Guru's Garden - Traveling the World in Search of Peppers

Just starting this glog now so it's one less thing to do in a few months when I'm knee deep in compost and getting things in the ground.

Not much to report at the moment. Strains yet to be determined, but I'll probably end up growing too many like always...lol

Only thing that's going on right now is a clean back patio and the chickens doing their part turning over my compost pile on the daily. Intersted in seeing how the soil microbes appreciate the added chicken poop!

Hope everyone has had a decent winter so far and here's to happy germination!

EDIT UPDATE: This glog has turned into an ongoing overwintering, greenhouse and soil building how-to!

Nice !.... I have been a Canon shooter for the past 14 years ... But can't justify the jump to Mirrorless just yet ... Although the AF on the new cameras is almost worth the price alone in terms of getting that 1 in 1000 shot... Ideally I am wanting to go to the R6 mkII ... But will make do with my EOS 7D and the use of 5D MKIII for now.

I’m a Canon shooter. Been on Canon bodies for the last 6 years. On this trip I Took my R5, for video my RF 15-35, RF 70-200, 100mm Tokina ATX pro adapted for macro work, 50mm Yashinon adapted, macro flash rig with diffusion mods 3D printed. Variable ND 2-5 stop. Battery grip. Rode NTG with dead cat for audio.

As a Nikon shooter, I can't unsee the Gods of the Jungle taking a leak on your Canon 🥸

Haha ... I love the Camera Rivalry game ... Same as the computer chip, Mobile phone rivalries... I am of the opinion whatever you like/use/get the best photos/videos/enjoyment out of for your style is the best regardless of brand... ...

But yeah back to your point Nikon sucks 😂🤣😜 (jokes) 🤣

Latest plant out to date, but was able to mostly wrap up plant out and irrigation this weekend. June 1 is really late for us. I could’ve gone out in March this year like 2017. Just been busy and couldn’t get to it until now. Dreaded it honestly. But it’s done.

Waiting on a few custom nets for the growdown #100’s, and still need to lay a quick irrigation down for the small #7’s out front but trying a something a little different this year and instead of dripping to waste into the ground, I’ve bungied a 2” catch basin of poly around each container. Depending on rain etc, I’ll see how that works out. Could see my self poking some pin holes if rain frequency is too much. Just having fun seeing if I can conserve irrigation even more.

Backups at the ready in case of catastrophic events. (Termites, root knot nematodes, and God forbid, them thrips that have been creeping up from Florida, etc) I’ll burn it all down if that happens. 🤣

Ecuador video edit is getting somewhere. Should have something to publish to YouTube soon.

While I've got you here. When you refer to attached petals (stellate or non) what term do you prefer to use for that morphological trait? "Gamopetalous"? or another term? I notice the monograph simply uses the term "stellate" and "attached" but that doesn't exactly describe the nature of the fact that there are distinct, modified petals in-between the dominant petals.

You’re giving me way too much credit for knowing botanical terms!!

The only thing I had in my head was flowers that have large interpetalar membrane (IM) regions. I had to just look up Gamopetalous. IM stuck in my head as that was also used in some of the monograph figures.

Oooo. I like that. Interpetalar Membrane. Nice. I just wonder if the likes of C lycianthoides is technically considered polypetalous with IM or gamopetalous.

That I have no idea on. From a quick search I can’t find much about IM other than in the monograph.

The examples I see of gamopetalous make me think it’d qualify as this.

I also wonder if ‘polypetalous with IM’ is a real thing or just superseded by gamopetalous. Perhaps the monograph (figure 5) was just using the IM term to specifically illustrate the trait in flowers of one species versus another? Way above my pay grade 🙄
