First year growing peppers..

Hey guys, so i thought i would start a glog on my plants..
This is my first year growing peppers... I bought all these plants..I did not start them from seed.(dont hate me im new, lol) I had planned on doing so but have learnt iv got into pepper growing at the wrong time of year and have missed the window to grow from seed for this year.
Im afraid this wont be as exciting as many other glogs, but hey, gotta start somewhere and people like pictures :)

This is my sweet long yellow pepper..not sure of the actual type, tag just says long sweet yellow.

Any updates bro??
Hey Swampy, Yeap! i have been taking loads of pictures..but I always seem to have a more recent batch of images by the time I actually get an update posted!

Ok so, Big Jonah got sick and lost most of its leaves. It was severley deficient in several things. I managed to catch the problem with the smaller of the two Jonah;s before it became a real issue..(it started to yellow but didnt quite get to the leaf drop stage)
Small Jonah is now the one to watch with loads of buds..I actually just "topped" big jonah yesterday..it had lost a lot of leaves off the forks, and the branches were longer and floppier then id like so I chopped them off. It has loads of new growth of the stem etc though.

Here is big jonah when he was sick..

here is small jonah on the left. and big jonah on the right..as mentioned I cut the forks off the big jonah (not pictured). Its doing well now..
jonahs_zps60c597d0.jpg

The two tall plants on the left are called "Lamba Mircha". (wild chili's from Fiji) the tall one on the right is a Butch T. Plants on the left are Douglah's. HP22B's and Brown Bhutlah.
The middle "Lamba Mircha" has insane side growth! I think I counted 5 new branches out of the same place down the bottom of the plant..

Heres a better pic of some Douglah's. HP22B and Brown Bhutlahs..all are looking very healthy and only get windowsill light..
smallwindowplants_zps0b9077bd.jpg

just another couple..will again be one of the above mentioned typed..
smallwindowplants2_zpse38b57ca.jpg

and here is another tray of plants...I have just been leaving them in the plastic tote - and leaving it out in the sun during the day and bringing it in at night..these plants are a mixture of HP22B, Primo's, Jonah's, 7 pot whites, SR strain, brain strain, barrakpores and probably some more im forgetting..

I sort of gave up on my LED/artifical lighting efforts. I couldent be bothered moving everything around so much...but the plants don't seem to mind!
cheers

Nice growth on everything.I was thinking about starting to put my plants in the tunnel during the day and inside at night but im to lazy for that lol.
You're going to have some nice big plants this season.

ah well, very soon it will be warm enough to leave them out there overnight :)

Yep im hoping for some good plants!
I just potted up the now not-so-small-jonah...its looking like it will be a winner. Hopefully I transplanted it early enough that I dont disturb the buds its making..

Nice glog, only just found it.  Do you think the larger jonah will pull through?  Did the mother plant survive winter?

My jonah overwintered in an airpot on my front porch under the eves.  It looks a little bit the worse for wear but is still trying to put out pods.  Right next to it was a white fatalii which didn't hold up so well -did emergency transplant and moved it into a little portable greenhouse so I hope that brings it back.

Both your glog and swampys are making me more determined not to put up photos of my plants, I feel quite under equipped.

Hey Rob! Glad you found it :)
Yup big Jonah is doing just fine now. Here is a pic of it. I cut the forking branches off it the other day..

The mother plant is still alive but looks VERY worse for wear. It lost literally all of its leaves, its been neglected over winter. It does have some new growth sprouting at the nodes though - so im confident it will come back for round 2 this summer.
Hope to catch up this weekend! :)

EDIT; oh i forgot, i actually tried to clone the 4 branches that I cut off big jonah..a couple of them look like they may be taking

Here's a better pic of the now not-so-small-jonah :)

Awesome, looking great.  All on for this weekend.  I have at least 5 different types of pubes for you and a white bhut if you want it.  The pubes are doing the best of all the seedlings which further suggests my seedlings might be a bit cold generally.

Sounds good! Keen as to add the white bhut to the list :)

EDIT; oh and put some pics of your plants up! I dont see how you can be under equipped considering all of the above were grown on the windowsill :)
cheers

A package of seeds arrive from Semillas yesterday :)
Jeeze the florida wild bird seeds are tiny!

I want to say thanks to peter for individually labeling each pack of seeds with the botanical name to keep customs on my end happy. Really looking forward to a few of these!
Cheers :)

sorry for the crappy pic..

evening, so i figured out one of my lamba mircha plants is like two plants stuck together..I noticed it because i saw some leaves looked like they were stuck together, kind of growing back to back..so i tried to pull them apart (thinking it would be a spider web or something) and found i was tearing the actual plant..

so it kind of makes sense why it has so much side growth..pretty much doubled up on everything along the doubled stem..
You cant see from the pics, but its looking like the side shoots are also "doubled" so this may turn out to be an interesting plant indeed..there are also two buds at some of the nodes..

Darren/Rob, I gave you guys the same seeds from the same pod as this plant came from, so I would be interested to know if you guys see anything odd if you grow it out :)
If its not a genetic thing, then my other guess would be the nitrosol which its had from a young age, which has gibberellins and triacontanol which I understand are growth hormones which may do something funky..not sure

conjoinedlambamircha2_zpsa1cb59de.jpg

all the stems in the upper fork are doubled in below image..

while we are on the topic of weird things, i planted this weird conjoined yellow 7 pot seed (from the yellow 7 pot plant in this thread) back on i think the 3rd august..
weirdseed2_zps83b6ada9.jpg

and just today after about 16 days...mutant yellow 7 has hooked!   am really interested to see what it does..

Hey everyone! The weather is starting to warm up down in our little part of the world..Night time temps are still a bit cold (sub 10deg C), but the days have been quite nice and sunny.
Its spring in less than a week! Wohooo! It feels great to have plants as far along as I do, getting ready to pod just as the weather is warming up. I should have pods in a couple of months if all goes well.
Its looking like my winter efforts are paying off :)

The plants in my room were getting rather large..and the girlfriend was getting a bit fed up with them, so I bought a few plastic trays so I can transport the plants indoors/outdoors easily. I have been putting them outside for the day and bringing them indoors at night.
toobigforinside_zps84bb61d5.jpg

Here is some of my plants outside (not all of them)..iv actually got a pretty big garden, there is more you cant see..im also considering putting some plants in the ground. Iv got some fruit trees down the back there..I was thinking of sticking a Pube down the back there between the Guava Tree & Fejoa trees..im guessing that ground must be nice and fertile because it gets hundreds of fruits dropped onto it and composted into it each year..
largegarden_zps41c8febc.jpg

here is a tray of mixed baby plants..they have had a pretty tough couple of weeks and don't look too happy! First I sunburned them badly..Then they became defficient in either iron or sulphur or both...so I tested out some new "anti yellow leaf spray" which just burned the hell out of the plants..(i got some on my healthy plants and it burned them too, it may have been too strong, not sure, I dont plan to use it again though!) This pic is a couple of days old. they are coming right now.

Big Jonah is doing well after his big pruning, hes making buds from his new growth. again pic is a few days old, he looks a bit bigger now

Butch T's flowers should be opening over the next couple of days!

here is "small" jonah..first flower started to open yesterday! its got hundreds of buds..hopefully it can hold onto them! I have a good feeling about them so far..

Nice one.Growing so fast.
This weather has been great.Just repotted mine into their new homes.
Let the fun begin   :)

Nice! did you update your glog?
Plants have done well considering it was a windowsill grow. Not the fastest by what I see from others, but its still solid progress!
Im getting so tempted to be lazy and leave them out overnight.
It should be good in a couple of weeks I reckon. Plants would survive just fine now im sure, but I want them to set their current flowers, not drop them :) so I continue to bring them in..

My mircha seedings are coming along. Will let you know if they turn out weird like yours are. Your plants are making me jealous! I have some under lights which are coming along nicely, but those in the greenhouse are struggling with fungus gnats and now aphids. Unleashed the beneficial bugs on them today!
