JCW's 2015 Glog

Well, here's to another year. I wanted to downsize from last year, and ended up practically doubling everything.  Started germinating on Jan 22 using paper towel method.  Tried 2 ways, one in cups with the seeds on top, other the way I have always done with the seeds in paper towel in ziploc.  Both have worked, but the paper towel in ziploc seems faster, maybe better temp control there.  So far have about 55 seeds in dirt after 11 days with many of them already popped up and looking happy.

Almost an embarrassing setup compared to many I see on here, but it worked great 10 years ago, and still worked fine last year so I figure no need to change yet.

Will need another rack of lights this year for the increase in volume I have.

Grow list as of today (updated 3/17 hopefully for the last time).  I tried to keep track of the sources, so hopefully I have given proper credit here.

Heres a few more random pics of the last few days in the pepper patch.

Habanero Cappuccino.  One of my favorite habaneros.

Cross section of a Jonah's Yellow Brain.  This one is going to be a keeper I think for sure.

Smoked my first batch of pods last night.

Big and ugly brown moruga.  This thing is twice as big as any pod was last year and 10 times as gnarly.  Last years plant was huge but production and pods small.  This years plant is small but probably has as many pods and all are bigger and nastier.

This one shows the west plot, mostly baccatums and annums here and a few late arrivals in containers.  Some tomatoes clinging to life and the strawberry patch.

The bigger plants are starting to look like they want to set a second wave of pods.  Seeing a lot of new pods high up on the branches of the peppers that have shot up recently.  If we don't have an early frost might have an epic late harvest this year if this trend keeps up.

Garden is getting huge! Are you growing Yellow MOA bonnets?
yes, i got 3 yellow moas, not doing nearly as well as the reds though, one plant is doing well 2 others i though were sick at plantout, turned out to be paranois, leaves had some funny spots didn't want to risk a ground planting by the other stuff so threw them in a big oval container and have neglected them a bit so not much there.  I saw your load, looking good, they are tasty.  The red ones I thought were similar but maybe a little warmer.  I sent my first 2 north but looks like I will have quite a few this weekend.

Now that's a garden!!!  It's so cool to see people on here that can grow in the ground and make it work instead of pots, money, expensive nutes, etc....much more challenging and rewarding.  Well done my friend!

Thanks.  I try to keep it simple.  I don't have a tiller so just dig a hole, put in some mix I make few spoons of granular fert and bonemeal and such and water them in and wish them the best.  Last 2 years have been so wet no need for watering after those first few times when they were young.  I think I saw you have had your own issues with wet this year.

Eh, one of the few pods of mine I never looked up until now. I guess I have Not Jonah Yellows that look just like your Not Large Bubblegums

Justin absolutely phenominal work in your garden ... Picture perfect ... a contender for a gold medal at the Chelsea Flower show if it was here ... Great bonnets MoA and SB7J and you Elysium Oxide's have some great colour ... The Yellow hand grenade is a new variety to me can you tell me please what varieties make up this hybrid

That's exceptionally nice words John. Pods look good, but really garden more like a jungle these days. That yellow was from seeds that were supposed to be Chocolate Hand Grenade acquired in a trade. Not sure of that ones make up but I think introduced by ajijoe. I have 2 plants, one is huge red pods, habanero like heat. This one is big yellow very nice looking pods. I haven't tried them yet, but they sure look good.

Nice pics. I hope I get the to take some pics like that this year. They say El Niño is building and the pacific might get a bunch of rain in October. That could mean snow for us. Well anyway, looks like you'll be busy tomorrow. Make sure you stretch before harvesting. LOL

Thanks for sharing.

That's a ton of ripe pods. Do you let them sit when ripe to wait for others or are that many really ripening at the same time?
