What's up Shane! Nice pic edit. The pepper pics are awesome, nice work! Still no flowering on mine just yet so a little jealous of yours :(. This WA weather isn't helping me either (freaking rain, and only on my days off).
Your only gone for a few and you brought your babies   That's commitment there! :) I missed on what kind of lights your using on those though?
Good luck in the barrocks with them
Aaron

Love the photo edited pics!!! Very nice!

Also, think it's pretty funny that you took pepper babies with you. A sign of serious addiction issues, LOL!
Thanks! Of all my "issues" pepper addiction is the least of my (or society's) worries. :hell:

He may have a pepper Jones, but I think we all have to hold our hands up to that one too... :onfire:
HI, my name is Stickman, and I haven't had chiles in 4 hours...
Lol...I do think I need a support group.

LOL your wife so fed up with your peppers that you have to sneak them under your desk?

I can see it now.. your wife will be like "uhh... Honey... whats the glow under your desk" "Uhm... Top Secret, experimental, can't-tell-you-cuz-I'd-have-to-kill-you government stuff... You understand right?"

lol, missed the part where you are in the barracks.

that is funny too :P
Yeah...no tv in my room, so I will just drink beer and watch the peppers grow!

Thanks Aaron! All I did to the pics was add the border and watermark with the exception of the last one. I tried some weird canvas thing on that...don't like it won't be doing that again. Sucks about the weather, but that's a price you pay in the Northwest. I brought those peppers for a couple reasons. I am going to be spending the weekdays here and the weekends at home for the next month, and they can go a couple days without water, but 5 would not be good. They are the only ones I have left in the 3.5" pots so they need special attention. Plus, it gives me at least a little of my pepper fix each day.

Thanks for looking in everybody!
Shane

Looking good. I wish I could grow manzano's. I tried one time and it did not like the humid
weather here. I guess they must like drier conditions. Maybe I will try again next year.

They like it dry? Dawg, I knew I should've added them to my growlist this year!

(Current humidity 11%. Avg. annual precipitation 12")

They like the cool nighttime temps we've been having. Not too sure humidity is a big factor. They also like altitude, so they should do well in Colorado

Well I got the seeds today Shane. You are way too kind. After reading what Lina said( roper2008) I am curious too see how they grow here in the swamp. I will keep you posted.

Thank you bro!!

Hey, Shane, cool pics of the small pods forming; your plants are looking good as always.
The manzano looks great with its branching growth habit, too. Sorry to hear you're confined
to barracks; almost as bad as 200 miles of commute every day! Nice of the peppers to come
along to keep you company!

LOVE the pic edits Shane, you should do more of those! :D
Thanks Melissa! I tried some before, they are fun but very time consuming. I will be doing more once I get some good pod pics...plus I got home and realized that I left the good camera at the barracks! Grrrrr, oh well I'll have to bust out the old one over the weekend.

No problem man, least I could do! I have more than I need, and it's small potatoes compared to what you did for me! I think they'll do really well for you during the fall, winter and early spring. They'll shut down during the summer. If you started some now I think you might be taking some nice Manzano pics this time next year!

Back home now...The peppers are growing slow but sure! The little ones kept me good company for a few days. I'll be back in the barracks next week too, don't know if I am going to put them in the ground early or take them back up there???

Well time for another pod review! Fernando (SocalChilehead) sent me a couple pods to try out...first one up was a Cayenne Thick. Shout out to SilverSurfer as well because he supplied the seeds. The pepper had surprising heft for a Cayenne. Very thick not only size wise but the walls as well. Looked almost evil. Kind of like the veloceraptor claw from Jurassic Park. Haven't seen many people do video reviews of annuums, but what the hay! Here goes:

5 minutes after the taste test...+ a garden tour. I know its a little long, but trying to get through most of the plants takes some time! lol Mis-spoke on the last plant in the first row along the house. Its not a bhut its a scorpion. Enjoy!
I think annuums are underrated. This thing was pretty damn hot! Not as hot as the supers, but the annuum burn is so much different than the chinense's hits hard and fast, then its gone. The flavor was absolutely amazing! Definitely going to add this one to my list for next year. Such a sweet pepper. Not fruity sweet, but pepper sweet. Seems as though these might have to be sliced up to dry well unlike other cayennes, but a dozen of these would probably make more powder than 3 dozen of the long thin cayennes I have going. I could eat these right off the bush...and get hiccups every time. Funny how this one gave them to me, but the yellow cardi scorpion didn't???
I have a follow on video loading now...will post it tomorrow.

Thanks for checking in everyone!
Shane

Awesome review Shane it going to be one of my overwinters for next year I will send you the seeds sorry I didn't insert them in with the pods I thought I did, but I also enjoyed the sweet flavor and heat level is enough to enjoy a meal without dying or running around looking for milk. Actually I think JC sent Paul some powder for a different cayenne, but once I get more and make into a powder I will send some out. Thanks again for the review finally I am getting flowers to set pods, so more are going to be heading your way soon.

I can tell the kind of guy you are by the fact that you are apologizing for ONLY sending me pods! Lol...way too generous my man! That thing was freaking delicious! Hot enough for anyone, but not ridiculous either. You could even stuff those things! Never thought of that before! Cayenne poppers...mmmmm!

That's also my experience with the Korean Annuums grown for drying. Especially if you leave in the placentas and seeds when you flake/grind them up after drying. My first batch of kimchi last fall was made entirely with peppers I grew, and the taste was amazing! The ratio of pepper to cabbage is one cup of gochu garu (pepper) to five pounds of napa cabbage and it had real authority!

Sounds delicious Stickman! I really like my annuums for their flavor and tolerable heat levels. You can build sauces and powders that anyone can enjoy without melting their faces off.

I edited the above post with the "after" video plus garden tour.

Sweet review and i love the garden tours! Thats a rediculous cayenne! freakin Huge!!
Thanks man! Nice to know they're appreciated. They take a ton of time to upload...

Score today at the farmers market! Sorry for the crappy pic quality...had to use the old camera since I left the good one at work.
SD530817.jpg

Nice little basket of red/yellow Manzanos. I didn't have any seeds for the reds, so I bough a basket $2. Not bad! I got 90 seeds out of the open pod. Didn't count the rest, but from the 6 reds I estimate 400 seeds give or take a few.

Didn't waste any time at all...
SD530818.jpg

into the smoker they go...trying to decide whether or not to start a few of these and the Peruvian Aji seeds that Paul sent...hmmmm. Might wait 'till fall and get an early start on a couple for overwinter so they may produce early next spring....

Our farmer's market's only run through the summer months, but I don't remember them having anything as unusual as Manzanos. Mostly just NuMex types, jalapenos, bells, maybe some serranos, cayennes or habs. I'll be looking for them this year though!

Where is the finished pick  I want some manzano powder
Done in the smoker...in the dehydrator. I'll send a little out on Monday...

Ours is Saturday year round...and during summer they hold it on Wednesday's as well. First time they've had anything but Bells/Jals there. Was real surprised to see Red Manzanos! They had a ton still green, they're pretty mild when green...the ones I got are FREAKING HOT!!! :flamethrower: :fire:

Nice review on that cayenne. I actually just picked some of those up from my local nursery. I'll let you know how they grow. I also tried a brain strain myself. First time that a pepper made my face feel fuzzy like when your leg falls asleep.

My sense of taste didn't come back for a couple days...lol.

So, 9 Manzanos were in that little basket from the farmers market 6 red 3 yellow...after smoking and dehydrating they were reduced to this...
SD530861.jpg

Kinda looks like overdone french fried onions...

Into the food processor and all 9 peppers are reduced to...
SD530863.jpg

Yup...they're all in there! Lol, Kind of depressing. This batch of Manzanos were a little hotter than the usual store bought pods I get. So that's a bonus!

Since the smoker was up and running...
SD530857.jpg

Mmmmmmm....

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
