Same Sex Marriage - Now legal in all 50 States

http://religionlaw.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/us-supreme-court-same-sex-marriage.html

Chief Justice Roberts-
"Understand well what this dissent is about: It is not about whether, in my judgment, the institution of marriage should be changed to include same-sex couples. It is instead about whether, in our democratic republic, that decision should rest with the people acting through their elected representatives, or with five lawyers who happen to hold commissions authorizing them to resolve legal disputes according to law."

Bingo.

Some people love their dogs cats and pets more than they do human beings. Maybe the feds should pass a law for those who want to marry their animals and make bestiality legal in all 50 states. Just sayin...........

I def prefer pets to people, but I'd much rather have sex w/ my hand.

What you just said is that gay people are nothing more than animals.

Regardless of your position, these groups will definitely benefit:

Family Lawyers - while it's too soon to tell, statistics show that same sex marriages have about the same divorce rates. Some feel this rate may increase once we have longer marriages and more data. Contentious divorces can easily cost $50K and up for each side. Not to mention all the other family law issues (adoption, parenting rights, spousal support, community property) that will arise. Who wins? The family lawyers.

Creditors - Married in a community property state? Creditors (bill collectors) can attach a spouse's community property to satisfy the debts of the other spouse! This means wage garnishments, bank levies and real property liens against people who didn't owe the debt just because you're married. Who wins? Creditors.

Bankruptcy Attorneys - Do to increased creditor activity, more people will likely need to file bankruptcy. Also, the bankruptcy code allows married couples to file together - which makes it easier and more cost effective. Before they had to file separately, which costs double. Who wins? Bankruptcy attorneys.

Estate planning attorneys will likely see a bump. I'm sure there's lots more, but that's what comes to mind.

Until recently, my wife's insurance through her work would cover a significant other as long as you were gay. If you were straight, you had to be married to receive coverage. I think that was the case for many. Not saying I disagree with that, just saying...

Yeah ... in my house, where I work, and Danielle doesn't ... I had to wait for the ACA before I was able to insure Danielle - because our policy options wouldn't cover a non-married partner ...

I'm just making economic observations. However, many states have "civil union" laws which allow just that. I don't think joint insurance is one of the bigger positives.

Interestingly, I know a recently retired federal judge. She had a same sex partner for decades, and felt the opposite. She thought the negatives outweighed the positives, and was perfectly happy with a civil union. But, not all states had such laws.

ours was similar and worded in a manor that hinted toward same sex but I added my girlfriend on it and we both had to sign a form saying that we was living together for a set amount of time and some other lovey dovey bs
