PaulG 2020

A couple of random pics from the past week or so.
Most plants now setting at least runty pods. We are
looking at a week of hot days, so there will be lots
of flower drop, I suppose.

Paul, those plants look beautifully manicured. Do you do it just for looks or is there some other benefit?
Thanks, Siv!

Aphids and tough weather took their toll on the
plants this Spring, so I cut off all the funky looking
leaves and tiny stems. What you see is what’s left  ;)

Some of the plants are ridiculously small.

Checking out the Black Pearl, I discovered this
dense clump of flower buds at the top of the
stalk crown. There must be a dozen-and-a-half
buds. Will be interesting to see if the top of the
plant can grow out of this mass of buds:

Flowers definitely producing pollen.

USDA c. cardenasii pods starting to ripen:

Hey, Bryan! I noticed the same thing on some
other branch tips yesterday. Just masses of
buds at the points of forking.

Those Black Pearl flowers look really sharp, Paul.  Will be cool if they end up as a big pod cluster.
I'm hoping for the same for tall the flower clusters
I found yesterday. The plant will have to grow some
wood to hold all the pods up! I'm glad to see your
grow taking off so well, CD!

Great stuff in here, Paul!
That's USDA card..... Eye-bulging and jaw-dropping!!!

Amazing! I might do more wilds next year, since production isn't REALLY my goal.

Tripe thumbs up!!!!
Howdy, Adam. There must be over a hundred pods
on the Cardi. And, like a lot of my wilds, it is starting
to to set a pod at every flower with the recent warmer
weather.  100F predicted for next two days, then a
couple of 90's. Will be busy watering, for sure.

Nice little flowers on the CAP 1141 c. praetermissum:

Other garden fun...

An actual fruit on the Mini Love watermelon:

The Indigo Cherry is hanging trellises all over the
place. Should be a great looking plant when there
are ripe fruit on it:

It seems to me that the c. praetermissum plants really
don’t like direct sun very much. These are CAP 1141,
left, and CGN 22795. You can see some small differences
in growth habit and leaf size. The 22795 grows almost like
a c. pubescens:

Trying out various ways of netting branches without
having the weight of the sack affect the plant:

The c. baccatums have tolerated the recent
high temperatures in pretty good shape, and are
setting a fair number of pods.
