PIC 1's......Pod Pornage.............2012

Here's the start on my grow log. Well no pods yet but I have to start somewhere, and away we go!

The seeds in the containers are all c.chinense. They were dunked in a germinating solution for an over-nighter on December 1st.
This was the first phase of the germination process with plantings happening every 2 weeks through the month of January.
The annum species and the mild/medium strains will get planted late Jan through early Feb.

Most of these are "Super-hots.

Here's a shot from today, things are looking up and up.

Here's a unique looking seedling. It has 3 cotyledon's and a set of 3 true leaves. The seedling is a Trinidad Scorpion Green, seeds are from Chris (cc). I've seen the triple cotyledon with my Coronong's but not the triple set of true leaves at the same time

Here's another seedling that caught my eye. The leaves are as dark purple as my Dutch.Hot's. This one's the Purple Bhut Jolokia seeds were also from Chris. I know the leaves will eventually turn green.....but right now they look pretty...

Did somebody say "Purple"......Here's one of my overwinters. The Maui Purple. The flowers have set and soon the chili's will form...........yea

And finally another overwinter and was an over-achiever/producer last season. That's why its here. It's's the TS Butch T

Here's a bad one ..............."Hangman"....Surinam Habanero...............lost its leaves

The baby bird is actually called a "Bird's Eye Baby" from Fatalii seeds. It's an ornamental that has culinary uses in the kitchen. You can easily bonchi-grow this type of plant since the leaves and branching are small...

OK enough of the bad plant photos...here's the last of this weekends update...

Greg, those overwinter plants are sure nice. The young-uns are catching up in height, but those trunks on the old fellas are massive. What are your plans for them, just pot-up and grow on?

Going back to their beginning--when you brought them in, did you cut the rootball to just barely fit inside the container, or did you cut it to half that size to allow more growth? Also, did you rinse away the old growing medium prior to coming inside? It seems bug control would be a huge issue for your grow area.

Anyway, thanks again for the weekend pix treat. Can't you do anything wrong?? Even your one scraggly stick plant has a pod! lol.....

Actually Sil, that is was the stubborn one. Greg put it in the middle of the growroom, cut off all its limbs and then told the rest of the plants that he would do the same to them if they didnt grow amazing and healthy. Then, just because he can, he told the beaten wore down stick to grow a pod. It obviously complied.

The T5's are a high output bulb, different ballast output,(more expensive bulb replacement)
Probably the better choice for those looking to use only a few fixtures.
The T8's are the next size up in bulb diameter, next would be the T12's which will be obsolete in the near future.
The T8's are 32w bulbs, I buy packs of ten at a time. I have 100 bulbs total between 4 and 6 bulb fixtures.
The T8's do a nice job, I like the 6500k color temp. That produces a dense amount of foliage.

tomatoes this year. They were out of the shop lights I normally buy. I'll check home depot tomorrow.

HD sells the 6 bulb high bay fixtures for around $80....a box of 10/ 6500k bulbs cost $26 ish. 3 cable,flex adaptor, w/nuts runs about 12 bucks.......install 10 minutes. For around $120 you can have a nice fixture that does the trick.

The leaves are much larger in the room that's running in higher humidity and temperatures. The lower level grow area is much cooler and the soil stays on the damp side. I only need to water maybe once a week sometimes 10 days apart.
How's the "spring skiing" on the slopes?..........I see Europe has had record hits...

The OW's were yanked out of the containers in late October. I trimmed the roots down to a wet 8" ponytail. About the same size stem as rootball. Every bit of soil was rinsed off. Then the plants were dunked into a 5 gal bucket of diluted insecticidal soap. I repotted them into 2 gal clean containers with a fresh lite potting mix. I left the plants in the basement under subdued lighting. Any new growth was pinched back until the last week in November. Then the plants hit the lights. I've pinched back a couple already because of the height. They will get planted into 9 gal containers. We'll see what happens. The 3 yr old J. Scotch Bonnet is a good one. It never gets over 2 ft but grows laterally and gets its support from other plants.........very tasty pods with higher heat than other bonnets.

Sure I can do wrong........lol............I went snowmobiling this weekend and blew this months "TD"......well,.. the Lamb that I bought for the "Sega Wat" dish is going to be on a "shish-ka-bob" tonite..........."Greek" style with alot of garlic and rosemary

The picture directly below your Surinam "gallows pole" Habanero looks like the plants have mounted a coup against your t8 fixtures. "Sunny.... where are you boy?" Chomp chomp chomp.... I have been out of town for 5 days.... Fingers crossed for when I get home. Hoping my plants don't end up like Monsieur Hangman. Have a good week partner.

Not sure this is the 1st time growing it, but it is probably the same.............how many peppers actually turn out white?.most of them are cream color. I've grown a few small habs that stayed white but the later season turned creamish

Thank you SO MUCH, especially if this procedure has been asked and answered before. I know you cover a lot of ground (pun intended) but I believe this 'clean approach to overwintering' should be in the OverWintering Bible, especially for those that have to keep a bug clean house for several months.

Doh, I'm sure they'll let you rest on your laurels after your win last month. It was awersome! That dish sounds excellent. Being in Chicago, you don't realize how hard it might be to find African food or anything Greek style lamb as mentioned here in the hinterlands. I hope to see your vote over there on the Throwdown and a critique....
