blood meals and some mykos if I'm not mistaken), and I hit them with fish fertilizer twice in April. Thinking about doing another round of fish fertilizer on the slow growers and leaving the rest be.

You doing any kind of pruning, or are you gals naturally so blemish free?
Thanks Adam!

That larger one is a Kurt.

I've been a little heavy handed with the nutes because they started off so weak. I'm thinking the soil I added had no nutes in it and then I added the RCW. They have a nice color now and I intend to just feed the ones that look like they need it now. The stuff I use is 6-12-6 and I use a weak solution, so I know I'm not hitting them with too much N.

I don't bother to prune; I have a round 130 plants so that would mean more work. ;)

Nice pod porn Scott... is the big guy on the right one of the Kurts?
Thanks Rick!

Yes that be a Kurt! That ones 5"s shoulder to tail. Only the second to turn red. I'm sure they will produce some larger ones later on.

Nice fresh pods. I have been eating a Hab a day at lunch from super market. There not as good as the garden fresh but will have to do. Thanks for the update.
Thanks Chuck!

I brought 5 into work today, everyone really liked the Aji Lemon. They've never tasted a pepper like that before. The hottest was the Bhut, and next the hab looking Scotch Bonnet. I'm hoping the MoA's take on a more true look as they progress. Not sure what the other two are ;)

mmmmm poddage....all is looking well my friend.  I can taste those strawberries.
Thanks Jeff!

I believe you have quite a bit of Strawberries growing. This is year two, and I'm moving them to the raised beds this fall. The first came out like the first peppers, small and misshapen.

Yum, peaches and pods. Almost makes me want to move south.
Living this far south has it pluses and minuses. For me more pluses. However it did take me a while to acclimate ;)

Heck yeah, peaches!

Peach salsa on a corn chip.
I'm stoked we got to pick them before the birds got to them, that's the norm. Those are from a bare root I planted last Feb., which is surprising. Can't hardly buy good peaches anymore, which is why I have 14 trees :shh:

Wow, what happend there, something made love with an Jalapeno or what? :)
Hah!

Holy crap that's a big Jalapeno!

That's a Kurt (OK have to look the rest up) Kurtovska Kapija. Rick sent me the seeds. Freezing them and saving them for a sauce ;)

maximumcapsicum said:
Nice! How's the taste on the Kurt?
I haven't tasted one yet. Rick advises to make a sauce, so we're saving them until we have enough.

Well as usual I am several dimes late any mucho dollars short Scotty Mcgee but must repeat what the others have said . Just top notch garden that has me steaming with jealousy. One day when my kids are in college and my dogs have eased up on destroying anything that is green I hope to have an inground plot much like yours . ;)

And those wild turkey shots bring back great memories of my hunting days . Thanks for sharing .  :onfire:

Have a great Memorial day weekend !

Oh heck... you've gotta try the first one! ;)
OK you talked me into it, stir fry here we come!

When you guys store up pods for sauces do you freeze em?
I do when the pulls are small. If I get a large enough pull we make it with fresh peppers. Looks like we're going to get some spring supers, but the major production is going to be later in the season if I decide to let them ride out the summer heat. Doing that makes for a long summer and the garden doesn't get the rest it deserves, so IDK at this point.

Loved your little harvest pic, Scott!
Thanks Paul!

I brought 5 of them to work and we tasted, after sharing with 2 groups I'd had enough. Made me start to think of Trent's comments the other day!

Nice harvest, Scott.  I just yesterday finally got my first plants in the ground.  Ten not-white yellow bhuts.  After that last cold snap, I'm not too worried, though.  I'm still ahead of last year.
Thanks John,

Glad to hear you got some in the dirt!

Thanks Jamie!

The kids will be grown soon enough, enjoy them while they're young. Next will be the hand out request for the keys, and when that happens, just think back LOL I did! :D

Here's pic back from my hunting days for you and Jamison. I've been cleaning out the as LB calls it the "Academy room".

Some bow kills from 03-08, that one one the lower left was the biggest bodied deer I ever took. Tore some ribs hanging that beast up to process, note the head size compared to the rest.

I hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend!

Nice racks! Whitetails?

Devv said:
Yes, just what I call decent bucks, in the 16-19" outside spread range. Only got one 22" in all the years I hunted, no complaints. Quite a few stories I could tell ;)
Nice! Definitely bigger than any of the local whitetail we get in at work. Seems all the big one's we get come from people hunting in Texas. The biggest naturally wild buck rack I've seen from here was a 10 point, but the rack looked about half the size of yours.

The size is based upon genetics and area feed, even around my house when we see a buck it's a decent one. Can't eat the horns though ;)

Everything is bigger in texas baby!
:shh: It may get crowded ;)

Here's the biggest one I've taken, gun kill, rattled him in from 400yds. away. Funny thing is he jumped into the oats and started walking away from me, stopped and finally turned around and stood right under my bow stand! 22" outside spread, typical 8 with a g2 kicker. Saw his twin on the next hunt a week later at a different stand at the other end of the ranch and let him walk.

Gary's F3 NagaBrain,  originally from Jamie. Looks more Naga than Brain. This ones in the raised bed, I have at least one in the dirt.

Mmm that MoA looks like the first SB Freeport Orange pods I had last season.
All the MoA's look the same, got the seeds from Ramon. OP and I know he had JA Habs too. So that's my guess ;)

JA Hab, I have quite a few of these between the 3 OW's and this years grow. A fantastic all a round pod.

It's been a dark cloudy day here, and cooler than normal

The other 2 look like they want to be white pods, and I know for sure I did not mix these up. They were the first seeds planted of the 2014 grow.
