PIC 1's......Pod Pornage.............2012

Here's the start on my grow log. Well no pods yet but I have to start somewhere, and away we go!

The seeds in the containers are all c.chinense. They were dunked in a germinating solution for an over-nighter on December 1st.
This was the first phase of the germination process with plantings happening every 2 weeks through the month of January.
The annum species and the mild/medium strains will get planted late Jan through early Feb.

Most of these are "Super-hots.

Here's a shot from today, things are looking up and up.

IMG_2132.jpg

Here's a unique looking seedling. It has 3 cotyledon's and a set of 3 true leaves. The seedling is a Trinidad Scorpion Green, seeds are from Chris (cc). I've seen the triple cotyledon with my Coronong's but not the triple set of true leaves at the same time

IMG_2118.jpg

Here's another seedling that caught my eye. The leaves are as dark purple as my Dutch.Hot's. This one's the Purple Bhut Jolokia seeds were also from Chris. I know the leaves will eventually turn green.....but right now they look pretty...

IMG_2136.jpg

Did somebody say "Purple"......Here's one of my overwinters. The Maui Purple. The flowers have set and soon the chili's will form...........yea

IMG_2142.jpg

And finally another overwinter and was an over-achiever/producer last season. That's why its here. It's's the TS Butch T

More to follow, soon

Greg

Thanks Greg. I understand the nutes have been diluted according to the manufacture suggested and residing in the 1-gallon jugs. So how big is the "capful" you put in the 2-gallon watering can? Is the cap like a tablespoon or closer to a cup size used on some soap jugs?

Thanks for the info on the Cal-Mag vs Epsom Salts. Sounds good.

I will also ix-nay on the extended bottom heat tray idea......

Well let's just say a shot glass size......I'm pretty good at pouring those.

Greg

Here's some shots from last night.

T8's are about 2" away from the tops

Here's some red scotch bonnets...courtesy of Jason from the U.K.....cheers

IMG_2471.jpg

a couple of "clavo's"....here's an ex. showing that seeds planted at the same time and depth can emerge at different times.

Finally the top of one of my overwinters...."the Nagabon".......it's dropped a few buds since I moved it under the MH, but its growing like mad...

Greg

Greg, thanks for the detailed info. The early bottom watering fert application was an adventure for me last year, and also foliar spraying. Very helpful tips there.

Wow, what an operation. Beautiful plants getting more beautiful. If I can scale down some of your ideas to my grow size (1/20th?) I'll be rockin.'

Unbelievable! I have purple bhut seeds inbound. I'll be watching yours.

Cool, mine still have the purple leaves and the size of the leaf is pretty large.

Post some photos when yours are running

thanks,
Greg

Ha...thanks Ken,
Mine is just a larger scale of what I use to have. The challange now is to produce the same results if not better. At less cost..(electric, chemicals, Beer....)
Hey it's only winter...thare's plenty of time to be "rockin"

Greg

Just read, and reread the fert section (great questions Sil!), very interesting. I swear, even though I read the thread daily, I can go back a few pages and always learn something new.

Also, what is your dilution for the epsom salts and how often do you feed with them/the calmag specifically? Each feeding with the other group?

Hey, Not much to report on with the "flats" just some seed heads popping through. Here's some more shots of the overwinters.
Most impressive overwintered 7 pot yellow....never seen so many buds on one before.Amazing.

IMG_2148.jpg

Here's a Yellow Mazano "Perrons"....It was cut back to a twig as an expierment. It's moving right along and is starting to branch out.

IMG_2165.jpg

The hairy "Goat's Weed"...grows up in a nice conical shape.

IMG_2164.jpg

A "Douglah" flower.....can't wait!

IMG_2151.jpg

"bam!"... Some buds waiting to explode (Yellow 7/Pot or/st)

Dayummm your Yellow 7 is about to pay the rent! lol Will do on the pics of purple. Still waiting on them and my white bhut seeds.

Hey MGOLD,

I dilute the epsom salts with warm water in a misting bottle (1 tsp to 1 qt water) I spray the top and bottom of the leaves once every 2 wks

The cal/mag is in it's own gallon container diluted with water, I'd have to check the exact amount on the cal bottle to be specfic, but if it were 8oz. per gal, I would 2 oz.

Every time I water which is usually twice a week, I add a shot glass worth of each chemical ( currently using Pro Grow, Cal/Mag, Karma, and Fish Emul)...into a 2gal watering

can which is then filled with warm water...sounds like alot?...Not really, it's most likely a less amount than the people who water once a week. It's nice and easy on the plants,

with absolutely no burn-out or shock to the small or large plants.

I may have said earlier that a 2 gal container will water 3 flats with 18 plants in each...........that works for me and I've done it that way for as long as I've made pizza's.....oh by

the weigh, check out the "pizza throwdown" if you haven't already

thanks
Greg

 Thats alot of plants!!
They all look awesome Greg!

Those guys look like they'll be 3 feet tall by plantout!

:)

Thanks Kevin,

I usually have some that size by plant-out,....they're pretty bushy and can tolerate the spring winds here....I'd shudder at the thought of having to bring out some kind of spindly 3 ft'er that would need a few stakes to hold her up..................ha
Thanks for the comp. and good luck with your start

Greg

Thanks gnslngr
,
The Yellow 7 was a heavy producer last yr. It was over 5ft tall, in a container! I like the taste of that pepper.....fresh

Greg

I think my wife would be happy if it would help pay the electric bill.......... :halo:

I haven't grown the white bhut.....I'm curious on how white or cream color it is...

Nice update Greg. I also read and reread that fert info. Very interesting, I think your way with ferts is one of the most unique ways I've heard of and obviously it is working very well :) Your OW's are going to be absolute monsters this year. Man after reading all the fert stuff you use and thinking about what I still need to buy for plant out and after.. I've realized that I need a new job or a raise. This hobby needs to come with a warning "this will drain your bank account" lol. I keep telling my wife "hunny this is the last thing I need to buy n I'm set!" If I only had a dollar everytime I've said that.. Little does she know it's never ending!

hope all is well with ya.

Thank's Brandon,

When I first started out with this hobby I was dealing with 2-4 ft 2 bulb T12 fixtures used over a ping pong table, clay soil outdoors and nosey neighbors.( Vintage 83')

Not much to start out with but after years of "fine tuning" and product buying, I feel pretty comfortable when it comes to starting this process out every season.

Sun, water and good soil is all that's really needed, but to be on the cutting edge, especially with the short season here (Z6), I opt to use the extra "juice" for my plants

to get them ahead start-up with a strong finish outdoors................can't wait for summer and the long daylight hours...

Your stuff's looking great!

How's the T5's working out in the grow area.....temp's running in the low 80's?

Greg

I can't wait to watch all those babies turn into monsters. I wish I could follow your NPK and watering procedure but I have to water everyday and I think that would still be too much for my plants.

 Jamie

Hey, growers! PIC 1 grows well and apparently has hidden culinary talents. If you normally don't peruse the other forums, be sure to check out the Pizza Throwdown contest and Greg's amazing recipe. He is a contender in a hard fought, but yummy battle of pizza recipes.

If you like peppers on pizza, you will be SO GLAD you read through these amazing recipes. Growing peppers is only the means to an end: PIZZA!

Looking really nice... It seems every year we all go bigger. That's a lot of plants... to care for. that's been my problem at times when we go to the condo for a couple days there usually Ok but every once in a while, a few get too dried out to save.

I hear ya, my daughter was heading back to college this weekend and asked me if a fire could start with the amount of power on. Well no, I've got a 200a service and I rewired the grow area's to handle peak. I do have fire ext.in the grow areas and the entire house is fire/al hard wired. But there's always a chance of a MH bulb blowing, that would be nasty.
I never mist the plants with the "high beams" running. I'm with you, we like to travel and sometime between now and Apr we'll be heading to the islands. Good luck to the person who comes over to feed the cats....I will have info on what and when to water.......haha
I'll probably over- bottom water and cuts the lights back to a quiet 10 hr cycle

Greg

Looking good dude. That flower cluster is thanking you big time!

Thanks man,

close-up shots always have high impact...
Its funny some of the smallest overwinters are just starting to really perk up...I may just hang on to them. I've got 20 plants and I'd like to keep most but the least vigorous will be retired...
