How r ur peppers going in Perth west oz?

Im enjoying some of your chilli mango sauce right now.

How am I still "mild"? I'm sick of being a capsicum! The forum must know I wouldn't eat one of those bhuts today.

Nice to (randomly) catch up with Megamoo today at the Chilli Festival. Thanks for the hot sauces, mate!

My mate just got home and checked out some of the plants he inherited from you, via myself, and he's got two got two fat moruga pods hiding under the leaves. Trying to get him to embrace the forum for the pod porn sharing :)

Hi everyone. Noticed these today after a repotting exercise. Photo courtesy of Nokia, plant courtesy of megamoo, identification - Moruga Red (subject to whether the label was put back correctly after his kids removed them) :P

FINALLY all my superhots that were producing rock hard flowers with no pollen have started to have flowers with pollen...only took until the end of the season...

I think the soil from good life soil and the ferts i was giving it were way to strong (had crinkled leaves permanently...)

So after a few months of not doing anything but water seems like they might have come good...

BUT NOW THERE IS BLOODY APHIDS ALL OVER...man the pyrenthum oil

That's funny, ferozaj. My slow growing plants with lots of flower drop have just started to go nuts with pods. ALso in Green Life soil.

I've been dropping flowers like no ones business too! Start of the season was good going..mid to end of season I've had almost nothing.
Looks like I might be hanging onto a few super hots now. Super hots are wayyy to sensitive. My normal not so hot chilies hang on to pods no matter what!

leafcutterbee,

im lucky i saw your display pic.... i was wondering what has demolished my cayenne by taking perfect semi circle cuts out of the leaves...you have just enlightened me.

While most of my plants are starting to take off - I had a question about my purple capsicums.

My plant (in a pot) has about 6 or 7 capsicums growing on it. They are around twice the size of a red globe grape and one of them is slightly smaller than a small apple. They grew to this size quickly and then just sort of stopped. I noticed today that some of them are starting to turn green (they go green and then red as they ripen).

Why are they stalling out?

The plant has quite a few really messed up leaves - would pruning them off help?

Do Capsis, perhaps, being a larger fruit, not do so well in pots?

Will the teeny ones be ok to eat?

I dont think I can help you there! I've got a normal capsicum growing in a pot. Last season it made a few full size capsicums and this season it has only put out small ones, which mostly got sunburnt from the harsh heatwaves we had.
Maybe your pot is too small or maybe like mine they got too much sun?

I wonder if capsicums need larger pots than hot peppers. The pot certainly isn't huge, but I have hot peppers growing to normal size in the same sized pots. Perhaps I'll cut it back over winter and stick it in a bigger pot around september.

Welcome to Perth growing boys!
My theory has been that you get a flush of pods at the beginning of Summer, then when the heat kicks in all you are doing is trying to keep them alive(imagine us sitting out in the sun all day with little water).
Then Autumn BAM everything kicks in with lots of flower/pods and growth.

Here is a piccy of my Hydro Channel finally finding it's groove with the cooler weather

Nice reaper. I know what you mean about them getting too much to look after. It's hard to find the motivation to get out there when half of the pods are chucked out. I deliberately set up my watering to be automatic so it would keep them going without my attention.

Well to the naked eye they r fine but its when u cut them open its issues, next year I have a plan as its my first season have now developed a few ideas, just can't bring myself to go chemical ! And prevention is better than cure. Next year less plants and bigger yield , at the mo morugas, yellow 7 , reaper and goat is next years list but hey I'm bulls?$ting my self lol

Up got up and took bolt cutters to 30 plants all just stumps now, anyone else getting major leaf drop? . Have to feel sorry for the guy at the tip that mulches them lol :fire:

Still luv that setup , does it prevent ants getting in as I seem to have a ant farm in each pot which seem to be stuffing up the roots

Well I've decided to start winding down my season , I know I know it's early but due to bugs and the mess it's making and lack of pods I can use its finally taken its toll. For my first season I think I did ok and have to thank everyone who helped ,commented and just stirred the pot  . Going to keep a few going and want to try my hand at bonsai chilli. But gunna prep for a mega veg winter :) but keep the thread going boys and girls and may ur pods be hot and plentiful .
