pepperproblem's 2013 grow log.

OK, I hope this is intresting to someone. My 1st attempt to share a season. I have not got the whole list done and I have just starting sowing this week. I have layed out about 300 seeds so far. Maybe another 300 today. At 4-5 days into it, I have a good number of sprouts. 3 types of wilds, some C. chinense, a Rocoto or two, and something else. I will get some pics together to show the grow spaces etc in the next day or so.

Day 2 of the Glog.
California, The Police State

So I am still sowing seeds. I have a 18x18ft spot picked out for about 20-25 of my overwinters.
Some of them

I am near a lagoon and my soil here is sandy and lacking.
kelp0181_zpsea9f962b.jpg

So I make a trip to the beach out front to collect some Seaweed after high tide to start the process of building the soil up.

Here is the fresh stuff being pushed in with the tide.

Along comes State workers to inform me nothing can be removed from the shoreline. No seashells, no kelp, no fishing, no fun.

I do a recon up the coast and score.

Tomorrow, I might live on the edge and do it again. lol

It is Costa Rican Tabasco. I think I sent you a pm a month or so back when you were looking for something close to that.

Gorgeous plant. Hm, I must have prematurely deleted that PM? Sorry about that. Are they juicy like regular tabascos? One of my side projects this year is to find a nice not-juicy frutescens to grow every year.

Yes, they are one of the juicier ones. I will see what else I got.

Oh, thanks... I have a handful growing now... I'd better not attempt any more starts, I've already got 14 more plants than I was originally planning...

Good growing everyone! pp

Well it seems like Spring is here. The Sun is gone. Lows around 50-51, highs around 64. It wil not change much until sometime in June. So I finished off preparing the spot for the overwinters. Still going all organic, but trying some other things on this spot to cut the cost some. Soil tested out at a ph of 6.3. It is in a floodplain so I was happy with the end result.
overwinters0011_zps70cf7601.jpg

Weeded and worked the bags in. Did the layout trying to have some different colors around the edges for aesthetics.
overwinters0021_zps736c4431.jpg

A little pruning.
overwinters0141_zpsb4d8660e.jpg

I think I will stick em in the dirt tomorrow.
Checking on the little ones.

Over 90% have sprouted in the first two trays 10 days in. Have the fan on now, and misting them.
