Guru's Garden - Traveling the World in Search of Peppers

Just starting this glog now so it's one less thing to do in a few months when I'm knee deep in compost and getting things in the ground.

Not much to report at the moment. Strains yet to be determined, but I'll probably end up growing too many like always...lol

Only thing that's going on right now is a clean back patio and the chickens doing their part turning over my compost pile on the daily. Intersted in seeing how the soil microbes appreciate the added chicken poop!

Hope everyone has had a decent winter so far and here's to happy germination!

EDIT UPDATE: This glog has turned into an ongoing overwintering, greenhouse and soil building how-to!

Brilliant. What variety I the tomato? Greenhouse looks great. Much bigger than it looked in previous photo.

Love that greenhouse dude.

That's a big tomato, I haven't got any that big but I got a pineapple tomato that might be a contender in a few days.

That greenhouse is kicking A$$. Can't wait to see the end results.
Wow, thanks guys! I was sort of disappointed in the greenhouse at first, but the more I work on it, the more I like it. Everyone else has really liked it too. I did, however, make a vow to myself regarding my next green house though. I've been renting this home and property from a family member, so I've been trying to keep the work I do either mobile or so inexpensive that I can just leave it when we move to Arizona. The next greenhouse I make will be a permanent structure, super legit, the centerpiece of my landscape features and gardens and most importantly, on property I own!

We got the mulch spread yesterday evening, and it was some REALLY good stuff. Same pile I pulled from last time, but had a lot more time to become soil. In full blown humus mode. Full of fungi, worms and microscopic goodies. I top dressed each plant with a bit of chicken compost and then spread that deliciously thick layer of mulch over the entire plot. Fingers crossed that my season has really JUST begun :)
Oh! and that tomato var. is Beef Master :) I like them.

That volunteer you have looks interesting... I'll be curious to find out if it is a fatalii or a yellow bhut.

That signature Bhut flavor is unmistakable! It's flavor profile immediately ingrained itself into my memory the first time I tried it.

Thanks! My kids thought it was pretty impressive too! Glad I could entertain them and teach them something they can't learn on a video game. haha

Yeah. The only other colored Bhut I've gotten my hands on that seems to be close is the Yellow Bhut from Spicegeist. It showed the almost wavy, serrated leaf edge characteristics and super thorny pod skin. The flavor was like a Fatalii on steroids had a love child with the REAL Bhut  :)

I'll go back and check, but I hope you grew some yellow bhuts from seed to see if they continue to grow true for you.

Are you growing the 7 Pot Brown Bonnet again this year?  What did you think of those?

There are actually three or four volunteers that are throwing those shaped pods and there are definitely two different peppers within the four plants. One is more Fatalii at the top of the pod, while the other is likely going to be some type of Bhut.

I actually do have a small Yellow Bhut seedling that looks like its starting to grow nicely. I didn't germ any Brown Bonnet seeds this year but I have loads of seeds. I enjoyed them very much. Almost had an apricot flavor and great heat.

I have such a surplus of those 16 varieties from last year that I chose to give most of them a rest this season. Unless of course they showed up as compost volunteers. I'll keep you posted for sure on the Yellow Bhut. Like a lot of the plants that are growing out there, it will become one of my over winters into the greenhouse this season :)

The greenhouse is huge and well ventilated should extend your season by several months both in the fall and in the spring.  Can't wait to see what you have planned for the occupants.  Your dedication to your plants and hobby is very obvious.

Thanks! Hope we can keep it well above freezing through the winter. Fingers crossed.

Love the greenhouse too. Permanent or not it looks amazing. And if your season hadn't started before, it sure has now!
Thank you! Haha. Yeah I imagine it will be my little get away when the cold has leaves everything else bare and dormant :)

I always love following all the projects you've got going on!  Looking great!
Will you heat that greenhouse at all to help you over winter?  How much heat would you need for something like that?
Well, with any luck and some good solar masses in there, we hope it doesn't require more than a small space heater during the night hours (if at all).
Also, I'm sure you're getting the album updates via email, but I promise it's still coming! LOL Had to deal with some legal issues regarding names, etc. Getting stuff back from the mix guy every other day now, so it shouldn't be too long :)

Nice work, PG!
Thank you sir! Been a minute since I've checked in on you. How are things?

Nice tea brew....the water from the pond was a bonus for the soil drench.
Cool GH structure, ...it's always a rewarding feeling when a major projects wrapped up......not the same feeling when painting a closet.........lol
Big ol Beefmaster........looks like a cluster of 6 tomatoes fused together.........probably close to 3lbs.

Yeah I saw that news about the name stuff. Looks like someone did something underhanded to you guys, but that was just my take far removed from everything up here. Nonetheless, I check the mail each day with great anticipation!

Awesome greenhouse Rich! Love it ... very jealous! The pod shots are looking great and that corking on red ripe Jalapeños screams poppers! Hope you get that legal wrangling out of the way soon so you can release your album ASAP!! Keep on growing bro!

Great pics Rich. liking the night shots. MOA's looking very good. A that Chuncho looks very happy. Going to be a good producer.

Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.
