stc3248, 2013 Grow log, Season's Greetings and Season's End

Well here we go again! Those that saw my grow last year know that I was plagued by virus issues and many other problems, but I was still able to pull off the most amazing grow of my life. By season's end every plant was infected. Some keeled over, but others just kept right on trucking. I learned a ton, and hope to use it to pull off a season without that virus making a repeat appearance. It will be tough. I had huge numbers of pods, and many hit the ground and rotted, so there are sure to be some infected volunteers that show up. My grow this year will be MUCH smaller and focused on the varieties I liked best along with a couple new ones I really wanna try out.

First a couple of my money shots from last year...

I plan to use a similar grow setup to start with...here are a couple pics of how it looked...
P1000224.jpg

P1000226.jpg

My setup evolved as the season began. I started with a single t8 shoplight...the two shoplights and ended up with a single row of CFL's down the center hooked into a 4' power strip the the two shoplights angled in from the sides. The light from the sides really seemed to promote growth at the lower nodes...so for this year...
IMG_0650.jpg

I bought some more CFL's Mix of 100w and 75w equivalents. The 100w eq were around $10 for 4 at HD and the 75w were $3 for 6 at COSTCO!!! Also bought some splitters for the sockets and here's what the power strip looks like now...
IMG_0655.jpg

This thing feels like its giving you a sunburn from 6' away...I alternated 100/75 on each side all the way down...Instead of the mylar I am going with foil sided foam sheathing...
IMG_0660.jpg

My "plan" with this stuff is to make the Shelf unit more of a grow tent type setup. Hoping I can use the lights and a small space heater to maintain a constant temp in the mid 80s. I am also going to "try" to use magnetic tape to attach this stuff so access will be easy. We shall see. May get too warm...but easy enough to vent if need be. I am going to try to keep them indoors much longer this year. I put them out to early last year, and some of the late starts that stayed inside until the night time temps were higher passed many of my early starts that were already in the ground.

My final dilemma is the wife says 20 plants...and I have all these awesome seeds! So I am going to see if the wife's # is sort of like the over the counter dosage...the full prescription strength is double, so I am aiming for 40. I will start almost twice that # though so if you're near SD be watching this glog around plant out, I will be getting rid of some plants...

Pods!Pods!Pods!
Definitely some of the best pod porn on THP.
Those Mystery Goat pods remind me of Inca Red Drop pod photos.  Don't know if an annum and baccatum will cross though. It's a pretty cross though.
Welcome home to THP.

Plants are loaded!
Looks like everything survived your trip away.
Glad the wild brazil survived it's travel across the country! She has been getting water logged, with all this rain i have been getting. I'm sure she will love the weather there!
I was trying to make sure it was there when you got home , but i couldn't have asked for any better timing than that!
Kudos to Ramon too!

I'm really pleased that everything looks so good after your trip!

I know I was suffering withdrawals when I was away...and another trip next week.

Excellent poddage to come home to!
And congrats on the seeds and plant scores! Aint THP grand?

So I guess you really do have the watering dialed in!
I was afraid of over watering and this weekend am letting them dry out and show me signs of a water need.

Now ya have to process those babies, it took me 4 days to catch up.

We're all ready for the followups!

Nice plants STC, very nice.   You got more heat than Mt Kilauea.

Im kinda partial to Fatali's but those Belize City Bonnets are looking Righteous!
Yeah...there is a fair amount of "WTF did I just eat?" type pods out there for sure. The Belize City Bonnets from Greg are freakin D-Licious! I haven't chomped into any of my Fataliis just yet...maybe tonight with dinner!

Watch out .... its harvesting time!!!  Those plants are sure loaded down Shane.  What a homecoming ... bumper crop, new plants, powder and seeds ... nice!!
Yup! The working man's part of the season is upon me! Picking, seeding, prepping, smoking, drying, saucing, powdering...and when in a crunch freezing, but its also time for my favorite part...EATING! Thanks for stopping in Trippa! See you're knee deep in the startup phase of the grow!

Welcome back Brohan, looks like you got some work to do!!
Great to be back! Thanks Matt! I am already falling behind and the big...ish harvests have just begun. I am gonna be in trouble in a month or two once I fill the new chest freezer and start working on filling up mama's freezers again..."See hun, told you we should have bought the LARGE chest freezer!"

Oh man - those look great! Looks like they grew true for you. Awesome!

Those are some wonderful pepper pics you've got going on there. Glad things survived the trip so well.

I'm also happy for your daughter's boyfriend. He was in charge of keeping them alive, right? I can't imagine. Being in charge of my girlfriend's father's peppers while he was gone, and he had lots of guns... Good for him!
She's doing you proud for sure! She lost a limb to the pups while I was gone, but the pods were about done on there anyway, and she has about 5 zillion more branches full...so no biggie! Noah was under strict instruction to NOT take care of the peppers. He watered mama's perdies, but I trusted the peppers/tomatoes to the drip system. If they died I wanted it to be my fault...and I think he respected that!

UGHHHHH...had the whole thing done and my computer rebooted....above was all that was in the "Auto Saved" Grrrrrr....

Here we go again!

Thanks JJJ!!! That's a pretty tall order! This place is a photography showcase! I am fairly certain that Noah (Millworkman) hit the nail on the head with the Mystery ID...Think the mama plant is a Tree Hab. Growth habit, pod shape and taste are all spot on...Daddy was a Goat's Weed for sure. Good to be back for sure!

Thanks GA!!! You da Man! That plant did way better than survive...she came through in perfect shape. May have lost one or two leaves...but I think that may have been due to the lack of light, definitely not your packaging job! You should hold a clinic! She's settling into her new 5# shoes in a shady spot and will be put in her final home tomorrow evening.

Follow ups on the way Scott! THP sure is grand! I actually lost sleep worrying about the plants this trip! Haha...I am certain everyone on here is just a little nuts and a whole lot of OCD! Processing as I type! Dehydrator will be working overtime from here on out...may try to convince mama we need a new (and bigger) one. Hmmmm...I think I may just have to fall way behind on the processing to prove that point! That may get me an even bigger freezer too!!! :shh:

While I was cutting and seeding mama whipped up some Parmesan Crusted Tomatoes...mmmmm. They were fantastic! Halved, dusted with Parmesan Cheese, cheddar, onion and garlic powders, salt and pepper... and into the oven at 350 for about 15-20 minutes.

I got three trays full of Romy's Mystery and Goat's Weeds and one tray of  Yellow Brain Strains into the dehydrator. I think I will try some smoked/fermented sauce with some of the others...time to read up on RM and Matt's glogs to get the chemistry right! Thanks for checking in everyone!
Shane

Looking amazing as always Shane! You've got some serious poddage on your hands. I see a packed freezer in your future. Those freakish monster infinities look like jellyfish. Bet those bad boys pack some sting too.

From just looking at the plants, I was going to say that your charapitas looked exactly like my wild brazils, but seeing the close up of the ones you picked, yours are a little more saucer shaped, and mine more corn kernel shaped. The plants grow patterns are very similar, though, and prolificity, if that is a word. :)

Great looking money shots Shane, I hope you're cleaning out the chest freezers of last year's pods to make room for this year's... Some of the varieties like the yellow 7 look huge, not just well-grown!

Bummer about the not OSU Blue... the 'maters pictured look more like a green-shouldered variety like Cherokee Purple or Black Tula. Cheers!

I'm with Stickman on the maters,   looks like Cherokee Purple to me.    I grew those the last 2 years.
