PIC 1's......Pod Pornage.............2012

Here's the start on my grow log. Well no pods yet but I have to start somewhere, and away we go!

The seeds in the containers are all c.chinense. They were dunked in a germinating solution for an over-nighter on December 1st.
This was the first phase of the germination process with plantings happening every 2 weeks through the month of January.
The annum species and the mild/medium strains will get planted late Jan through early Feb.

Most of these are "Super-hots.

Here's a shot from today, things are looking up and up.

Here's a unique looking seedling. It has 3 cotyledon's and a set of 3 true leaves. The seedling is a Trinidad Scorpion Green, seeds are from Chris (cc). I've seen the triple cotyledon with my Coronong's but not the triple set of true leaves at the same time

Here's another seedling that caught my eye. The leaves are as dark purple as my Dutch.Hot's. This one's the Purple Bhut Jolokia seeds were also from Chris. I know the leaves will eventually turn green.....but right now they look pretty... :cool:

Did somebody say "Purple"......Here's one of my overwinters. The Maui Purple. The flowers have set and soon the chili's will form...........yea

Awesome, my friend! My Inca Red Drop (Peppermania) is getting the
same shape variation as you show here, and my
Fatali x Savina (Spankycolts) has turned out to be the red variety.
My Congo Trinidad pods look like yours, except red so far.

I have two types of Fat/Sav x...............both from Brian (Justaguy) I also grow yellow and red Fatalii's.........when its all over I'm going to have a Fatalii food fare comparison.............................. :cool:
I have two types of Red Congo's growing....my seeds and some from Gary (Windchicken). Both are slightly different shaped......but as equally tasty!

The first time I had a Chicago Sports pepper was just over a year ago at portillo's when we visited just south of chicago, by joliet. It was wonderful. I never know what the pepper was that they put on the hot dogs in Chicago until later.

Anyway, great pics! Question: my 7Pot yellows look more pimply and with lobes - I've seen Yellow 7's that look like yours and some that look like mine. Do you know what the difference is?

Sport Peppers are the norm on the "Chicago Style" hotdog......always a great addition, I always ask for extra......yum!.......whereas, the Giardinera is the standard for the Italian Beef...

Great question on the Y7...........I don't have solid answer or a rock bottom stomach........but they sure pack a punch. Seriously, My seed sources for those are...
Yellow 7pot/or st (Pepperlover) ...Large Yellow 7 (THSC) ...and I believe I also acquired some seeds in the past from (Fatalii and Semillas la Palma)
The bumpy pods have seemed to appear the last few yrs. I can't tell you if either has more placenta or oils, but they sure have their place in hot sauce making.

Things are picking up in Chi-town! Loving the pics...better be watching the web, someone might snipe those from ya! Hope we're in for some garden shots as well this weekend!

We finally had a good rain, a few garden shots on their way! ...I hear ya, maybe eventually a waterstamp.......

I'm still fascinated by the rotan pumpkins. How do they taste?

Like a big fat juicy habanero............if that explains it....

I guess that is one positive about my bad photography,I'm in no danger of having my pics hijacked.

What are you talking about...........your shots paint some great pictures...
 
Your fatali/savina comparison should be pretty interesting.

Here's a Naga Viper plant. It lost all but few flowers during the heat wave in May/June/July...................lol, But as you can see there is some movement on the plant with many new flowers................"FALL"....harvests........................and away we go!

Out of all my plants , this variety never shows wilt even under the extreme heat and continues spitting out pods. Hawaii's version of the Jalapeno........at least thats how I would compare it........the Hawaiian "Waialua". If you haven't tryed to grow it I would highly recommend it!
Seeds are available through the University of Hawaii's Ag. Dept.

Absolutely amazing! I am definitely considering the Hawaiian "Waialua" after reading your endorsement. So if it is about the same heat as a jalapeno is it just as prolific? With more limited space I tend to stick to the big hitters in terms of production.
 
Lol.............no wax shine here, but I do rinse all pods before bringing them indoors...
The St Martin Hab has a juicy-citrus flavor with some quick lingering heat. The Orange Congo has a mellow heat, good "Bonnet" flav.
We're heading to St Martin/Marteen in Sept. for a week. I'm sure to find a produce mkt or a local that grows some "Hots' in their yard........More seeds!

Greg, those Fatalii Red Savina sound tasty and hot. I really like the Fatali so I can just imagine how it is with some savina fire added to it. The gardens looking beautiful man. do you have different types of mulch down for an effect or is it just teh camera angle and shadow? Which ever it is in the pic there it makes for a nice effect.

I've got some of the most recent seeds from June in some pots. I can see some pods before the end of the season...

Hey "RocketMan"...Bill, One of the area's that is shown has containers on a large paver patio, the other area has containers over 6" of cedar mulch, that location is in the easement the wood chips cover a heavyduty fabric weed barrier. The mulch provides a clean walking path between the pots and the raised beds. If you're referring to the containers themselves. I cover the top layer of soil with a 1" layer of "Dr.Earth" compost,.Its a mix of forest humus and other organic materials...

I had Fatalii/Red Savina (f1) last year and back crossed it with a Fatalii. Will send you a few to try in comparison. Isolated the plant for seed as it has a great flavor at about 85%Fatalii & 15%Red Savina in my opinion. Where as the Fatalli/Red Savina cross(f2) have more Red Savina.
