JCW's 2015 Glog

Well, here's to another year. I wanted to downsize from last year, and ended up practically doubling everything.  Started germinating on Jan 22 using paper towel method.  Tried 2 ways, one in cups with the seeds on top, other the way I have always done with the seeds in paper towel in ziploc.  Both have worked, but the paper towel in ziploc seems faster, maybe better temp control there.  So far have about 55 seeds in dirt after 11 days with many of them already popped up and looking happy.

Almost an embarrassing setup compared to many I see on here, but it worked great 10 years ago, and still worked fine last year so I figure no need to change yet.

Will need another rack of lights this year for the increase in volume I have.

Grow list as of today (updated 3/17 hopefully for the last time).  I tried to keep track of the sources, so hopefully I have given proper credit here.

Thank you to all who donated or traded seeds with me this winter to help with this list.  My chiropractor thanks you as well.

Thanks for viewing.

Well, not much happening, just a lot of picking.  Pulled a lot of crap plants already that didn't care for.  Pretty happy that the big plants topped out mostly at about 4 - 4.5 feet vs the 5 - 7 foot monsters I had last year.

My Aji's decided they wanted to put out a few hundred more pods late in the year.  Branches weight down to the ground on some of them.

Only keeping about 10% of the pods I pick these days, just too many to handle, but most getting turned into powder.  Usually load 4 trays of smoked pods and 2 more of plain ever 4 or 5 days or until dried.

Nice grow Justin!

I too grew way too many for quite some time and gave most away once I made powder and sauces. One can only eat so many :D

BUT, at least you can sort through and next year plant the best ones :drooling:
Thanks. I wish I never took off the years 2007 - 2013 from growing, I missed out on so much now I guess trying to play catch up with the thousands of new varieties that just keeps expanding.  As of now I will bring back about a dozen from this year and a few from last and then try a bunch more new ones, but going to be way more selective.  I grew so many this year I knew I probably wouldn't like but came across seeds in trades or giveaways etc.  Hoping to control my OCD a little more, but well that might be a lost cause.  I also do a ton of powder, already once again, I probably have a 15 year supply made, but will end up giving most of it away.  I am freezing some so hopefully can fiddle with some sauce making this winter if time permits.

I can relate on so many points, especially a lapse in growing and trying to play catch up. Oh, and the OCD ...... BINGO. Cheerz, Gary

Well its almost over, some pics from a few nice picks in the last few weeks before the gloomy pics start.

Some Jay's peach, about this many more to pick from plants in the garge.

Purple Habanero - one of my if not my new favorite habanero.  Just not many of them, next year might put on in the ground.  Not sure they are purple, but they are big, hot, beautiful flawless pods.
IMG_20151015_192809794_zps68alpt0g.jpg

Another volunteer.  Its bhut like.  Way more like a true bhut jolokia than the ones I grew from PL seeds.  Its bumpy and pretty hot.  Might try to grow it out.  I haven't seen many if any true orange bhuts that actually have the qualities of a bhut like this one does.  I know its a cross of something, but its really good.  I hope with a bigger plant that is started earlier they would be bigger pods.

Had a big gap in updates and pics, just got so busy in August / September picking 5000 pods a week and trying to deal with them.  Maybe next year I can keep up better.  More depressing pics of the sad state of things later maybe.

Thinks are winding down here big time, few shots here of some late pods and the current almost done status of the garden.

This was another volunteer.  What a great pepper.  I am guess 7 Pot Yellow x ?.  It came up near where a 7PY was last year, but this is thinner walled, and longer.  Great taste and very hot for a yellow.

I'll never get tired of these, can't imagine a hot pepper garden without them.  This plant had thicker walls and thicker walls then my other 2.
IMG_20151019_162105073_zpsldpyvf66.jpg

These were thinner walled and a llittle sharper bumps than the ones above.

Majority of the plants are torn out.

Agree, excellent pics and a shame IL gardening has come to an end. Looking forward to what you've got going on next year.

Thanks, it should be ended by now, but holding on.  I just looked at forcast, theres a chance I could still have plants living in the ground into November.  That would be a first.  I was going to pull them all this week, but now may let a few of the better ones still left ride it out till the bitter cold end.  I would love to say I am scaling back next year, but judging by the seed collection I have going, thats not likely to happen.  Hopefully it will be even better.  Had some varieties that I really didn't like and not sure why I grew as I knew they didn't fit my profile very well.

Care to elaborate?

Btw, how where those chocolate bhutlahs, and who was your seed source?

Awesome pods, plants and pics.
