MeatHead 2014

Thought I'd start a new glog as my 1st year grow plants have now gone, and all remaining plants are intended for the 2014 season. Currently have growing with hopes of keeping through winter-
Yellow bhut jolokia
Brain strain
Aji limon
Chocolate Trinidad scorpion
Fatalii
Black Hungarian
Chinese 5 colour.
Have all healthy plants bar 1 out of 6 inch pots and in either permanent or semi permanent homes. Due to messing up the labels I'm not sure which is which on the Chinense varieties. Have 1 seedling that was seriously struggling, but it's starting to throw out new leaves so there's hope for it yet. Hoping we either have a mild Winter here, or I can get some lights set up in our spare bedroom to get them through until Spring. Have a few more varieties I have yet to plant, but thinking I may wait til the end of January to start those seeds.

Anyway, enough babbling. On to some pics!
Green pot is an Aji Limon, bag TBD Chinense, Venus fly trap and pitcher plant on the cooler in the back, cayenne I'm trying to decide whether to OW or not in the red pot and some cilantro in the cup

Another couple of TBD Chinense's and the struggling seedling that's popping back (over watering was the cause I think)

Chinese 5 colour and 2 more Chinense's

Aloe vera and a couple of strawberries for my wife

More tbd Chinense's

Black Hungarian (already putting out flower buds that are getting pinched off for now)

Last 2 Chinense's

After getting some more tomatoes potted up this weekend, and checking out how many pepper plants I still have in the greenhouse to pot up, I've come to the realization that I have far too many plants. Need to try to either offload some, or cull some. Need to try to restrain myself a little better next year (yeah right!).

Another little garden helper. Hopefully it's targeting any slugs or snails hanging around

SAFI red hab pod is growing quickly. Not sure why but this is the only pod that's set so far on this plant

Got another fatalii ripening

Danko's are loading up

Finally getting some raspberries ripening. Turns out our plant is actually a black raspberry. Delicious!

Jimmy Nardello transplanted into a 15 gallon root pouch. Can't wait to see how big it gets in here
20140511_120249.jpg

Nard pod. Hoping it's starting to ripen and that's not just sunburn

My first SB7J flower is open. This plant has been hit hard by the slugs and snails.

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Those Nardello's are going to surprise you with their productivity.

Have a great weekend!
Thanks Scott. I was hoping the nards would be productive. Can't wait for ripe one's. Hope you have a good weekend too.

All looks great, raspberries too.:)
Thanks Essegi!
Looks like I'm going to have to be careful outside now. Found this near my plants this afternoon. Hoping it's either a rat snake or water snake and not a water mocassin.

Nice snake skin...looks pretty complete too.
Yeah it was pretty complete. Found another one a few feet away that looked like it was only missing the head. Not sure if one's the top half and the other the bottom half from the same snake, or we have 2 hanging around.

I have my first MoA pod forming! Crappy pic tho due to the wind here at the moment

Judging by the bumps on this little pod I think I have my first brain strains growing
20140512_183937.jpg

Picked the not Brazilian starfish and gave it a taste test. It had a great flavour, and a nice bit of sweetness too. No heat from the bite both me and my wife took, and she liked it so it's going to be a keeper.

Edit to add-I'm starting to think the not starfish may actually be a Jimmy Nardello.
That's it for today. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the pics. Congrats of the pods. Little Brain Strain looks cool. Still haven't got plants outside yet in Colorado. 29 last night. Good luck and have a good day.
29? That sucks. Wish I could send some warmth your way! IT's still only a guess as to it being a brain at the moment, but brains are the only plants I have out of what I planted last year and grew over winter that should have those sort of bumps. Thanks and hope you have a good day too!

Confused me at first, then I seen the not part.  It does sort of have Jimmy's Shoulders on it.
I'm guessing it's either yet another labelling screw up on my part, or I had a couple seeds end up with the starfish seeds when I was getting them ready to dry. Having been a complete rookie to all of it last year, my guess would be the latter. Either way, an extra Nardello plant is more than welcome as I can't get enough of them.
Figured it's time to give an update on some of my smaller plants, seeing as most have been about the larger plants. Not sure if it's the sun and warmth, along with some much needed rain or not, but they all seem to be jumping into high gear. Still have nearly 30 I need to pot up, along with a bunch I need to either give away or cull.
My triple coty Primo at the back and a Barrackpore in the front

Scotch bonnet TFM's are doing great

I love Baccatum flowers!

Absolutely tiny Bishop's crown pod. First one to set for me
20140513_160105.jpg

I now have 2 MoA pods set!

Another (tiny) fatalii ripening

Peek a boo!

That's 10. More after a bump.

If you love the sweetness of Jimmy, I will send you a patio red...if I can get them to make without collapsing on me this year,.  Even green they were some of the sweetest peppers I ever ate.
Thanks Jeff. And the patio red sounds great! I'd love that. My local Lowes and Home Depot have greatly expanded their pepper selection this year, and they have one called a giant marconi. I've been eyeing it off for a while now, but haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Is there a difference between the patio red and the giant marconi?
Danko's are putting out a bunch of tomatoes. My wife counted 13 just on this one plant, and we still haven't counted what's on the other two
20140513_160237.jpg

Lime green salad with a couple of fruit
20140513_160248.jpg

Aji pineapple at the back and Thai fire in the front
20140513_160326.jpg

Couldn't help ourselves at the local nursery on the weekend. Ichiban eggplant, jalapeno and a green zebra tomato

Roughly half of what still has to be potted up

CAP215's loving it outside, though starting to feel the slug and snails wrath

Bonda ma Jacques

A few serrano pods

I've got quite a few scorpions showing some great tails, but this is probably the best so far

That's it for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Awesome pods, dude. Do you remember what variety your strawberries are?
Thanks! The strawberries that are fruiting I'm not sure of the variety. I know they're from Bonnie plants, but didn't keep or pay attention to the tags so can't help there.

HillBilly Jeff said:
Patio red is a marconi type if I am remembering right, but it is way sweeter than the giant marconi I have grown in the past.  Melrose is another good Italian frying pepper.
Thanks for the info Jeff. With the amount of Nards I have now I'm kind of glad I passed on the giant Marconi's. Definitely would be interested in either a pod swap or paying for some of the patio reds though. Sounds like it'd be a winner for both of us.

Looks like you got a bunch of helpers out there man! I need to go back and review your grow list... huge variety of pods, and tons of them have set. Seems like they're ripening fast too. Excellent.
Thanks Adam! Plenty of helpers now for sure. Definitely sticking to the natural route for pest control from now on. Tried chemicals on the few plants I had last year, and all it seemed to do was kill the beneficials and help the bad guys thrive.
My grow list got a bit out of control haha. Not so much on varieties, just amount of plants. If I knew how to ship plants that are in either 6 inch pots or 1 gallon pouches I'd do a giveaway.

Blackberries are finally beginning the ripening process

SAFI red hab in the early morning glow

Finally have some more SAFI pods forming.

A couple of lime green salad tomatoes
20140515_071222.jpg

Cilantro's flowering already
20140515_071325.jpg

Had to put a cage in for the lemon drop as it was sprawling all over some of the other plants
20140515_071450.jpg

Not sure why but some of the lemon drop pods have these spikes over the bottom half of the pod, while other pods are perfectly smooth
