Same Sex Marriage - Now legal in all 50 States

I agree with this sentiment, yet I also believe that love is of paramount importance in this world; in whatever form it takes.  I also believe that being gay is not a 'choice' - it's how you're born.  Denying someone's humanity and the subsequent shelters and benefits that het married people get based on who someone sleeps with is also immoral to me.

The immorality that I see on a daily basis has more to do with greed, intolerance and judging others than love, and more love & understanding needs to be cultivated in this world.  Inclusion and tolerance are great things.  Throw a bunch of love in the mix and there's some real power.

Personally I think the stuff written in holy texts condemning homosexuality has more to do with gays not producing children who then grow up to become more church members than anything else.  Kinda like religious texts prohibiting eating pork - back then pork was very dirty and many people who ate it got sick - so they outlawed it.  America was founded by religious zealots who left England so they could be *more* religious after all, and the legacy that has left us with is a severe problem.  Janet Jackson pops a nip during the superbowl and the entire nation freaks out, yet no one mentions the big tittie models in the beer commercials or the constant ads for viagra.  Hypocrites we...

Barely off topic but gave me way more of a good chuckle than it should have

I'm not trying to start an argument. I just found this interesting, regarding the idea that people are either born straight or born gay...

A San Francisco public high school is offering a LGBT studies course. The first in the nation.
From the article:

"Around 600 students attend the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. Of those, 28 percent identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer, Schlax told CBS San Francisco. In 2014, as part of a wide-rangingsurvey of sexual orientation among American adults, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 3.4 percent of Americans identified as something other than straight1.6 percent identified as gay or lesbian, 0.7 percent identified as bisexual and 1.1 percent identified as something else. A 2012 Gallup poll also found 3.4 percent of adult Americans identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender..."

Almost 1/3 of the student body identifies as L,G,B,T,or Q, yet the national average is only 3.4%. That's a huge difference. Everyone knows San Francisco is the epicenter for all things LGBT. So... that could support one of two theories, or both.

1. Homosexuality is genetic.

2. Homosexuality can be a learned behavior, depending on your surroundings and upbringing. (Not necessarily a conscious 'choice')

I have no idea. I just found that interesting is all...

Straight, gay, black, white: I maintain that people are people. Well, except for Scalia. I'm pretty sure he's just wearing a suit made from human skin to lull us all into complacency.

Edit: With sincere respect, the question of nature vs. nurture is a moot point. After all, the question of what causes those of us who are heterosexual to be as we are doesn't result in disenfranchisement, or for that matter seem to be asked about much.

Much needed population control measures. Though i'm still in favor of strict two child per household limits and genetically engineering children... but to ease into things I say offer a $2500 check to every individual to get spayed or neutered. Service would be provided free of charge and all services would have to be repaid if procedure was reversed.

Crack head desperate for a fix? Bam $2500 in it's pocket and no more breeding.
Dumb college kid needs some beer money? Bam drinking and banging like rabbits but no dumpster babies to be found.

Just a thought from your friendly neighborhood troublemaker

Now, there's your problem right there. I've been going to a math and science school next to an arts one for the past six years, in addition to sharing busses with them. I can confirm two things: 1) School of the Arts is a bit of an oxymoron, because they neither really learn nor teach so I guess a modified gender studies course would fit right in, and 2)Yes, a good chunk of artistic people are gay.

It will be interesting to see how many identify as queer in 5 years.
I bet the numbers will go down substantially after the kids outgrow the fad-of-the-day.

And even if it IS a choice to some minimal degree, who is to say which option is 'moral' or 'correct?'

I have, and have had for decades now, many of the multitudes of kinds of gay friends ...

I've had a straight friend do gay life for a while, and switch back, after a rough patch w/ his ex-wife.

I have a friend who everyone always knew was gay, and is gay.

Two of my LTG were bi, and Danielle's previously dabbled in swinging.

I had a friend, also, who wasn't gay, but liked to dress in drag.

Sarasota had an 'out' gay community in the early days - it's simply not new here.

None of it matters.

The ONLY thing that I can say, is that they are a RELATIVELY scandalous and motley crew of folks, which is a little bit orthogonal to the traditional concept of marriage ...

Time will tell if increased opportunity will urge the tendency to have LTR's ...
