PaulG 2014

Grow List 2014 - Many new varieties and a few repeaters.
This is the third year of my original three year plan to grow a slew of different
types to see what grows well here before settling on some consistent performers.
I'd love to grow some of the new varieties from this season again, and some more
of my favorites from 2012, but not enough space.  But I have seed for my favorites for
season 2015, so I have something to look forward to already!

Major goal for season 2014 - lay in a good supply of super hot powder!

Just a quick update on the wild Texas Tepins.  This one has the most ripe pods; all will have to go to the greenhouse when and if I need space for starts in party cups:

I'm not sure, Adam.  I have a couple of ideas.  Maybe fungus gnat
larvae - I had an explosion of them a couple of weeks ago out of
nowhere.  It may be that the Happy Frog / Ocean Forest mix is too
'hot' for the tiny seedlings, but that would be weird since it wasn't
for the round one seedlings.  I'm confident things will sort themselves
out and if I lose a seedling or two that's the way it goes.  As for culling,
I just took the weakest if there were three, and if two and one looked
bad, I took it.  I will eventually get to one seedling per cup.

Good luck with those Scotch bonnets!
The ocean forest / happy frog is rich but it's not synthetic so I still use it with seedlings. Seems to work well and much better than miracle grow.

All your plants are looking great. Really interested to see the brown eggs from hearing about them last season. Also jealous of those fish peppers! I'll be interested to see how variegated they come out. Apparently the variegation has started to get lost in them. At least that's what I had read somewhere haha. I'm going to try and get my hands on a plant from a nursery to make some crosses with.

Thanks Paul! The ocean forest is rich for sure, fun to give Ina whirl this yea though.

Love your photos! Keep the info coming!
Thanks, Adam.  The Fox Farms products are money.
By and large, the plants do very well in them.

I really like the Ocean forest and the Happy Frog combo.
This is my second season using it.

Thanks, Arrick!  I'm looking forward to seeing how the Brown Eggs and the Fish Pepper
turn out.  It was very kind of Jason and Tristen to send those my way.  If I get some good
pods from them, I'll be happy to send a few along your way, as well!

Everything's looking stellar Paul! Glad the Dougies and Cheiro Recife came through for you. Keep 'em green buddy!
The seed you sent germinated very nicely, Rick.  4/6 on the Douglah and
5/6 on the Cheiro Recife.  Too bad I don't have room for all the ones
that germinated!

Thanks for the positivity, buddy!

Great looking plants Paul! Love the side shot of the NagaBrain and the Funkytown Reaper!

Manzano in the greenhouse is juicy!

Mike
Hey Mike!  Thanks for dropping in.

The T5HO lights really reach down into the plant so the lateral branches can get going.

I'll be testing the Manzano for juiciness in a couple of days!  It took all my will power
not to pick it today!

Holy cow....all of your plants look amazing Paul  , gonna be a spicy summer for you!!
Thank you, good neighbor to the north!
I'm really looking forward to getting those wonderful tomato
seeds you sent me into some growth medium!  Are they mostly
indeterminate or otherwise?

How about a aerogarden update ? Your wish is my command, my friend!
I'm very pleased with how things are going so far, Jamie.  The seeds
I took from the Brainstrain pod you sent in 2012 germinated 6/6!
Can't do better than that!

Okay, aerogarden update!  Finally saw a little action yesterday.

From a pod you sent in 2012, Jamie!:

Unfortunately, this one is wearing an accessory:

The romy6 Mystery cross Goat's Weed is growing nicely:

17 days to hook in the aerogarden - two seeds germinated.  I think it takes longer in the aerogarden because the
water bath temperature is the same as the ambient temp in the garage.:

9 days to hook in a Jiffy pellet.  the heat mat makes a real difference:

This is a true Giant White Habanero from Sawyer.  Looking forward to this one, John!:

Still to germinate in the aerogarden, The RocoPica from Stc/Pr0d and the C. Galapagoense, also from Stc/Pr0d.  I
can be patient;  I'm glad to see that the unit is working!

It looks like the aerogarden is going to be fun.

Love the aerogarden sprouts! Lookin forward to seein how your giant white Habs turn out! Good luck!
Thanks, Adam!

John sent a pic of the plant the GWH seeds came from, and
the pods are a beautiful white color.  Should be a real looker!

Sweet brother . I was thinking the same thing , water is not warm enough for fast germination. Now get that helmet off  :hell:
Surgery scheduled for late tomorrow morning!

BAM!!! Remember what I said about twice as many sprouts??? Hahaha!   Awesome! 9 days on the Chacoense!!! I will have to take note of that, I should be expecting sprouts soon then.
The Wild Bunch you sent is doing pretty darn well - now just to get the last two to pop.
Will be interesting to see how they go in the Jiffy pellets.

All outta likes for the day...

I hope that GWH grows true for you.  Most of mine did last year, but one was a... giant orange-yellow hab.  I'll grow both this year.
I do too, John.  Wish I had room for more than one plant.
I have a couple of my not GWH going, so should have lots
of Yellow Cardi Scorp looking' pods!

Nice to see the aerogarden babies are off and away Paul... Now let's see how quick they grow!!
I was holding my breath for a minute, Tristen, but now can relax a little!
Should be an interesting experiment.  Thanks for stopping by!

That would be awesome. Good luck on those wilds! Hopefully the helmet head comes off easy for you.

Thanks, Jeff; have been fortunate thus far!

Always a good thing to see new babies stand up and salute!
Yes, indeed, now they just need to remain 'on duty'!

Of course I'm in the same boat, just where are they all going to go?
In a way, it's good that I don't have more usable-for-pepper-plants space, so I
have to max out at 40-50 plants.  That still means too much hand watering.  I
really want to get down to 8-10 varieties that I really like and grow well here so
I can grow more than one of each type and not have to depend on one plant.
We may be taking a trip Summer 2015, so the garden will have to be totally on
automatic irrigation.  That may be a blessing in disguise!

Good growin', buddy!
