MeatHead 2014

Thought I'd start a new glog as my 1st year grow plants have now gone, and all remaining plants are intended for the 2014 season. Currently have growing with hopes of keeping through winter-
Yellow bhut jolokia
Brain strain
Aji limon
Chocolate Trinidad scorpion
Fatalii
Black Hungarian
Chinese 5 colour.
Have all healthy plants bar 1 out of 6 inch pots and in either permanent or semi permanent homes. Due to messing up the labels I'm not sure which is which on the Chinense varieties. Have 1 seedling that was seriously struggling, but it's starting to throw out new leaves so there's hope for it yet. Hoping we either have a mild Winter here, or I can get some lights set up in our spare bedroom to get them through until Spring. Have a few more varieties I have yet to plant, but thinking I may wait til the end of January to start those seeds.

Anyway, enough babbling. On to some pics!
Green pot is an Aji Limon, bag TBD Chinense, Venus fly trap and pitcher plant on the cooler in the back, cayenne I'm trying to decide whether to OW or not in the red pot and some cilantro in the cup

Another couple of TBD Chinense's and the struggling seedling that's popping back (over watering was the cause I think)

Chinese 5 colour and 2 more Chinense's

Aloe vera and a couple of strawberries for my wife

More tbd Chinense's

Black Hungarian (already putting out flower buds that are getting pinched off for now)

Congrats on the first harvest....hoping you have many many more!!!
Thanks Jeff. The way some plants are starting to pod up I'm sure there will be! I have a quick question about the black Hungarians. Do they turn bright red when fully ripe, or more dark red? Not sure if mine are fully ripe or not yet.

Nice, very nice. Enjoy your harvest.
Thanks Rymerpt! I sure will.

Nice to see some pods starting to ripen, and I'm sure many more to follow.
Thanks Scott! The fatalii was a shocker with how quick it changed.
Didn't get to spend much time with my plants today due to my wife having surgery, so only a quick update today. I must be doing something ripe as I'm getting even more pods starting to pop up.
First serrano pod-

My fatalii has quite a few pods on it now too. Some of the bigger one's are showing some variation, but that could be due to being the first round of pods. Will wait and see if the second round is more uniform

No idea which variety this one is yet, but I love the shape of the pod

My first purple flash pod. I now have all my ornamentals podding up

Sorry I didn't have time to comment more this morning, I was heading to work.  Your plants are looking nice though.
Thanks Jeff. And no problem.

Hope the wife gets over her trip to surgery soon!
Thanks Scott. She's doing ok so far. Luckily no complications so she's just in pain but otherwise fine.

Looks great my fatali is doing the same a few of the pods look pretty gnarly and some are more like the second pic! I can't wait till those babies are ripe.
Thanks thirdcoast. Hopefully won't be too long for yours. My one pod literally went from all green to all yellow in a day, would love to see yours do the same!

Got a couple of better pics to follow up last nights post. This plant definitely is looking to be a choco scorp. Have a few small pods all showing scorpion traits

Quick pic of a couple of my OW's started last September. They've been putting on quite a bit of new growth since moving into full sun, and starting to pod up well after the aphid invasion got knocked back

Love the colour on this plant. Glad I found it at a local nursery. Black pearl

Non pepper time. My wife's Veronica slowly starting to bloom
20140502_161931.jpg

And non pepper question time. Does anyone have an idea what this is? Been having a few of these popping up as volunteers in the ground from seeds spilled from our bird feeder, and pulled roughly 10 starts out of my SAFI pot that was directly underneath it. Could either be sunflower, corn, millet or peanuts, but I have no experience at all with any of those so I have no idea.

Thanks man I just saw about your wifes surgery and even tho I dont know yall prayers your way for a speedy recovery!
Thanks! Appreciate it!

I agree sunflower, I have a row mixed in with the Onions just for grins. They grow fast! Farmers are switching to them over corn around here; they use less water and ferts.

Peppers are a lookin' good!

Thanks for the confirmation! My wife loves sunflowers, so may have to dig these up and bring them with us when we move then.

I agree.  That is all my bird seed grows too...Haven't grown a single bird yet.  Might have to change sources.
Haha. Yeah sounds like defective seed then.

Just saw my first dragonfly of the year flying around the garden. Last year they were everywhere around here. Hopefully we get plenty again this year as well, though hoping they leave any other beneficial insects alone and only target pests.

Congrats on the poddage!

Yeah, I'm starting to see the dragonflies and lizards. The lizards are all over the garden, I hope they like grasshoppers!

One thang about lizards, snakes like them..

Thanks Scott. I've been lucky so far with snakes, only seen one in the 3 years we've been living where we're at now. Got a feeling we'll be seeing more when we move though.

Just harvested my first ripe black Hungarians. Couldn't help myself so had to give them a quick taste test. Absolutely delicious! Outstanding flavour, and a nice sweetness to them as well.

Saved the seeds, and the pods are destined to be added to my homemade pizza tomorrow night. I was thinking poppers, but got overruled by the better half. Either way it's going to be killer.
