PaulG 2014

Grow List 2014 - Many new varieties and a few repeaters.
This is the third year of my original three year plan to grow a slew of different
types to see what grows well here before settling on some consistent performers.
I'd love to grow some of the new varieties from this season again, and some more
of my favorites from 2012, but not enough space.  But I have seed for my favorites for
season 2015, so I have something to look forward to already!

Major goal for season 2014 - lay in a good supply of super hot powder!

Looking good.  Heal up and take care Paul!
Thanks, Andy.  I'm making good progress on the healing front!

Nice pod porn Paul! I hope your incision heals cleanly with no complications... did you have them put in the mesh when they did the repair? Glad to hear you haven't been having earth-slips in your area... is it still raining hard?

Hey Paul, looking good.  Are those FRs up above peach colored, or just starting to turn red?  One of my plants is putting out peach pods, which is just fine with me.  Out of respect to Scott, I think we should start calling these something different, maybe Arkansas Reaper (or Arkansas Peach for the peach color).  Last year I thought he and I had the same off-type Reaper, but it's become clear this year that isn't the case.

How much time until Ma Nature says "no mo"?
Hey Scott!  TY, brother!

The last two seasons, we've been good until into November, although those
pods maturing then have more flavor then heat!  The median first frost date
here is usually around mid-October, but we have been good into late November
in my back yard before a real freeze.  With this weather we may just ripen
everything up before it's an issue!

Thanks, Jacen!  Wish I was ready for ya bud.  Hopefully tonight.

Will consider myself bumped until then!

Thank you, Rick!  There is some serious gnarl emerging in the pod world - lots of
coloring up and some awesome stingers.  Will try to get some pix of those up tonight.

Yes, had the 'plug and patch' routine.  Sounds like a football play.

We have had very little rain here - I think the high pressure over the Pacific has
been keeping storms to the north.

Yes, the pods are definitely peach colored  and awesome big and gnarly,
patience will reward ya with a pic if I can get going on them   Its one
I will consider seriously for next year.  I like the idea of a separate name just
to make out easier to talk about them and see how they are doing.

I had to buy four more dryer racks to accommodate the pods.
There are a ton ripening up all over the grow.

Goat's Weed cross hit 10'5" this week!

Bonda x Yellow Seven - Windchicken.  Note the broad shoulders, like a Bonda, but they're bumpy - sort of brainy looking -  and blocky.
And Bird's Eye HTM - Trippa.  Very prolific producer:

Will post more in a bit.

I like what I see Paul, plants are loaded and coloring up.

Great stuff! Glad to read your season lasts until November. All those pods will be harvested by then. ;)

Glad you caught the metering issue before it got bad. I have 3 that I've yet back to 100%.

I'm just sort of serial posting pics.  They go in rough order over the past week-10 days.
Some of the plants are shown twice a couple of days apart.  Sorry.

Thanks, brother!  If the weather keeps on going like it has been,
many of the plants will ripen up all their pods

I guess there's no perfect watering system     :banghead:          I'll keep looking, though!

The c. chacoense - Stc3248, has put on lots of new pods and new growth in the past two weeks.
It, and a few others, seem to like the cooler weather turn:

I have a gob more.

Very nice Paul. I can see you will be snipping many pods soon. More color on those plants then greenery !

I can see the difference in the Charapita and the Wild Brazil............more blisters on the handdby the time you get to the 2nd plant.

I have the same problem with my 2 Charapita's.......sometimes I think that it would be nice to take the whole plant and tenderize ( harvest ) it like an Octopus. Slam it on the table.....and watch all the chili's fall off............

Your  plants are  looking great..........another wonderful backyard garden.

Thanks for the bump, Greg.  At least with the leaves dropping, one can see the pods!

Pretty funny about the Charapitas.  So far, I have found it easier to shake
the plant every couple of days and just pick up the pods that fall off!  The
same for the Wild Brazil.

I need to pull some pods tomorrow.  We're heading to the Ore. coast for
the week on Sunday, then I'm heading to NWCF on Friday.  Will have to
pull more pods on Thursday when I come home

Everything looks great in the PNW!
Hey, Jason, you snuck in while I was responding to Greg!

Not many ripe pods on the PI cross yet, but there are a lot of them.
Does it have a name besides the number?

We are on a roll for sure.  This summer will go down in the books as a great one.
We have at least 10 more days of sunny weather in the latest forecast.

Denniz!!  Good to see you here, buddy!
Thanks for the bump and kind words!

The leaves are looking kind of yellow on quite a few plants, but I'm
not going to do anything we're so close to the end.  I think the steer
manure I put in the containers early last Spring really kept the plants
in good shape.

Plants and pods are a thing of beauty Paul . Looks like you may need to get another dryer with all those pods your hauling in.

Have great weekend and those Brains bring back some fond memories thanks for sharing

Awesome updates, Paul.  I'm glad to see the GWH is growing more or less true to type.  They really are a beautiful pepper.  Yours are not as large as they were for me, unless those Bonda x Yellow 7s in the picture up above are feakin' huge.  (Just noticed the quarter, so yeah, they are a little small compared to last year.)

The 7 Pot Burgundy is an amazingly diverse variety.  Just about every plant I had last year produced something different, peach, caramel, red, and yes, even burgundy pods.  Your pods look longer than I remember, but the color is almost fluorescent.

What's your take on the flavor/aroma/heat profile of the Brown Eggs?  I was looking forward to those this year, but dropped the ball on getting them moved up and out from the germination flat.  Shame on me.

I think I've had an epiphany regarding the wilds.  I find them interesting, but really have a hard time justifying garden space for them.  I was just noticing that there aren't any birds hanging out around my place this afternoon and it occurred to me there isn't anything for them to eat.  (Wild cherries, blackberries, plums, and mulberries are all long gone.)  I think I'll dig some holes along the fence line and try to get some wilds growing there next year.  Then I can look at them, pick a few if I want, but mostly they'll provide something for the birds to eat this time of year.  With luck, they could become self-sowing along the fence.  (Way better than privet.)

Your Peach "Arkansas Reapers" are gorgeous peppers, and apparently very large from what I can tell.  (Again, just noticed the quarter, so yeah, big peppers.)  Mine have essentially the same shape, but I don't think they are quite as large.  I tasted one today and the flavor was remarkably intense, before the heat kicked in and even then, the heat was not overpowering.  Granted I took small bites from the middle and lower part, so I may have missed the surprise, but I thought it was quite mild for a super.  I think new member Wes is posting a video review of one sometime today, maybe in my glog.

Those Romy6 BrainStrains are the quintessential Brain, aren't they?
