Grow List 2014 - Many new varieties and a few repeaters.  
This is the third year of my original three year plan to grow a slew of different
types to see what grows well here before settling on some consistent performers.  
I'd love to grow some of the new varieties from this season again, and some more
of my favorites from 2012, but not enough space.  But I have seed for my favorites for
season 2015, so I have something to look forward to already!  
 
Major goal for season 2014 - lay in a good supply of super hot powder!

The items in bold font went into distilled water today, 12/15,
and will go into Jiffy pellets tomorrow.  The incubator has the
cell pack with the three Giant white Habanero seeds that

Just a quick update on the wild Texas Tepins.  This one has the most ripe pods; all will have to go to the greenhouse when and if I need space for starts in party cups:

It made a great dish, Lawrence.  The scent never seemed that way
to me, just smelled like a Capsicum.

It hit 46 last night, and the Peruvian Yellow Ajis were very droopy this morning,
so I brought them into the garage.  That was about four hours ago, and they
are fine, now, all standing up nice and straight!  We are in the middle of a 3-4
night freeze, so they will be inside for a few days.  The rest of the plants seemed
to be more tolerant.  Will check on them tonight sometime.Snowing hard right
now, and sticking.

Great pics Paul! My favorite are Paul's mystery crosses... can't wait to see how they turn out. I bet they're going to be very dark. I always wonder if the darker varieties are more shade tolerant, as it is with greens.

Tristen's Mystery Crosses should be interesting.  
Keeping my fingers 'crossed' for them.
 
I'm not sure about the shade tolerant thing.  In my experience,
with Explosive Ember and Black Pearl plants, sun exposure
made the purple varieties darker, shade made them lighter.

My real purpose is to get enough to smoke and grind for powder, both
smoked and natural.  Shane sent me some a couple of seasons ago
that was great.  I also like the Manzanos stuffed and roasted.  Last
winter, our peruvian friend made a stuffing for my winter Manzanos
that made a killer dish.  I also like the Yellow Ajis a lot.   Both varieties
take some jumping through hoops to grow here in PNW, but they are
awesome on many levels.

I've had a lot going on this week and have had a hard time keeping up with all the glogs.
 
Glad to see the plants are doing so well, and the Aerogarden is working out for you.

Love the lineup in the Solo cups Paul! The Cheiro Recife looks about like I would expect. Its growth habit looks a lot like the Pequins you have growing... a curved, single-layer canopy that grew out instead of up after it forked a few times. It produced a prodigous amount of blossoms and round dime-sized pods with a nipple on the bottom. Once the pods really started to ripen, I got a hatful every week until frost.

I don't have a lot going on, and I find it hard to get around to the grow logs   :rofl:
 
Most things look pretty good.  I need to change the water in the aerogarden,
but it seems to be working pretty well.

The plants always look so good under the lights on the warm shelf. 
 
I see a lot more early branching under the T5HO lights, but the Cheiro
Recife is definitely one of the bushier ones.  so is the Wild Brazil;
very vigorous  branching for a small plant.  How is the heat and flavor
of the Cheiros?  
 
Paul you got roots coming out of those solo cups? I got the same setup but it seems like the roots came out fast... They're half the size of your kiddos.

The Cheiros are about Habanero hot or a little less, but very aromatic. I'd say the flavor is pretty typical of Red Habs...  I used them in my red sauces and kitchen sink powder.

The roots start showing up at 3-4 weeks, and by 5 weeks, there are quite a few.  
I don't leave the bottom cup in place for more than 24 hours to prevent roots from
snaking around the cup.  instead there are more roots in general, just shorter.  
Once there are quite a few roots showing, the growth up top really accelerates.

We're in day two of a three day snow storm.  About 6-7 inches on the ground in our back yard:

The snow is pretty for now, but sort of monochromatic.  The
brightest thing in the view out the window is the Goat's Weed
rista I made last Fall:

Yes, Nick, there is a small space heater in it.  When it's snowing hard,
it piles up on the roof, but melts quickly when it lets up.  You can see
one of the OW Manzano on the left, and an OW goat's Weed on the right!

Your starts are looking great!
I don't think it hurts them, Adam.  I found it harder to transplant when there were a few
long, dangly roots, is all.  I liked the idea of a bushier root ball.  The roots soak up most
of the water within 12-24 hours, usually, so the plants aren't getting short rations.

Thats awesome! What kind of temps are maintained in there? And does it cost much to keep it running?
 
Looks like an excellent private backyard retreat... with an awesome growing space to boot!

I try to keep the temps just at 50˚F overnight.  On a nice day it can hit 70˚ even at
this time of year.  It got down to 45˚ during the past several days of cold and snow.  
I can't really figure the cost too accurately, but I doubt it's much over $10-$15 a
month in a cold month.  It might be less, I'm not sure.  
 
The back yard space just sort of evolved over the years. Not much of a real plan.  
I still have ideas floating around in the back of my head!  It is pretty private, so that
makes it a nice space.

Thanks, Jericson!  The aphids love the greenhouse, too!
Otherwise, it's a pretty good space for the plants.
