STC3248, Just Another Grow Log! Holiday Harvest!

Still waiting on the supers...but the rest are sprouted and under lights. This will be my first attempt at supers. Fingers crossed. I am so lost in the labels. I don't know how some of you keep them all straight??? Gave Paul ample opportunity to claim top of the page...oh well.

Here is a pic of a few of my barracks grow plants...
scotchbonnets.jpg

They've been exiled to the window sill...(I've been supplementing with some time under the lights in the evening when no one is looking...shhhhhh! :shh: 3 Scotch Bonnets and what I believe is an Explosive Ember???

i want....!!! why not use some of that GOV't money and ship em my way!! .....
I may bring one back up for ya...we'll see. I have so many more pots to fill now! Plus I gave you my runt Manzano...and you already got pods even with your dog destroying it! I still don't have pods on either of mine, but they're both loaded with flowers so it won't be long. If I gave you one of these I don't know if I could stomach you posting pod pics ahead of me on this one too!!!

Came home to more new flowers...must say being away for a few days makes checking the garden more of a surprise and less of a waiting game.

First planter box...left is a Wild Brazil, Front Center is a Tepin, Right is a Aji Omnicolor and middle is a Goats Weed. In the back unseen is a Peruvian White hab...may pull that poor little guy out of this jungle. I was hoping it would start to drape over the back like the Tepin's doing in the front.

P1010328.jpg

My other military planter...Left is a Pequin, front center is the Early Scotch Bonnet Annuum, Right is another Aji Omnicolor and in the back raising its hands is a Red lantern Hab...these two planters are going to be crazy in a month!

Here's today's harvest shot...

I have a ton more flowers on all my other plants as well plus many more near opening. More to follow tomorrow...I ate the hybrid bhut that Jamie sent me tonight and the video is uploading so be looking for that tomorrow as well...FREAKIN WOW!

Hope your grows are going well...glad I found this interesting pepper sub culture! Some really amazing and generous folks on here, and those qualities are getting more rare every year.

Thanks for looking in!
Shane

Bhut Video
Here is the video of me eating Jamie's Hybrid Bhut...Holy Freaking Crap!
My sense of taste is still screwed up...and probably will be for the next few days. Ughhhh brutal! Really wanted to kick the crap out of my daughter's boyfriend's punk a$$(you can see him in the mirror) during this video...probably would have made for better watching.

Hey Shane, loved the video man. The hiccup counting is epic! :) the commentary from the other two was just funny a$$ s#$! good stuff man! Would love to get my hands on some of those in the future.

I still got pieces of that hell caught in my teeth

too funny brother.

You should tell your daughters boyfriend if he doesn't eat one, you'll get yourself transferred to Florida.

Imagine if that beast had been fresh instead of dried. Bhuts are hot, but I dunno if they are hotter than a brainstrain, those things are pretty wicked.

Also, there is an international seed train rolling out here in a few weeks. Its going to cover the US first, and then off to the rest of the world, and then back for a second round.

they are full up on south easterners, but they still have I think 10 slots. Might be worth looking into.

You're a better man than I am Chief! I'm happy with what I've got... In your opinion, how do the Manzanos stack up against Jalapenos or Serranos? The Gochu peppers are about equivalent to pasillas for heat if you take the seeds and placentas out after drying. If you leave them in I'd say they're about the same as Serranos.

I think the manzanos are hotter but with a very different burn. Their burn is long, real long. But the flavor is amazing, definitely one of my favorites that I have tried.

Also, Shane you are awesome for taking that Bhut!

Niiiiice! Like a champ! I gotta tell you, you are way more of a man than I! If I had two people messin with me (well, one messin and one yelling at the other under their breath) I would have jumped out the window...I try to just go to my happy place and ride it out. I know that feeling where you think to yourself....Why in the F$#% am I doing this?!? Then you come down from the hell and think how awesome it is gonna be when you plant those seeds. I like to cut mine in half (partially to make sure that there are no bugs on the inside, and the other is to snatch up all the seeds!), and you just pulled the pin and went for the whole damn thing!

Hats off to you man. Hats off.

This one was fresh...the only bhut I had before that one was dried. Not nearly as hot as the Brain Strain I ate...or the one in my fridge waiting to be eaten!

Not gonna hit this train...last couple have been bummers and I am trained out after this last one got derailed by the USPS...trying to get it back on track. Maybe next year when hopefully I have a ton of harvested seeds to offer.

FULLY RIPE Manzanos are WAY hotter than either a Serrano or Jalapeno. They are on par with Orange Habs...by some estimates up to 250k scovilles. Not a big fan of the scoville scale because this pepper builds slow and as Hooda mentions gets REAL hot for REAL long. The reds are a tad hotter than the yellow/orange ones. Their flavor green almost has a hint of Bell Pepper flavor, but once ripe they don't resemble the flavor of any other pepper out there. They would love your climate, but they are one of the longest to maturity peppers out there. So you'd have to start some in the fall and overwinter them in order to get them to produce. Speaking of....
P1010333.jpg

They finally brought some more to the farmers market today!!! Powdered half today...other half tomorrow. Maybe we can work something out at some point where I ship you a few to try...

Also, Shane you are awesome for taking that Bhut!

Didn't feel awesome...gotta get through the Brain tomorrow

Here are a few pics I took friday that I didn't post...

Yeah...I am an all or nothing type guy. I was really trying to keep from blowing up on everyone in there...was rough for sure. I enjoy them filming me, but sometimes they try a little too hard. When he was "emotional day? You're crying!" I wanted to throw him out the window...not jump myself.

Thanks for looking in folks, try to take a few fresh pics tomorrow.

Oops almost forgot yours! That hiccup counting was the one thing that I thought was funny too...until some went up my nose. That's when the tears started to flow. Freaking ouch! Hopefully soon you and I both have our hands on our own bhuts instead of someone else's :censored:

Wow!!! Loving those Poblanos, and kicking myself for not starting some of the Goat Weed seeds I got from Smokemaster! And that bell pepper is just ridiculous!!!

So you think if I started a couple Manzanos now, I'd have some ripe ones by the end of next season?

You would probably have a few close by the end of this season. If I were you I would start some really early for next season and see how they do. Keep in mind they grow REAL fast, so space will be an issue for them. I think if you started some in November or December and could keep them going until plant out you'd do OK...then just cut them back to overwinter. Your short season will definitely be a problem, but they would absolutely love your summer climate.

You said it, I thought it... LOL!
Oh...I was thinking it then too. Nice kid, but lately he's been on my nerves.

Yeah, I was thinking Nov. or Dec. would be about right. Just kidding about starting them now for next year. My poor attempt at sarcasm.

I figured as much...they do have the potential to get huge. I think I read somewhere that they can eventually grow up and over 12'...that would be just NUTS! I washed some dirt off one of the roots of the one I have in the 7 gallon while watering today by accident. Looked like a tree root. It was a surface root as big around as my little finger...I think I need a bigger pot! Maybe I'll try to snap a pic of that root tomorrow. I was amazed!

Been pulling my hair out(well that's a lie...I have no hair) trying to figure out what has been destroying the leaves on the sunflowers I planted for my daughters. They are their favorites, and they were also the favorite of the young girl killed a few years ago here in Poway(she was actually murdered on a running trail in Rancho Bernardo) named Chelsea King. Both my girls went to school with her and her brother. So each year we put some in the ground to remember her. This year I have been having a real pest issue with them. Here is a pic of one of the leaves...
P1010341.jpg

I looked all over the plants for critters...but came up dry with the exception of a few aphids. Well this morning as I was giving them the peppers their weekly dose of Alaska Fish Ferts I finally found the culprit!

P1010340.jpg

You see it???

P1010340zoom.jpg

Not the greatest pic...but its a freaking finch! I sat and watched as droves of the little dudes came in and picked the leaves apart...never would have thought???

P1010338.jpg

Here is the pic I promised of the Manzano root...I put this guy in a 7 gallon, the biggest pod I had, thinking it would last its first season. Never seen a surface root like that on a pepper, most of them look like hair. but on this dude it has these finger thick roots all the way around! A closer inspection found tons of roots poking through the drain holes as well. Already outgrowing its 7 gallon shoes! Debated putting it in the ground, but it is doing much better than the in ground plant I have, so I think I am going to get him a nice 25 gallon container.

P1010339.jpg

7 Pot Primo...its flowering under there...all my container supers are developing this chia pet growth habit. Makes spraying for aphids ineffective. I found dozens of lady bugs today and many of them were striving to make dozens more when I saw them...so I think I am ready to let them try to handle it.

P1010336.jpg

Here are some of them chillin by the pool this morning while I smoked up some more Manzanos. You can see the Manzano in the 7 gallon the 2nd one past the large green planter. The next 5 gallon is a Douglah, then sticking with the 5 gallons next is a devils tongue, up on the step we have a 7 Pot Monster Infinity followed by a Brain Strain...then past the Aloe in the orange pot and moving left we have a Yellow Bhut, Red 7 Pot, Wild Brazil, and a Trinidad Scorpion.

Pretty slow update weekend by my standards, but not because there isn't a ton going on in the garden. Got some mulching done and adjusted the drip system a bit. Also installed some more pre-fab wire fencing to deter the dogs from getting into the garden. They have destroyed the Dahlias I planted for my wife. They'll come back, but they were just about to bloom damn! Hopefully the new fence keeps them at bay.

Several varieties have been blooming like crazy for a month, and setting very few pods, but that is finally changing. The Goat's Weed, Wild Brazil, Pequins and Tepins are finally starting to set pods on most of their blooms. Fish pepper is loading up and photo worthy...just didn't get around to it.

While I didn't take a ton of pics this weekend I did make 6oz of Smoked Manzano powder from the pods I pictured earlier!
P1010337.jpg

Here's the 2nd tray of Manzanos going in to the smoker...don't prefer the green ones, but once done the powder was still freaking wonderful!

I also made some of another favorite of mine which combines Pequins and Chile de Arbols....mmmmmmm!
P1010345.jpg

Sorry for the blurry pic...on the left is Pequin/Arbol on the right is Smoked Manzano.

Got the last 5 trays of peppers (smoked Jalapenos) in the dehydrator for the night. Will powder them when I get back home on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Last but not least, I ate another Jamie Brain Strain...took a vid, and in spite of my daughter's boyfriends father's comments and some terrible back lighting it turned out pretty well! Uploading now will post in the morning.

May be without internet for a few weeks, so if you don't hear from me its due to the cables on my block being replaced. I will be able to update from work, but that is not the best either.

Sorry for the book, but I am bored...and coming down off a Brain Strain endorphin rush. Thanks for looking in!
Shane

Shane, your plants are looking great - tough to be an absentee papa, huh?
The Cali sun is working its magic on your plants judging by the awesome Poblanos!
Loved the Goat's Weed shot, too!

After watching your video, I'm not sure how I feel about eating super hot peppers.
Jamie sent me some nice ones; I'm trying to figure out how to approach them : )
Your powders are really good - looks like a nice new batch!

I don't know which amazes me more, the finches, or the manzano root! Seems like
always something cool going on Poway! BTW, your poolside garden is over the top, my friend!

Have a good week, bro!

chiiiit man! Great review! I love how you get all Stonewall when the heat is peaking. thats how i feel when im really getting blasted! Plants look awesome, that primo is ridiculous! Yea thats weird with the finches ive never heard of them eating leaves before.

Me either... Finches are mostly seed eaters, but I guess they have to eat something in the spring. I've noticed that they eat Dandelion seeds, but if everybody wants a perfect lawn and digs them up it leaves the finches with nothing to eat. Somehow, I don't think your neighbors would let their Dandelions grow to help you out... Lovin' the scenery in pots around your pool man. It must be nice to have cool water next to your insanely hot plants!
