Melissa77754 2012 Glog

Hey Everyone
icon_smile.gif

So I figured it is about time I start a Grow log of my own and I will do my very best to keep it up to date. With two kiddos and a massive amount of plants my days can be pretty hectic. I grew jalapenos and serranos last season, had a decent harvest considering the small pot size I used. In July I met a nice lady giving away hot pepper seeds to newbies on GW, decided to give them a try, August met Smokemaster through a generous SASBE offer and the rest is history!! lol

I started a batch in late August so I have some "overwinters" if you will, living in SoCal I can grow year round with the right protection from time to time. I started out with a cheap 12'x7' hoop house and when the winds thrashed that I bought two 6x8 with shelving, still the cheaper plastic hot house type but the shelving makes it heavy and the winds don't phase it. I also have a 6x6 indoor tent with a 4 bulb T5 and 2 monster size CFL's. The growth indoors versus out does not even compare, T5's are amazing! Have to thank my bro for giving me that fixture.

I am hoping I didn't bite off more than I can chew being it's my first real season growing super hots mainly. I plan to sell some plants along the way to help fund my pepper growing addiction

My log will be pretty picture heavy which I am sure most will not mind! Enjoy and happy pepper growing to everyone!!

Plants look spectacular. Keep it up!!

Thank you! :)

hello Melissa!!, i just noticed that my two blk scorp tongues are a little different from one another in that one has the purple edged flowers and the other solid purple, that's odd well i guess im just gonna have to wait and see what i get

thanks your friend Joe

I am really interested to see what you get Joe! Both of my plants have purple edges on the flower, but one turns completely purple and the other doesn't! lol. I still like them both, nice to look at. Can't wait for yours to set some pods.

That is quite a grow you have Melissa!! I love those purple bhuts!! I wish you were my neighbor lol! Good luck, not that u need it, with the rest of ur grow!

Shauna

Thanks Shauna!! I wish I had a pepper lover as a neighbor, would make life more fun around here! :) Happy growing!

Jalabanero? Is that a cross of a Jalapeno and a Habanero, well that's what it sounds like. Now I have another one to keep my eye on.

Hey RM! Yes Jalapeno/Habanero cross, one I just had to grow out! Mine is a F2, but Fernando has F3's going. Love both of those peppers. and right now I am thinking super charged jalabanero poppers! Yummmm!! lol. Hope all is well, take care!

Everything is looking great as usual Melissa! Love the poddage. That white 7 pot looks kinda like a cleos dragon also, imo. Black scorp tongues and purple bhuts look
Tasty, let me know when you have a couple extras( Like there is such a thing,Lol.) Anyway just wanted to say Hi, and keep up the Great work!

P.S. Jalabanero? sounds intriguing. Keep us posted.

Hey buddy! Thanks for stopping in, how is the desert heat treating you? Not growing cleos dragon, but have some mixes going so anything is possible! I may have some spare pods soon, will send you a PM when I do ;)

Melissa everything looks great as usual I am excited to see your growing a jalabanero it looks like a heavy producer so far I can not wait to try them in a month or less. I think the one I have is at F3 stage.

Thanks Fernando, Jalabanero was one I just had to grow out too! What pod shape are yours favoring? Would love to see some pics of your pods, mine is an F2, will be interesting to compare the two. Happy growing! :)

I'm so envious. Maybe this time next year I'll have as many ripe pods as you've got.

We do live in SoCal, so I bet you will Hooda! :)
Looking great as always Melissa! :)

Also I am glad I'm not the only one insane enough to be starting more seeds *chuckle*

Thanks Ken, hope you made it through Debbie without too much damage. Ahhh more seed starting. Insane, us? NEVER! :P

Melissa, your plants look gorgeous! Yummy looking pods all over them. That purple bhut is doing great in the root pouch. The pods are HUGE. I'm using root pouches as well and my youngest Naga Morich was potted up into the roots organics soil (the rest are in Happy Frog). The plants love that stuff. Glad to see you are reaping the benefits of it as well. Keep up the excellent work!

Thanks compmodder!! :) That purple bhut is amazing to me, I could still fit more than a gallon of soil in that pouch too, not even growing in 5 ga of soil! Roots is fantastic stuff, if I was growing on a smaller scale I would use mainly that. For now I will just put a few of my faves in it, or else I may break the bank! lol. Thanks for stopping in!

NEW STARTS!?!??!?!?!

 HUH?!?! lol

UPDATE

Lot's of pods ripening, everything is reaching for the sky, and although hot at times, the peppers are loving it! :D

This Aji Joe Choc hand grenade is turning red, but I have others in the ground and pots so hopefully one will be a chocolate pod.

Orange Thai

A mystery chinense out front ripening early, everything is stretching out there. Most with set pods are still getting larger, but some are ripening up early.
IMG_4007.jpg

I am not too sure what this one is, thought it was a mushroom type, but no way, this thing it HOT! My husband has had a red 7pot and said the flavor reminded him of that. I dunno.
IMG_4017.jpg

My thai type mystery out front after dark, this plant is huge. No idea what color they will ripen yet, 100's of pods and not one has ripened yet!

well i guess we will have to call this one 'MELISSA RED HAND GRENADE HAB  "
oh crap this is not a good start  , i hope the other will be chocolate and i hope mine will be, none of the parent pods where red, they where in fact almost black
THE RED GENE IS ALWAYS PRESENT EVEN WITH CHOCOLATE AND MANY TIMES YOU CAN SEE IT LIKE MY FRIENDS CAPPUCCINO HAB AND MY CAPPUCCINO NUGGET HAB, CHOCOLATE IS A RECESIVE GENE AND ALSO GIVEN THEY WHERE "O.P." ON MY FRIENDS FIELD THEY COULD HAVE POLLINATED WITH ANYTHING CLOSE, SO IT KINDA DOESNT SURPRISE ME

well only time will tell KEEP IN TOUCH ON THE OTHER ONE

thanks your friend joe

Great looking pods Melissa! I ate your red mystery pod yesterday, and WOW that thing was HOT! I didn't shoot a vid of that one but the flavor/heat was almost identical to the Barrackpores I've eaten. So that would be my guess. Very low seed count for a pod that size too (4). I ate it with dinner and it gave me hiccups on the very first small bite. The only real difference I saw between yours and the barrackpores is your pod's burn was more on the tongue, but that could be due to me not eating the whole pod as once and with food. Great pod and I saved the seeds for me to try them out next season!

Sorry I haven't posted pictures of the Jalabanero but right now all I have is baby pods that are ripe due to that they were dealing with inadequate watering I think, but the new pods are starting to form bigger, but it is literally loaded with a ton of new flowers that look like they will stay. This weekend when I have more time I contemplating of either doing a video or the typical pictures. I will taste the little ripe pod I do have tomorrow atleast hopefully try to get an idea of the pepper's flavor I doubt the heat will be anywhere near it potential. Everything looks great from your pepper headquarters pods and more pods can not wait to see your review on a few of the varieties at the end of the season if you decide to do one. This time I did catch up finally.

Wow, I got excited and depressed all at once, catching up on your grow....holy moly you have got it going on! It reminds me of a sanctuary! I love love love it, I am really jelly of all those pods ripening up! You have grown them so well Melissa! Just amazing, my plants are starting to show some pods but I'm a long way out. I love that you started new plants lol the enthusiasm is marvelous. I feel for you with the neighbors, I live in a predominantly old neighborhood.....I'm the new kid on the block as well and I'm not talking Mark Wahlburg either....you are doing great Melissa. Thank you for taking so much time to share this experience with all of us :)

It's ok Joe, we will just call this one "Aji Joe RED hand grenade"! Not disappointed at all, I have more plants and seeds for the choc hand grenade, so all is not lost! :)

heres my yellow mushroom... some of the pods in the background look vary smiliar to mine.. will let you know how mine grow

Thx Denniz, I think meatfreak nailed it with the Petenero guess, very strong chinense flavor on mine.

Absolutely stunning pictures, Melissa. A shame the Choc Hand Grenade is turning red, mine are now flowering. By the looks of it, the yellow mystery one is a Petenero.

The Yellow Mushroom has an different shape.

Thank you meatfreak! Glad I have a few choc hand grenades going, one should be a chocolate pod! And thanks for the info on Petenero, looks just like my pods! And I couldn't be happier to have another habanero to add to the mix, loved the flavor on that one! :)

Awesome, glad you liked it Shane! Those pods do have a very low seed count which makes me think it's a super cross, my barrackpores are longer than those pods. Who knows, will be really hard to determine exactly what it is. My husband made some salsa with those pods and fresh tomatoes from the garden, he used 8 of those peppers. The flavor was outstanding, but if you kept eating the salsa thinking "this isn't so hot", five minutes later your mouth and tongue would feel it! Lol. Going to grow out a couple more plants of that one, see what I get. Hope all is well! :)

You have some great looking pods there Melissa. Looks like its gonna be mighty hot around your house for sure.

Thank you! It is definitely heating up over here, harvests are getting larger and some supers are starting to ripen! :onfire:

hey Melissa

my blk scorp tongue the one with solid purple flowers has purple pods

Awesome Joe, so do they start off yellow or emerge completely purple? So much variation with that strain, I like it! :)

Long time no hear Superwoman!?!?!?!

Ahhhh Shane things are crazy over here, hardly any time lately to get my THP fix! And this superwoman needed a little vaca, we went camping up in big bear for the 4th. Nice little getaway from reality, my mom took great care of my babies while we were gone! Back today and came home to a nice harvest, no more vacations for me until off season! Lol. Hopefully I will have time this weekend to play catch up on everyone's glogs.

Probably too busy taking care and harvesting all of her plants

You are right! :D

man i hope not!!!

I promise I won't go anywhere Joe, even if I go 1 week between updates you can count on me always coming back to my THP family! :)

No worries Fernando, baby pods ripening early is something I have been dealing with here. My plants are all stretching and bushing out, some baby pods are ripening in the process. Our next batch should be normal. You can count on some reviews later in the season, building my tolerance slowly but surely. I want to TRY and eat a fresh super before the season ends on video, at least half of one. For now I will suffer in silence when I eat a really hot one! LOL.

Hey 3/5! Thanks for stopping in and for the kind words, I really appreciate it! So many pods ripening up are making the process more enjoyable, all work and no reward was getting old. Next year I hope to have ripe pods much sooner, hopefully I can get a real greenhouse before the season is up! Not fun being the new kid on the block, but growing up with 3 older brothers has taught me how to hold my own! haha. I wish I had time to be more active on here, between the lil ones and peppers it's like working two full time jobs. Thanks for the support, I need to do some catch up on the glogs this weekend. I need to pay yours a visit to see what's happening in 3/5's world!

Is it just me, or there is no pictures in the last post Melissa?

Never the less, we can still see that you're doing an excellent job here.
Great work for a first time superhot grower, I'm fully amazed :)

I'm not seeing the pics either,bummer.... What are you doing with all of those pods? Love the orange thai. I had a chance to eat them last year, alot bumpier than red varieties. I may be showing my age here.... 3/5 wasn't Donny Wahlberg in NKOTB? He was the badboy "swoonin".

THP was giving me issues last night, the pictures showed up when I reviewed my post and are no where to be found once it posted. I couldn't even edit the post last night! lol! Anyway thanx for stopping in, first year super hot grower comes with many challenges! But I am enjoying every moment of it :)

I will repost the pics right now, can't edit that last post, THP was trippin on me last night! We have been eating all the pods, salsas, fresh, cooked. My parents have a huge peach tree and my mom makes jam with them every year, so this year I asked for her to do a chili peach jam, it is goooooood! Next batch I will make hotter though, maybe throw some supers in. Ahhhh you took me way back with the NKOTB talk, I was in love with those boys back in the day! lol. Mark has been in so many movies not sure which 3/5 is referring to, shed some light on us 3/5! :)

Here are the pics since they didn't post right last night
