Not a lot of new news around here...wish my chinenses would start to get it going! Like watching paint dry...for 4 months!!! Lotta great stuff out there, and all doing well, so really can't complain too much. My annuums are all just going off right now. All setting TONS of pods...By next weekend I should start to have some interesting stuff to show...almost all my chinenses are real close now. Will only get worse once they actually set pods...then I gotta watch them ripen forever. Lol....Hope you all enjoyed the edits.

Back to the salt mines tomorrow...ughhh.
Shane

Great lookin photos Shane, I especially like the Mucho Nacho one. I think that the fence looks "rustic" and it really makes that photo. Anyways, hopefully I can start bustin out my Nikon in a few weeks for some pix, now that I have them int he ground, I am kinda gettin antsy!

Nice shots bro. Your Thai ornamentals look way different than mine. I almost bought a mucho nacho plant last week. I have no room for 1/2 of what I am growing. What is the heat like on those?

Those were taken with a 5 year old Samsung Digimax D53...lol. "Rustic" is one word for that fence... dilapidated would be more accurate though. I know the antsy feeling brother. This weekend should have some new flower pics...and maybe the following weekend some nice baby pods if I'm lucky!

Thanks Prod! I have three types of ornamentals that are offshoots of thai peppers...they were only labeled "ornamental pepper." The Mucho Nachos have been very impressive as far as growth and production goes. I have only pulled one round of pods, and I pulled them early because we were about to have a cold snap. Flavor was really good, but heat wasn't great. I am going to wait until this round it RIPE before I pull them and see if the heat level is any better. They claim to be "hotter" than normal Jals...but my plants with small Jals are twice as hot...even when immature. I'll post a review once I have a few that have ripened red.

Man your plants are lookin awesome and i like the photo edits. So what do you do with all your ornamentals? you seem to have quit a few of them.

haha I see you included a windmill pic! mine is still hanging in there as well. It was blown over again... The thing keeps getting shorter, the feet rusted off the bottom, along with the first rail, so its been re-planted and is slightly shorter... but it works. lol

Thanks! I think I have 10 established plants, and about 30 seedlings. I use a few in powders, but for the most part they're just for looking at. The 30 or so seedlings came up from discarded pods and I transplanted them as a border along a couple of my beds. I also use them for Bonchi plants to keep my busy over the Winter months.

Great pics Shane! Lots of pods coming in for you. Ornamentals or not they look great! But the bird looks AWESOME!!

Aaron
Thanks Aaron, they are starting to put out a few pods...just waiting on the supers now. Won't be long!

Mine is burried about 4 or 5" so hopefully it won't move. We don't get real bad wind that often. It's making a really good tomato cage! I think in a month the tomato will be to the top.

Tomato Cage... Brilliant.

The bottom of mine used to be beneath concrete... But in a windstorm it was blown over, completely torn loose and bent out of shape... had to fish it out of the canal once after that, and so I decided to move it... It gets less wind on the inland side of the house... its protected on two sides (as is the garden), but every now and then we get a wicked wind heading west or south and it gets knocked over...

If I use it as a tomato cage, I'll need to drive stakes into the ground and tie it down... But I think it would work well...

Got the powder today. I must say it is super tasty. The smoked manzano powder is so yummy. Not gonna last long at the romy6 house.

Thanks bro!

Glad you like it! Its my favorite so far...gonna keep experimenting.

Everything look amazing Shane especially the tomatoes. I forgot to ask how did you enjoy the Thai Dragon I sent?
It was good! Not as hot as the cayenne, but good. Only thing was it was a little tough/chewy. Great flavor...and had a nice kick to it!

Finally got some flower action out there...
Here is a small update,
P1010257.jpg

First chinense (aside from the Wild Brazil) is the Red Lantern Habanero!

Weather is perfect, and its really starting to show. Was only out of town a few days and I came home to several new varieties with open flowers and pods! The Wild Brazil has put 30+ pods on this week alone! Won't be long before some ripe pods. Small harvest of green beans and a few cherry tomatoes today as well. Hope I can get around to a proper update this weekend.

Got a question for you fellow chili heads...do you cull pods to grow larger ones? Just curious...I think I should thin out the #'s on my Mucho Nacho and Poblano if I want them to get really big...plus I am gonna take a shot at the "longest pod" competition with my Big Jims and want to know how to give myself the best shot. I've always just let them go and was good with whatever they put out

Thanks for checking in folks!

Shane.

Yea I had the perception except I didn't get any flavor just with the one I ate hopefully the new ones put out a different characteristics, but they will be dried and turn into powder when I get enough of them. My wild brazil are just starting to skirt up so hopefully I start getting some pod action as well. What plant is that next to the mazano top view picture? Everything continues to look great once the pods to get completely ripe I will send you the seeds for the cayenne thick.

Had no idea you updated, fixed that! :) The manzano is looking great!! They are just so nice to look at. Ridiculous how much they go for huh? My yellow is loaded but I hear they take forever to fully mature! Will send you a few when they are done. Everything is looking really good Shane, plants are podding up nicely!

Shane, I wouldn't tweek that Manzano powder one bit. It is amazing. What type of wood do you use to smoke it?. Tell us your deep darkest secrets wise one  Now I really want to grow it. And I guess that powder you sent me is worth baout 50 bucks now. Sweet. No sharing with the wifey ;)

Oh and your plants seem to be enjoying the warmer temps

That is a hyacinth bean plant. Thanks again for the pods man! I will absolutely take you up on the seeds for the cayenne thick. I am about to have more of those little wild brazil pods than I know what to do with!

nice photos and im loving your thai ornamental
Those are some fun and beautiful little plants! Can scrape together some seeds if you want some!

I'm sneaky like that!!! Thanks for the kind words. I know they take for-freaking-ever to produce, but they'll be well worth the wait. Plus they should winter over here no problem so next year I should have a jump start!

Welcome back sailor! Looks like you got a rousing welcome from your babies at home.
I sure did! About time too! I should come home to a couple more varieties with open flowers today!

Thanks for the kind words and the thank you post in the lounge! I use old creosoted railroad ties and leftover pressure treated lumber...how are you feeling by the way? :liar:
Plain old oak my friend! Not quite $50...the powder I sent came from just under a pound of pods. So about $7.50...maybe I can talk the guys at the farmers market out of a bunch for a discount tomorrow???

The plants are looking fantastic! All the ugly is almost gown over. They are really starting to take off...FINALLY!!!

Hello...my name is Shane, and I am addicted to growing peppers.
