Guru's Garden - Traveling the World in Search of Peppers

Just starting this glog now so it's one less thing to do in a few months when I'm knee deep in compost and getting things in the ground.

Not much to report at the moment. Strains yet to be determined, but I'll probably end up growing too many like always...lol

Only thing that's going on right now is a clean back patio and the chickens doing their part turning over my compost pile on the daily. Intersted in seeing how the soil microbes appreciate the added chicken poop!

Hope everyone has had a decent winter so far and here's to happy germination!

EDIT UPDATE: This glog has turned into an ongoing overwintering, greenhouse and soil building how-to!

Nice.  Shoulda waited for me and we could have throw some gasoline on that piece and drank some beers...
You would've been welcomed and much needed company today! We were drinking some HEAVY ales and putting up greenhouse plastic :)

Very nice!
I was disappointed that you let it go out though. ;)
I just wanted to prove I could do it! This setup was a yucca on yucca combination. I tried cedar for the hearth board before this and could'nt get it done, but this yucca is almost like cheating!

Thought I'd share something with you guys. I'm over at a longtime, fellow pepper guru's house, Hoyt Saxton (the man responsible for the Hoyt Saxton's Red Pumpin Hab). Here is his original Bhut mother that I gifted to him over 8 years ago. These genetics come from a plant on the river's edge in Assam. Tell tale serrated leaf edges, gnarly and thorny pod skin anomalies, that signature Cheesy flavor, extreme heat and the notorious b.e.r. on about 10% of the total pods. The real deal.

Rich, clear your PM in-box!

Rich, taken any clones off of that mother plant? That is one bad ass plant.

I was just talking about the ripply leaves of a bhut in my glog. Seems that I have a chocolate pepper that looks and tastes like a bhut, but doesn't have that leaf. Strange. Seeds came from a naga morarch red seed packet from Judy. Total mystery.

Awesome to have those genetics close at hand ... looks very similar to Grant @ Jungle Rains genetics in his Bhut Jolokia 'Assam' seeds that I grew out a couple of seasons back ... one of my favourites
That signature Bhut flavor is unmistakable! It's flavor profile immediately ingrained itself into my memory the first time I tried it.

Great looking Bhut, and great job on the fire. A great skill to have.
Thanks! My kids thought it was pretty impressive too! Glad I could entertain them and teach them something they can't learn on a video game. haha

Yeah. The only other colored Bhut I've gotten my hands on that seems to be close is the Yellow Bhut from Spicegeist. It showed the almost wavy, serrated leaf edge characteristics and super thorny pod skin. The flavor was like a Fatalii on steroids had a love child with the REAL Bhut  :)

Love the fire bow! Very impressive. That bhut is amazing too, heck, the entire glog looks amazing. Keep all the pics and updates flowing man.
Ill try my best! Almost done with the greenhouse, so if all goes according to plan, I'll be living out there and keeping this glog going permanently.

Well! The trout was converted extremely quickly. Bones, scales, teeth skin etc were all literally liquefied and there was a beautiful rainbow oil slick on top of the tea as I stirred it for the final time today (peeeeeee yeeeewwwww!)

Dumped the concentrate into the big barrel and added rain water from the koi pond.

Used this as a soil drench at the base of each plant today. Fun Fun!

Glad to here greenhouse is almost a go.  I would love to have one, my uncle has one that he keeps his lawnmower in... Yeah.

Maybe with that fire making skill you should try out for Naked and Afraid.  :P

I can smell it from here. Where do you keep the bucket? In sun or shade?
And boy, did it smell! Full Sun. Full sun for fast, shade for slow :)

That's so funny. I've been talking to Mrs. Guru about that, and warming her up to the idea! Ha. I could destroy that 21 days.  First day, find water. Day 2, build fire and shelter. Day 3, find food maybe? Day 4-21, spoon.  :halo:  ;)
