Nice frost-free set up Shane! That's a money idea! My dad decided to donate 5 boxes of xmas lights he doesn't use to us last winter.. I might finally have some use for those this year :D Great video as well. 70-80s to 30s? Wow. Crazy how the day/night temps can be so different for you guys, Our day temps at this time of year are 10-12 above night temps. Your GH plants are sure lovin it in there. The few you mentioned that aren't doin so hot in the ground should bounce back for ya, don't give up yet! Seeing all your plants chillin' outside in the cali sunshine puts a smile on my face.. then I walk into my kitchen, look out the window to see heavy winds and hail storms and realize it's also musical flat-thirty.. Then the smile suddenly goes away  Lookin good dude! Glad things are going well for ya!

I never give up on anything...I would actually dig them up even though I have extras and move them back in the greenhouse or indoors under the lights before I let them die. Already done it and got the aphids inside to prove it!
I have another big pot up this weekend for about 2/3 of the indoor plants...we have a surprise 4 day weekend from work! Woot! So stand by for over-updating folks!!!

Great day today...ended up having to work a bit so it started on a downer, but came home in time to finally get a good look at my outside plants. First 2 Supers are budding out baby!!! Found buds on my Red Bhut and Red 7 pot!!! First of the chinenses are 2 supers!!! Came inside and during a routine aphid inspection I found another nice surprise Wild Brazil has some buds as well!!! So the chinenses are starting to wake up! I also found buds on the (not) Scotch Bonnet, Fish, and Goccia D'Oro!!! Had to run to my daughter softball game so didn't get to snap any pics of the outdoor plants, but here are a few of my indoors...

P1000543.jpg

Family Photo...These guys are getting potted up tomorrow. I may end up rigging another grow shelf for the ones that get potted up, they are just doing so well in here.

P1000548.jpg

Left to right. Wild Brazil, Tepin #15, and Aji Omnicolor.

P1000550.jpg

Whit Bhut, Chocolate Bhut, Devils Tongue Brown. The Chocolate Bhut is in a 4"x4" the others in 3"x3"

P1000551.jpg

Here is another of the Tepin...thinking of putting this one in a hanging basket first year. Looks like it will do well and look pretty cool in one. Top center of the plant you can see a bud looped up and back. Try for some closeups of the buds tomorrow.

I finally cut the roots from the Yellow Bhut Scion on the Bhut Fatalii graft attempt yesterday, and it is still doing great! Only thing is I think the graft process killed the nodes on the Fatalii host. I am hoping one I can start to generate some growth on the scion I can force the Fatalii to put on some growth as well.
P1000545.jpg

I lightened up the soil mix on this one. Was staying a little to damp, so I repotted and added some perlite. This dude was able to handle the lights right out of the gate! I give this guy about a 70% chance of success, however it may just end up being a yellow bhut with Fatalii roots...which wont be as cool as planned.

Finally the Lanternapeno aka Frankenpepper...still hanging in there and actually starting to show a little growth again on the scion. The Cotys curled a bit and the leaves discolored slightly after I cut the roots loose, but its hanging in there and finally starting to push the little leaves out again. Still only give this guy a 50/50 shot of success, but its looking better every day. Started giving it a little light. Tried a 5000k bulb and it didn't like that at all, so I switched to a small 2700 k for now. Will bump it up in up in a few days.
P1000546.jpg

Looking a little beat up, but I would too if you cut my head off and duct taped it to someone else's midsection! Newest leaf looks nice and green...very promising. This guy is relying solely on what the host is providing it. Its been what 4 days???

P1000547.jpg

Here it is soaking up some rays!

Thanks for looking folks! I will post photo evidence of the outdoor stuff tomorrow. Just a warning, the recent cold spell has them looking a little beat up, but pushing out buds just the same!

Shane

Too funny!

I took the plunge and made the big pinch... Its looking good. But so is yours!! Hoping mine makes it to four days. ~36 hours so far.

How long did you leave yours in the dark for?

2 days...ish. I tried giving them some light after about 36 hours...but the lanternapeno didn't like it and let me know, so back in the cabinet it went. Left in in there for another day, then switched to the 2700k bulb and it took light well all day today. Another couple days and I'll try the 5000k bulb again. The Fatalii/Yellow bhut went straight under the lights after just overnight, and didn't wilt at all??? I really hope the fatalii host decides to put out some growth. I really have no use for just another yellow bhut...Didn't update the Peruvian White Hab/Pequin graft...too early to tell on that little dude, Some of my problems are the plants I'm choosing aren't the healthiest ones.

See you changed your thread name and I am headed over to check your progress!

hmm I wonder if it has to do with the amount of life its able to draw from the host?

Sufficient amounts, and its like losing any other leaf/branch/etc... Damaging but not normally deadly.

If it does work out to be just another Yellow Bhut, graft something else yellow onto it... At a minimum you could have a cool chimera.

You had mentioned forcing growth... The only thing I could figure was you mean to give it N rich fertilizer?

Mainly just focusing light on the area I want growth/pruning and pinching on the bhut to see if it will push out some green on the host. I think there is one more set of nodes below the graft, but I will have to wait 'till I cut the tape off, which wont be for at least a month. I will also keep it inside for a while where I have the most control over the growing environment. I may even try laying the planter on its side and pulling down the scion so they are hanging below the fatalii nodes. I think I still see some green poking out on one node...hard to tell. Growth is really slow on both grafts. Hoping they will take off soon.

Shane,
Your grafts are looking good, new growth is promising. The Tepin would work out well in a hanging basket, I've done that in the past with some "Maui Purples", with a little training the plants will cascade over the sides. I mixed the plants up in 22" basket with "Dracena" in the center and a combo of minature "Yellow Wave Petunia's" and cascading "White Bicopa"....always an eye-catcher.........and a seller!

Hey your indoors plants are really getting huge, you'll have tons of pods this season.
Fat tire............nice. I had a few of those last night. Congrats on the buds on the Red/7 and the Bhut .......photos, appreciated........hehe

later,
Greg

Thanks Greg!
Been a little reluctant to take pics of the outdoor plants because of how beat up they are with the weather/pests. They are still growing like crazy in the GH but some of the in ground plants are lagging a bit. First time Growing peppers in ground in this house/location so its a learning experience. We used to be right on the coast and the nights were much milder than up here. They're still looking good, and warmer nights are in the forecast.

Here are a few more of my indoor plants...start out with the bad.
P1000553.jpg

Moving the plants in and out has its dangers as you always point out Greg, and here are a few examples. Every time I think I have them eradicated I find something like this, ughhh. I am thinking this Bell Pepper was their mother ship. I had been spotting 1's and 2's on the other plants and finally got around to pulling out each tray and doing a close inspection. I beat them all back again...but I am sure that's not the last of them.

P1000559.jpg

These are the ones getting some new size 6 shoes today.

P1000560.jpg

The sky scrapers are the Fish Peppers...no variegation yet. Hope that changes when I get them some sunshine.

P1000554.jpg

I really need to figure out the white balance on this camera...these plants are really dark green, with the new growth a little lighter. Some of these guys are getting 6" shoes today as well.

Here's an update on the soil I built using the Kellogg Patio Plus organic stuff as a base. I screened out the big wood chunks and screened in some compost at around 50/50 then added peat and perlite 'till it tasted just right. Vs MG Moisture Control straight out of the bag. Both Manzanos sprouted and same day.
P1000555.jpg

On the left is My Mix Rt is MG MC

P1000556.jpg

MG MC has a slight height advantage but the leaf count is identical...still too early to call this race.

Once the sun is out I will update a few of my outdoor plants including proof of the super buds...I know, no pics it didn't happen.
Shane

Wow, Shane, I just love lookin' at your stuff! The pot-ups and starts
look fabulous. You give me new ideas every time I visit. Thanks for
taking the time to share all this cool pepper lore. I may not have time
to look at your next update if you have a four day weekend to put one up!
Keep the faith, bro!

Nice shots Shane,
Its probably not your white balance, the nuetral tones in the photos look fine. The flash on the camera is bombarding light onto a dark subject (your emerald green plants) and the photo is over exposed. I can tell those leaves are very dark.
I can't take any useable photos of my plants under the Matal Halides. The leaves are so shiney and contrasty looking in the photos that theres no justice being done. That's why I remove some plants out to a different location under some modest lighting......with the flash turned off, it gives the plants a more natural look.
Man I hate the thought of aphids, my fingers are crossed that none appear, I need 3 more weeks to start moving some plants out to the cold frames. I've seen a few white flies scooting around all of a sudden.
Over the weekend I inspect the plants and water the ones that need it. Its a long process, but it only takes 1 plant to host a "crowd" and with adjoining branches touching the pests can swing from plant to plant...
And besides it feels pretty good to find some small peppers appearing that weren't there last week.
Your glogs getting alot of views...and why not it one of the best here!

Greg

First project today was converting this old container into a planter...
P1000561.jpg

Then screening my compost and amending it with peat and perlite looked like this once finished...
P1000563.jpg

Then the first four pot ups of the day...Aji Omnicolor, Wild Brazil, Tepin, and Fish into the new container/soil!
P1000564.jpg

P1000566.jpg

I took a few pics of the buds on the Red 7 and Red Bhut, but they were not great, so I'll try again later...so back to potting them up!

Looks good. Recycling at its best.

I love being able to re-use stuff in unconventional ways.. I have a Coke cooler sales display that was being tossed by a local theme park (well in between side show, and theme park). I am planning to use it for a planter for my graft experiment :). I just need to get to homie depot and pick up some more dirt.

Good luck on the bugs.

Also nice looking roots :)

Looks good. Recycling at its best.

I have a bunch more of these...problem is it takes a TON of soil to fill this thing.

These guys all got bigger shoes today too...
P1000571.jpg

If (when) that Tepin outgrows the hanging basket I'll put it in the ground.

As always, just great, Shane. Love those pot-ups. They look so
healthy it's incredible. It must be the christmas lights! the planter
is cool, too. Should look just like one giant bush in there by the
end of the summer! Your grow log is muy bueno, man, one of my
favorite places to visit!

Finally figured out this aphid thing...after a thorough spraying with neem...carefully inspect each leaf on every plant and gently remove the tiny aphids and make sure they're dead. This is accomplished by firmly rolling each one between your index finger and thumb until they pop.

Now you get recycler points too.....I like that idea-I have to screen the bottoms of my planters becuase of critters-I have 2 35 gallon containers that are basically aphid ranches right now - or I should say they were, my cousin provided for forward combat controller WMD application :flamethrower: :fireball:
Looking good...I see lots of powders in your future!!!!!

How are the grafts looking?
Think I killed 'em all...Don't know what hit them, but all of the sudden all 3 started to shrivel up??? Now they look terrible. Hanging on by a thread.

Yeah...my khale and snapdraggon plants are freaking covered. 'Bout to go hit them with Bug B gone.

Here is a pic of my Red Bhut buds...the Red 7 buds are still to tiny for the autofocus to pic up...next weekend. During my aphid inspection I found buds on my fatalii too! Getting anxious, wish I could get rid of these freaking bugs, but other than making the plants a little ugly they haven't really slowed them down.

Here is a group photo of the container plants.
