Great update shane! That powder is gonna be magic! I love the flavor a smoked Jal adds to anything! Are all the stems are your pablano plant then? Mine is loading up with buds and if half of them pod out i think the whole plant would just fall over!
The Poblano stems are thin compared to the size of the plant...especially considering the size pods which are about to be all over them. I pinched off about 10 small pods a month ago when the cold spell hit and they really took off and are loading up. Pics below.

I'm loving the fresh manzanos that I have been able to buy recently - how does the powder compare? I'm going to have to keep in mind your jalapeno mayo trick.
My favorite powder by far. Good ripe Manzanos have such a unique flavor and heat, and it carries into the powder. Nice HOT long burn. Sometimes I add other stuff to it like dried Jalapeno placenta leftover from poppers, and my last batch I added one of the yellow 7 pods for some extra heat. Greatest thing about the Manzanos is it doesn't take a ton of pods to make a good amount of powder. The smoked Jalapeno in mayo is so fantastic my 11yo son won't eat a sandwich if we don't have any!

Btw. My wife loved the powders. We threw it on some spam the next day. Then on our way home she kept bugging where I put the ziplock full of your goodies. We went to pick up a couple aerogardens from craigslist. And she was craving go put some on her pringles. Went to the back to look to no avail. When we went to the store. I nearly threw her outta the car and flipped to see the aero fall on the manzano and GOC. They're fine. Couple leaves lost. Will update you with pods. Anyways. Great pod pics. Wish we had time to look in the back like I planned to. Btw. Where you at the Oceanside pier today. I swore I saw you there.

Really wish I had more to give you...I have a feeling all three of the bhuts and the red 7 that I sold will be dead in two weeks. I know the guy, and he's wanted bhuts or supers forever. Wish I'd have sent them with you for free, then I know they'd have survived! Glad you enjoyed the powder. I really like making it.

Shane, I bet that powder will be absolutely delicious. Loving the pod pics, keep them flowing! You're battling rats while I'm battling rabbits. While they aren't paying attention to my pepper plants yet, it's only a matter of time. Problem is, I believe they are getting in from under my gate, so I there's not really a good way to block them from that. Also got a few nibble marks on some leaves from what appears to be a caterpillar. Haven't found the bugger yet.

Your plants looks like they are rebounding nicely. Keep up the good work!
The plants are really doing well...still have to look past a little bit of ugly to see it, but its there. My trap works equally well with rabbits. No rats caught in 2 nights! Moved the trap back to the other end of the yard this morning...nothing yet, we'll see in the morning. A cutworm as mentioned or slugs would be my bet for your pest. I found 3 slugs feeding on one of my Bishop's Crowns this afternoon. Ughhhh.

Here is a little update...

Things are looking up in spite of the prediction of sunny and warm turning out hazy and cool today. They are all really starting to find their stride. The in ground plants are starting to catch up or pass the containers. Won't be long.

Thanks for looking in and all the kind comments everyone. They're all much appreciated...Oh, almost forgot I got a care package ffom Paul G today that I wasn't expecting! Nice little batch of Aji seeds from their homeland Peru! The garden is so full...but I feel almost obligated! I'll probably put a couple in the ground and if they go they go!

Shane

Went out to check in on the garden this morning...found two large branches broken off one of my bell peppers. Grrrrr, dogs trying to get through the fence. They also destroyed a small section of the weed cloth. At least It was a bell and not my only Brain Strain or Infinity! Here are a couple non-pepper pics from yesterday as well...

Royal Burgundy Bush Bean in the Topsey Turvey...didn't like these planters for my tomatoes or peppers last year, but I may like it with the beans???

P1010238.jpg

Hyacinth Beans...these were ravaged by the fungus gnat larvae as you can see on the coty leaves toward the bottom. Slow growers, but pics don't do these guys justice...amazingly beautiful plants...bright pink undersides to the leaves with really cool contrast with the olive leaves and purple veins. The bean on the right is an Anasazi Bush bean...Grown by the Anasazi a cliff dwelling people of the Southwest. It is claimed that some of these beans were found in a clay pot that had been sealed 1500 years ago...and they still germinated. Thanks to Pash for the seeds of these two cool plant as well as some Mandan Parching Corn another Native American Heirloom which I am growing out in a small section of the garden dedicated to Native American Heritage. More about the Anasazi Beans as well as the Mandan Corn can be found here.

Finished up the powder late last night...and MMmmmm...perfect!

Thanks for looking in folks!

I almost grew Manzanos this year, and seeing your picture of the ones going in the dehydrator really makes me wish I had!!! So are you adding other seasonings to the powder? You wingin' it, or following some sort of recipe? I haven't tried creating any blends yet, just straight peppers. I'm afraid I'll ruin them, by not adding the right combination of stuff to them.

Yummy powder Shane. :P
And your plants are loving the warmer weather I see
They sure are! We've had two straight days of cool temps and clouds (weatherman called for sun!)...but the temps at night are still holding above average, so they're still kicking! Pods are starting to set on more of the plants too!!!

They take a long time to produce, but should overwinter in the ground here no problem...as far as my cooking goes I'm a dash of this and a pinch of that kinda cook??? I add onion/garlic powders to taste then usually some seasoning salt, but sometimes just sea salt...These manzanos I am buying from a Mexican market near my office. Can't wait to have some of my own! I have flowers opening on both my plants.

Looks awesome Shane and very tasty powder
Thanks Socal! It is my absolute favorite. Tested it this morning on a turkey, egg and cheese bagel. Added a touch of the fresh chipotle mayo as well. I'm gonna get so fat this Summer!

Thanks for all the great comments guys, actually gotta go to work for a bit :tear:

The Purple Hyacinth bean plants are real beauties-he 's not kidding about the pics not doing them justice...that pic is TERRIBLE,.....  heeehaaaww! That will be a beauty-they grow like weeds down here(not like weed in Humbolt  , but close!).Pretty cool having the Native section....now ...peppers.

The stemage is lookin brutal on some of those babies-Hooyah!....and nothing leggy about your Choc Bhut, its gonna be a beast-they are some vigorous beasties, and hot like "nobodies" business!Glad to see the pest control is kickin in, the only thing worse than no peppers is no fruit on the tomatoes!

Hey, Shane, your grow log is awesome as always. The sunshine has
had some magical effect on your plants! Man, I miss grow logs for a
few days and look what happens. A whole epic tale of rodent wars
has taken place here, and JCR's country is on fire. I'm glad you seem
to have solved the rat problem; shame to have to take time away from
your peppers to chase 'em down!

Enjoyed your pics of the pepper plants a lot - gives me hope that a few
weeks of sunshine will have the same magical effect on the plants in
my yard! Keep up the great glogging and get a start on those grafts!

I was bored...gotta say goodbye to my plants for a few days. Ughhh...I know they'll be fine, but my day just isn't complete without a thorough inspection of each plant. Think I'll come back to a few new open flowers though.

Joining the wolf pack
Manzano and bishops crown in their new homes.

I miss them so much! lol. They look happy in their new homes. The Goccia D'Oro is probably ready for some new shoes too! I personally would just put the Caribbean Red in the ground. My in ground Habs are all doing better than the ones I have in containers.

Thanks for the photo update! Hope they do well for you,
Shane

im sure you willl...great looking plants with pods.. family and i should do anotther random trip this weekend.. hahaha might be ready by then... you should put the stc name across the photo.. so HIRT doesnt use it .. or other companies... hows the chaos there in OCEANSIDE with the SEAU fiasco?

as for the GDO.... it will be in a new home tomorrow... lawn mower guy came and you know allergies... had to go back in... plus also spend time with the family.. little one had her 1st biopsy on her arm today.. (long story) but it will.. Carib will be in ground by noon...

question.. when you dig and transplant on the ground do you put like garden soi/mix l or just use native soil?? will also be doing more transplanting.. next year im gonna do what SAK59 does... transplant them to their long term home rather than doing all these transfers... hopefully we'll live past DEC so the ones i sow in NOV will live past

i know you miss your plants.. and again.. i cannot say THANK YOU enough.. btw hows them bhuts and 7 you sold...

btw wife added your mix to PRINGLES...... lol.. and gave some to my 12 yr old neice who also loved it

I dig the hole at least a foot across and a foot deep. I then amend the soil with a few handfuls of peat moss about a tsp of blood meal, half scoop of bone meal and about 1/4 cup espoma soil acidifier then mix with enough soil to bring it up to where the rootball will be. I mix a little peat with the rest of the soil and fill in around the plant. then top dress with a little more peat moss. My PH is on the high side of good for peppers around 7 or 7.5 depending on the spot in the garden. The peat and espoma bring it down to 6 or 6.5. I feed 1/2 strength fish ferts every Saturday. Seems to be working for me. You should really get a soil analysis done and go from there. Just remember they will recommend a higher ph than is right for peppers.

Cool photos! That Manzano is just a hairy bastage isnt it!
Fuzzy pubes...just like a 70's Porno! Not that I've ever seen one of those... :liar:

What is the right ph for peppers? I add wood ashes to my soil to counter low K and usually run about 6.7 to 7.0
You're good in that range...I think between 6 and 7 is optimal.

Well I am stuck in a barracks for the next few days...and when you can't be with your garden, why not bring a little of your garden with you!

Set this up under my desk...3 Scotch Bonnets, 2 each Explosive Ember and Tri-Colored Variegata
Sorry for the crappy cell pic, all I got for now.

Love the photo edited pics!!! Very nice!

Also, think it's pretty funny that you took pepper babies with you. A sign of serious addiction issues, LOL!

He may have a pepper Jones, but I think we all have to hold our hands up to that one too... :onfire:
HI, my name is Stickman, and I haven't had chiles in 4 hours...

LOL your wife so fed up with your peppers that you have to sneak them under your desk?

I can see it now.. your wife will be like "uhh... Honey... whats the glow under your desk" "Uhm... Top Secret, experimental, can't-tell-you-cuz-I'd-have-to-kill-you government stuff... You understand right?"

lol, missed the part where you are in the barracks.

that is funny too :P
