HI BOYS & GIRLS

I stumbled upon this while searching for ice breakers for sale. Remember last year when they were saying the Polar ice is all but gone. Perhaps they were talking about Lake Meade just outside of Vegas. Anyway this is one of 5 nuclear power Russian icebreakers taking folks to the North Pole, last july. There are some cool pics and the video (part 2 in the white box) The icebreaker is capable of cutting 16 foot thick ice. Enjoy

Right you are Dick on Lake Mead. You have furthered the argument that global warming is a fact. They're grilling in July at the north pole!!! And swimming too!! At the north pole!! That is solid proof that global warming exists..uhm ehr..except for all of that.....ice.

Used icebreakers..bah! Sold two of 'em last week.

Salute', TB.

Can we just call it global craziness?

When I was a kid, we had no snow. Then last 2 winters here, it's been crazy snow.

Summers generally have been dry and mild. Last 2 summers have had crazy thunderstorms and gone through some extremes for cold and heat.

Same thing in europe, when I go and visit friends.

Something is going on, whether it's a normal cycle or not, I dunno. But our lifespans are pretty short in comparison to the earth so you know... hard to judge!

Ah, gotta watch out for that liberal media. If we started accepting that global warming was real, then we'd have to believe in evolution. Who wants to think about being a monkey's cousin? Not me... God made me outta clay!

Sorry, but the fact that we're influencing the environment with the consumption of fossil fuels is exactly that.... A fact. The carbon sequestered in coal and gasoline hasn't been present in the atmosphere for millions of years. By burning it we relase it, and we'll be living in the kind of climate much like that of the dinosaurs who sequestered the carbon in the first place very soon. Nobody ever said the ice caps were gone. Just that they'll continue to shrink as the earth gets warmer.

Cool site though!

The trouble with the global warming arguement is that no-one can tell how much of it is down to man. An established fact however is that once every 10000 - 15000 years there's an ice age, and before that ice age the world temperature rises - as it's doing now. This is because we're hurtling towards the next one. We've always had mental weather on this planet - all this hand wringing and finger wagging is done by people who are prone to jumping on the "what do we panic about next" bandwagon.

I agree. The earth has had its "cycles" for a long time, and I'm sure we help it along to a certain extent. But in the end, its just a way they can dig in our pocket a little more.

So you get that "green tax" bullcrap in the States as well eh? What a scam - make everyone feel guilty about having a car, heating and generally just living and then rob them blind "because we're protecting the planet." Yeah right! Then they continue to allow the same industries that make cars, heaters etc. to carry on pumping tonnes of shit into the atmosphere! The thing I find most insulting is that there's people dumb enough to believe it all, you know the weird beard tree huggers who lecture people on what they should to save the Earth. Talk about the blind leading the blind.

Well I guess a thinly veiled political post is bound to get political at some point, right? Global warming exists and so does global cooling. It has been going on as long as the earth has been here. These cycles run over great periods of time.

Icebreakers breaking ice in the north pole discounts global warming like the sun shining over the Sahara for another day discounts global cooling.

Governments and private entities will try and capitalize on the transition from fossil fuels to other sources of energy, just like anything else. That's what they will always do, doesn't matter if we're putting up solar panels or burning huge piles of coal, somebody wants to make some $ off it. Hmmm... ever gouged by an oil company, or is it just the hippies with their windmills that are gonna get us?

I'm not exactly sure where we are right now, but I'm pretty sure the possibility exists that we could adversely effect our planets climate unintentionally. I think it'd be stupid to think that we could not. We could pollute the oceans and air to the point of being unable to sustain some forms of life if we wanted to- who knows what else we could do.

Too bad the science of this is mired in political rhetoric and special interests.

Boutros, your last line sums it up perfectly. As long as there's someone after a fast buck there'll be plenty of BS. Damn right we certainly ain't helping the situation but i wish someone in power would stand up cut thru all the crap. But then people in power tend to like the taste of greenbacks. Sorry to jump on my orange crate - it's just that sometimes the world freaks me out.

I agree with Boutros in his statement.

i'm gald that even though the politics behind it make people side with their party no matter what, global warming does seem to be an accepted fact now. Science is gradually getting some attention for an issue that's been talked about, and ignored for decades.

i'm optimistic that the changes needed will happen, but like Boutros says, it has to be in the interests of the political parties and lobbiests (maybe not in some countries) before change really starts taking off.

I'm not even sure why we argue about it?

Again, the sand in the gearbox is politicians. Bush, as well as other heads of state walked away from the Kyoto conference on climate change a couple of years back promising nothing. How could they do anything else? If they tell the industrialists to cut down on omissions they'll give them the finger and threaten to move elsewhere. Result: Loss of jobs, public anger and backlash at the poll booths. Leader loses vote, another candidate gets in on false promises and we start all over again. I really can't see a fix to this. Established rules versus common sense = common sense loses.

I did not mean to start a debate on this one guys, I just thought that there was some pretty cool pics. I am working on a project that shoots down some of Al Gore's claims though. I'm going to post one of my favorite pics, be right back. I thought this one was pretty tough, I'm making it my desktop.

Right, right- back on topic... Icebreakers are pretty effn cool.

Who am I kidding? Willing to hear all arguements on the other issue. And by arguements I mean bribe me with copius amounts of Crab Nutterz DickT....
