PaulG 2014

Grow List 2014 - Many new varieties and a few repeaters.
This is the third year of my original three year plan to grow a slew of different
types to see what grows well here before settling on some consistent performers.
I'd love to grow some of the new varieties from this season again, and some more
of my favorites from 2012, but not enough space.  But I have seed for my favorites for
season 2015, so I have something to look forward to already!

Major goal for season 2014 - lay in a good supply of super hot powder!

Just a quick update on the wild Texas Tepins.  This one has the most ripe pods; all will have to go to the greenhouse when and if I need space for starts in party cups:

Paul, The number is the only name I know of for the PI-441598. They originally come from silversurfer. They were a creamy color one year, then red the next. They were crossed by something. I got some seeds from the red ones via coheed. Those grow out last year as two reds and one peach. The peach was a keeper. :D
My brown eggs look like yours. Last year they were more consistently egg shaped. They also tasted better last year, at least the first few pods this year anyway. Hoping that flavor comes back.

Yikes!! Nice one Paul .. what amazing hauls ... great stuff
Thanks to the generosity of forum members, including the
four in this post    - Thank you, all!

There are some killer pods coming off the plants.
I have some pix in the camera I'll try to get posted before we go to coast.

Take care, Tristen!

Plants and pods are a thing of beauty Paul . Looks like you may need to get another dryer with all those pods your hauling in.

Have great weekend and those Brains bring back some fond memories thanks for sharing
I have eight trays going on the dehydrator 24/7   .  I'm drying at 105˚ this season
to preserve the seeds, so it's taking a bit longer.  However, the color of the pods
is greatly enhanced.

Your Datil is podded up and coloring up like crazy.   Way cool plant!

Awesome updates, Paul.  I'm glad to see the GWH is growing more or less true to type.  They really are a beautiful pepper.  Yours are not as large as they were for me the largest pods are still on the plant   , unless those Bonda x Yellow 7s in the picture up above are feakin' huge.  (Just noticed the quarter, so yeah, they are a little small compared to last year.)

The 7 Pot Burgundy is an amazingly diverse variety.  Just about every plant I had last year produced something different, peach, caramel, red, and yes, even burgundy pods.  Your pods look longer than I remember, but the color is almost fluorescent.  They are beautiful, indeed.  The slow change from dark orange to full-on red is excruciating, though

What's your take on the flavor/aroma/heat profile of the Brown Eggs?  I was looking forward to those this year, but dropped the ball on getting them moved up and out from the germination flat.  Shame on me. Don't beat yourself up, my friend
They have the distinct chinense flavor and the blossom ends are very sweet and crunchy.  The stem ends have some heat, although not long lasting, but it would be too much for folk like my wife.

I think I've had an epiphany regarding the wilds.  I find them interesting, but really have a hard time justifying garden space for them.  I was just noticing that there aren't any birds hanging out around my place this afternoon and it occurred to me there isn't anything for them to eat.  (Wild cherries, blackberries, plums, and mulberries are all long gone.)  I think I'll dig some holes along the fence line and try to get some wilds growing there next year.  Then I can look at them, pick a few if I want, but mostly they'll provide something for the birds to eat this time of year.  With luck, they could become self-sowing along the fence.  (Way better than privet.)  That would be over the top.  They are problematic regarding harvesting, but they dry easily and have a decent kick.

Your Peach "Arkansas Reapers" are gorgeous peppers, and apparently very large from what I can tell.  (Again, just noticed the quarter, so yeah, big peppers.)  Mine have essentially the same shape, but I don't think they are quite as large.  I tasted one today and the flavor was remarkably intense, before the heat kicked in and even then, the heat was not overpowering.  Granted I took small bites from the middle and lower part, so I may have missed the surprise, but I thought it was quite mild for a super.  I think new member Wes is posting a video review of one sometime today, maybe in my glog.  I'm surprised by the small size of my Reapers, but delighted by the peach pods on it's cousin -  that's a keeper to go with the PI441598 peach cross.  Judging by my plants, they would be unrelated

Those Romy6 BrainStrains are the quintessential Brain, aren't they?
I only have a few true pods on the BrainStrain, but those four are nearly perfect.
There are three more randomly shaped pods just starting to ripen now.  The four
should be ready tomorrow   :flamethrower:

Here's another outstanding A. Reaper:

I just love seeing all the poddage ripening!

Great grow this season!
Thank you, my friend!  How are the Tejas winds treating ya?

Yeah, this is money time all right.  I almost need to get help harvesting!

Thanks for the great seed you fellas sent this season - my grow has a more
interesting variety because of your contributions.

Here's a shot of some red NagaBrains - Windchicken, ripening up:

We have decided to go to coast on Monday rather than tomorrow, so I'll work on getting some more pix up.  Hope everyone is having a
great weekend.  We went to a Bat Mitzvah today and are going to the celebration tonight - Part-a-a-a-a-y     The young lady
was a student of my wife's and the family has stayed in touch.

Hey, bud, you snuck in under my post
I'll give it a try again next year to see how it runs out.  It's a hottie!

The Brown Eggs are interesting, and unique in pod shape.  I see it as a good blend
with some chocolate varieties for powder.  Maybe I'm goofy           :D

Thanks, again for the really great varieties of seed this season, Jason - you sent some
awesome stuff and very viable!!  I'll be getting up some pics as they ripen more.

Have a great weekend, bro!

You're definitely on a roll Mr. G... way to go!  Nice to see the Douglahs are coming through for you, the timing was about the same as here. How are the Cheiro Recife doing for you? I hope they didn't fall by the wayside.

I love the brown eggs. Really a unique pepper for sure
Hey, Denniz - sorry for the late reply - been out of town and really busy with pepper plants!

The Brown Eggs is a cool variety for sure.  Might be good to mix with super hot chocolates for a nice powder.

Had a major pull yesterday, Rick, including a gob from the Cheiro Recife.
That's a really nice little plant and the pods dry very nicely to a crimson color.

We re about at the end here.  Several plants have ripened up all their pods, and most
are looking pretty shabby with the wind last week, and they are running out of steam!

Jacen (onefowl1) gave me a cool plant at the NWCF last weekend.  The gathering was small, but a real blast:

I have about 70 pics to upload, so will get back to this thread later.  Have to go take care of the 30 pounds of pods
I pulled yesterday.  Took me 5 hours!

Well I will give you a bump and patiently wait for pics . You are lucky to get that rhombodium I have had no luck germinating the few seeds I had . rate
Thanks for the patience, my friend!  Jacen said he had a 7/8 germination
rate on his rhombos.  Guess he got some awesome seed!
(p.s. if I ever get pods on this one, I'll send you some seed!)

This little baby will have a good home under lights and in the greenhouse this winter!

Promise - pics shortly
