Nice Paul .... Its been about a month since I have been around here ... Plenty of ripening in that time I see .... How are the heat and flavour levels of the various varieties?? Nice work my friend!!

So are you a fan of the slugs?

We don't have them here...too arid.
Hey, Scott!  I'm not a slug fan, per se, but I do understand their role
in a temperate ecosystem like PNW.  We'd be ankle deep in slime
and algae if it weren't for slugs and snails              ;)

Garden slugs, on the other hand, receive little quarter!

Wow!!! I missed a bit...and you're starting seeds!!!  That's the Paul I know and love!!! Those pods are as crazy as your slug! 3+" Fataliis! Keep the pics coming brotha!
Howdy, Shane!  I know    just the way I roll, brothah       Just trying
to follow in your footsteps.  January seed sowing will be here before we know it!

I have a few pics by way of a small update.  We're starting to get quite a lot of
ripe pods on some plants - time for a little harvest.  In the meantime, here's the
Mountain Pepper I grew out from a pod obtained in Honduras, seed sown 4/2.
The plant is compact and upright.  This one in a 3 gallon root pouch:
_DSC0458a_zps8e75a260.jpg

There are seven flowers on most every node, and they set pods at a high rate:
_DSC0444a_zps109003dd.jpg

Some of the nodes have podded up pretty good.  New pods setting every day:

_DSC0442a_zps478ce931.jpg

Upgraded my grow shelf lights a little.  Got these from HTGSupply.com.  They had the most reasonable price and the shipping was fast, although a bit expensive.  One-hundred for the pair of lights with bulbs
and about $35 for shipping.  So far the plants seem to like them a lot:
_DSC0455a_zps08d98920.jpg

Okay, gotta run - will be back to answer the page 31 posts and post more pics.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

That is one cool plant!!! I want one...but would have to hire someone to harvest them for me!!! That is crazy! What is the flavor on that like?

Nice T5s also! You're doing it right with those! I think that is HTGSupply.com though...I just checked them out, really good prices!

Plants and pods look terrific Paul.  That slug is a beastly thing for sure.
Hi Pia!  Thanks, friend.  The CTR has two really nice pods on it, but not
one more flower has set; they are laying all over under the plant..  So bizarre.
I'm going to save the seeds for sure and try again next year.  I hope they color
up soon!

Hey buddy!  You haven't missed all that much!  Good news is that three
of the ones you sent me are coloring up

Bonda ma Jacques:

Bahamian Goat.   Really hard to capture the great peach color on these.
The pics always look too orange:
_DSC0453a_zpsa77c9e3f.jpg

The Scotch bonnet TFM:  Definitely a 'not', but I think the pods are lookin' very interesting.  The first one
ripening is a different shape than almost all the other pods (like the ones in the upper right corner):

Incredible collection of pods and yea.... you got more plants on the back burner! Wow... well done!
Thanks, Lourens; guess I'm a glutton for punishment!
Not quite as impressive a collection as yours, my friend!

Here's one I haven't shown yet.  The Devil's Tongue is getting it's yellow
on.  I trimmed all the big water leaves off all the plants now that the days
are shorter and Fall is getting here.  Hopefully the increased light will spur
more rapid ripening:

Finally getting caught up on my glogs.  Those are some excellent peppers!!!
Thanks, Bodeen.  Good for you for catching up and making me look bad

The Goat's Weed (Shane) is another April 2 sowing - in a 3 gal-
lon pot, from a pod I dried last year.  They make superior ristas:
_DSC0459a_zpscc24fa72.jpg

A little closer view of the tops:
_DSC0460a_zps53d19712.jpg

Here's a great 'phoenix' story.  The Orange Manzano OW that caught a whiff of the 2-4-D
I sprayed on the other plants was sick and dying a slow death, one leaf at a time,  I was
ready to cut it iff when I noticed little green growth buds at all the leaf nodes.  So, I cut it
back and let it grow out.  Looks like it might survive after all    woot!:
_DSC0462a_zps1d9e7834.jpg

Here are three more three-gallon Root Pouch plants, with the Manzano OW in front.  The one on the left is
an Orange Manzano from the pod off of the OW.  It's 'wingspan' is about six feet and it is flowering and
setting pods like crazy.  The other two are Chocolate Habs (Refining Fire); the smaller is the clone:
_DSC0461a_zps71609779.jpg

Guess that's it for now.  I took some more pix today.  If any are decent, I'll post in the next coup;e of days.
Thanks for the visits, they are much appreciated especially in light of my lagging far behind!

That's one happy looking plant Paul!

I hear ya about the slugs, never thought about their place in the ecosystem.

Nice score on the lights too!
The Mountain Pepper really seems to like this climate. Next season, I'll start it much earlier.
I didn't get the seeds until March.  It's in the greenhouse right now, riding out the stretch of
cool, cloudy weather.  Pic coming soon!

I've been coveting new lights since this past Spring : )

Looking good.  I think you said a while back about not getting your powder ground fine enough?  I use a 20 dollar mr coffee grinder and it does good work.
Same here, Bo.  It's plenty fine enough if I sift it a bit.

Maybe I need to grind longer, but it just seems to be
spinning around and not grinding much after a while.

You are absolutely right Shane, thanks for correcting.  I'll go back and edit.

And you are def on the list for Mountain Pepper seeds, buddy!  The pod I
sampled last year was darn hot; I'm looking forward to these!

Always fun stopping by Paul's place! Doing those plants right! I wish my yard looked like that...I finally decided to pay a little extra on the water bill. It's not worth it over the scorching hot dry summers here...but with fall and some cooler nights lately, time to bring the lawn back. It'll be rag tag compared to yours though!

I'm not a big fan of lawn, but a little bit is nice.  My lovely
bride likes lawn, so if she's happy, I'm happy!
It is difficult to keep one green in the hot weather with
an inch of water a week.  When mine is a little long, and you
look at it from the side, it looks nice and green.  But, when you
look straight down after cutting, it is really pretty ragged.

Looking good Paul. Strange about the TFM,s being nots.... Because that pod was pretty isolated and also was surrounded by red podded plants ... If it had crossed with them it would more likely also be red I believe ?? The pods do still look like some of the pods from the parent plant ... Albeit the early and late season ones .... Could be a cross still and I am completely wrong??
What do they taste like??

Plants are looking stellar Paul!

AND the pics match up in quality.

I must agree with Shane, your yard always looks great!

I give up on a lawn here until the cycle comes around to raining again. I do keep some of the Emerald Zoysia, and St. Augustine alive..barely, on the north side of the house. I think it's been over 2 months since I mowed...which is OK too...LOL

Have a great week!

Hey, Ttristen!  It is strange, but I think crosses are more common than we might believe.  I sent
DocnRock some Pointed Yellow Habeneros that turned out orange.  I see bees flitting between
plants all the time.  I picked the first ripe one and had a sliver of the pod with some roast chicken.
It was hot of course, but added a nice flavor to the chicken.  I'll be fine with those pods -hoping
more ripen!  It will be interesting to see what they produce next season.  Here's the latest pre
harvest shot of your Yellow 7.  What a great plant!

You are too kind, as usual, Scott!  I don't blame you for giving up on the lawn in summer.  It's hard enough keeping one green here.  Shade helps a lot in the summer.  The rest of the year no problem!  Mpwing is a recurrent pain.

Here are some pre-harvest shots from a few days ago.  Most of these pods are dried already.  Will post some harvest pics later.  Fatali OW:

Orange Habanero:

Giant White Habanero.  Sorry about the fuzzies - shooting one handed!:

The GWH is really loaded.  Ripening has stepped up the past two days:

One of the gnarly non-stinger pods:
_DSC0470a_zps72db7e7f.jpg

Naga Morich finally beginning to ripen:
_DSC0473a_zps070fb476.jpg

The Marconi has put out great pods, although they have only started to ripen
in the past two weeks:
_DSC0472a_zpscca8981a.jpg

Okay, dinner bell is ringing!  Will post more pics in a bit.

Nice pod shots Paul... glad to see the season is treating you well. I think my favorite pepper from this year's grow was the Yellow 7, so +1 on your assessment! Nice save with the Manzano that got sprayed with weed killer... Hang onto that one... it really wants to live! Take care guy, and continued success!

Peruvian White Habanero.  Still a way to go 'til harvest:
_DSC0474a_zps69cfb3bd.jpg

Pointed Yellow Habanero.  Just about there:
_DSC0475a_zps3d650574.jpg

The Orange Manzano is flowering and setting pods nicely.  Most will never ripen, but I think I'll be able to trim it back
for the greenhouse and let it ripen up a few pods over the winter like last year.  Here are a few pix of the flowers:

We're in for a spell of clouds and rain, so have moved some of the plants back
into the greenhouse for the time being:

Okay.  Going to prep the harvest pics.  Hope everyone is up for a great weekend!

Sorry I missed your posts, fellas.  Last night the site wouldn't upload
my update, so I just left it.  When I hit the post button this morning it
finally uploaded, but your posts were already on the page.

Thanks, Scott.  The pepper gods have been kind so far.
If we have a nice Fall, they will have been awesome!

Thanks, Rick.  I'm glad the Yellow 7 was to your liking.  I have enjoyed
a few nibbles off mine this Fall!
The Manzano is really growing out.  I hope I can contain it in the
greenhouse.  I may have to prune it!

The other night I was in mid post and a storm was between us and the wireless tower, I thought it went through, but it didn't. When I revisited and went to post it had been auto-saved, which was pretty cool.

I too am a Yellow 7 fan, great flavor and a nice burn!

Have a great weekend!

That pretty much mirrors my experience.  Don't know the cause,
but I was able to copy the post and save it then re paste it into a new post.

Here are the harvest pics.

GReat taste and heat on this one, too:

I was surprised by the heat of the Bonda:

These are being slow to ripen:

I like this one - nice flavor and heat:

Very productive bush:

Way hot.  The larger green pod is ripening in the window sill:

So far so good.  Hoping for at least two more harvests before the end of the Fall.  We've been
having mixed rain and sun, so the plants should keep plowing ahead.  Hope you are all having
a good weekend!
