rhm3769's 2014-in the ground!

So I'm setting aside 12 plants to attempt an overwintering.... looking at having 45 plants for 2014....
Plants I'm overwintering, 4 unlabelled supers that didn't produce, pimenta de neyde, purple flash, butch t, two unlabelled ornamentals from ajijoe, another unlabelled ornamental and pequin.
I have 11 varieties I'm waiting on from a sasbe offer here: super chili, aji pineapple, bishops crown, brazilian starfish, 7-pot jonah, datil, chocolate hab, f2 yellow fatali x red savina, and three wilds, c04392, c01225 and tc07246.

I have seeds saved from my last two seasons for orange manzano, rocoto amarillo, an okinawan variety, white habanero, golden habanero, tazmanian habanero, scotch bonnet, jamaican mushroom, yellow fatali, serrano, santa fe grande, aji limon and a few others.... I have to narrow down what I'm growing from my saved seeds....

Raised beds same as last year, about 4'x4', 9 plants per bed.... thinking I'm gonna go back to miracle gro, my first season in 1 gallon containers with miracle gro was better than this last one with fish emulsion and seaweed extract in raised beds....

Ha, its not much of a vacation at 30 with a pregnant wife and a three year old.... add in being in the military....
Ha, its not much of a vacation at 30 with a pregnant wife and a three year old.... add in being in the military....

No idea why that doubled....

Some of the over winters are looking pretty ragged right now, gonna be cutting them back some....
In ground fatalis are starting to ripen again....

So the trade ran out of the 7 pot and aji pineapple seeds.... dropping those and gonna replace them with some of the mixed seed from ajijoe.... unexpected plans for this weekend so I won't get the seeds started until next weekend.

Did some research today on frost dates.... I should be good to plant towards the end of feb....
Got a handful of fatalis still ripening outside, along with a few santa fe grandes and it looks like my serrano and scotch bonnets finally want to produce....
The overwinters, some are putting out new leaves, very yellow.... the only ones in decent shape are those that either didn't have pods or didn't have buds with the exception of the super with a hidden pod when I pulled it.... hoping it survives to at least identify it....

Thanks, you too.... the one pod I tried earlier this fall, I couldn't feel the heat as I sampled another pepper before with almost instant tongue melting heat.... I did pick up on the flavor and the citrusy scent when cutting, it though. ... hoping these ripen together, planning on using them as a orang hab substitute in a sauce.... the bonnets won't do much, too cold at night now.... surprised they're still budding, honestly....

Slowly starting the weeding process in the beds.... have to decide whether to start nee plants or keep the few still in the beds. ...

Good enough.... 70+ degree weather and tons of sun.... in-laws spent WAY too much and the grandchildren were spoiled....

I never get much, if I want something I usually buy it.... but I can't complain....
Hopefully the weather is nice again tomorrow to start more garden and yard work....
Think ill keep the fatali and start the rest fresh.... I really hate having to get rid of the scotch bonnets, but they're not as healthy as the should be, the same with the serrano.... my japanese pepper, I have yet to use any of the pods from it, it is producing like crazy still and I wasn't too crazy about them to begin with.... might take that one out of rotation for 2014 and grow another unknown....

Didn't get anything done yesterday.... will have about an hour or so today after eork before the sun goes down.... and so far, the weekend is wide open....
We find out today if its only one baby or twins, or triplets.... only three months and the wife keeps saying she feels like she did at 7 months....

The best part of the holidays is quality family time.  I'm with you,
the presents don't mean much any more except what we give
to others!  That's the most fun   :)

Good on ya for not getting anything done yesterday!
And I'll bet you are on pins and needles until you have
the dr. appointment.  Hope everything is well for the
ones in the oven!

Thanks.... its only one, still got a bit before we can tell the sex.... hopefully this one takes on my love of hot stuff.... my son goes back and forth, just wants to hold the pods instead of eat them, the wife convinced him they are too hot for him and now he sees all peppers as being hot....

Really liking the fatali, just know I can get more out of a bigger plant, but I'd hate to get rid of one with such a thick stem.... don't want to move it, so I might just bonchi this one and start a new one....

Thanks. Got a bit done today.... a bit of hand tilling and got the germ tray cleaned up.... thinking frequent light tilling will be more beneficial right now to prevent weeds from taking root until I get the fabric ready....

Still waiting on my trades to come in. Mihht be making a substitute for some bell peppers or something for the wife, now....

Was looking at the beds and decided fabric to keep the weeds out is more work than ill knowingly be able to put into them.... I bought grass seed minths ago to make the backyard nice, its still sitting on the shelf in the garage.... ill never get around to properly weeding the beds to lay fabric.... 5 minutes of weeding every few days is easier to manage, even thiugh it means more work in the long run....
Moved some of the plants back outside, some are handling the cooler nights better than they were in the garage.... still have some weeding to do before they go back into the beds....

Trades came in today.... gonna finalize the grow list with an open spot or two for sweet peppers....
Gotta make some headway on the weeding this week so the beds are ready in the next month or so....
