Hi Shane, Great looking garden and harvest as usual.

Into the smoker they go! The Poblanos had been roasted and peeled and the Bells precooked for 20 minutes to soften them up a bit.

I prefer charcoal myself, but I can't argue with the ease of operation and your results.

The Poppers...Mmmmmmmm. Made 44 of these and they were all gone between 4 of us before dinner!

Ah summertime! And the livin' is easy.... Ya gotta love a feed like that that you grew yourself. Cheers

Hope your weekend was a wonderful as mine!
Shane

Finally got a chance to really look at the plants today. The "not" Fish and Fish peppers are looking terrible. Toss up as to whether or not they'll make it. The 4 Mucho Nachos still look a little ill, but don't show any signs of transplant shock.

Found a couple cool things out there today as well...

Blurry from this angle, but this is a triple bloom! These don't usually set, but looks like 2 are trying...

P1010726.jpg

Better shot of it...this in on one of my Caribbean Reds...

Can't believe I hadn't noticed this yet but...

Here is a double that set on my 7 Pot this thing is loaded down with super gnarly pods...You can see where the hail topped this guy in the background.

If you look closely at this Dahlia bloom you'll see...

P1010729.jpg

A not so welcome visitor...this little dude blended in perfectly with the flower.

P1010730.jpg

Another Dahlia about the size of a dinner plate...

And a few more, glad momma talked me into these bulbs. the smallish plants in the lower left are volunteer ornamentals.

Have a nice evening folks!
Shane

Those poppers look so good! looks like you got to spend alot of time with your garden this weekend. Good news that your jals are hanging on cause it sounds like you guys eat a ton of them! Hey how long did it take to roast your pablanos before peeling them?
They were all delicious! I did spend a ton of time out there, but really didn't even have a chance to look at any but the sick ones for very long. For the poblanos and other green chilis like Anaheim and Big Jims I throw them on the grill and cook them on all sides until the skin starts to bubble and blacken just a little. Once all sides are slightly roasted I throw them in a plastic zipper bag and let them sit in there for about 15 minutes then drop them all in a bowl of ice water and peel. Quite a bit of work, but once you get the hang of it, its not too bad.

I hope you have leftovers to email me :fireball:
I had them all boxed up to send...then I noticed you were a Steelers fan so I ate them! Hahahaha Actually took the leftovers to work today, best lunch I've had in weeks!

fooooooooooooooooodddddd :drooling: :drooling: :drooling: :drooling:

ive been eyeing that smoker for a long long time, how was it?
Its Money so far! Like I said, I have been old school for so long when it comes to smokers that I held off way too long. They have others at HD available online that are digital with built in timers and remotes that aren't too much more expensive. This one is all you need though! Holds temp really well with the perfect amount of smoke. Go for it!

I felt the same way for years (actually until Saturday!)...but this one uses real wood, just MUCH less of it! Only used 4 small chunks of Hickory to smoke 2 trays of Manzanos and Jals and then cook all the peppers for dinner. The wood chamber is about the size of a cereal bowl and sits on the heating element. It has a loose fitting lid that allows the smoke to escape without the wood catching fire. The amount of wood and charcoal saved alone will pay the extra electric bill. It will also make a nice oven if I leave out the wood chips I can bake cornbread in there while I use old faithful and the propane grill for a party. Still not as nostalgic as my old cast iron smoker, and it does loose a little of the charm but its still a big winner in my book!

Easy on the Steelers. Let me know when the Chargers start filling up their second hand with rings. Your photography skills are getting better as the year goes on? What make and model is that camera? I am going to ride out this year with the phone cam,,but looking to have a proper one by the time next seasons seeds pop.

Wow Shane you have been a very busy man. Tons of poddage( harvests) and the pics just keep getting better and better. That smoker looks kick ass. And those poppers had be salivating and stomach growling.

So 44 poppers between 4 of ya but how many did you eat ;)

Shane pods are looking great hopefully the Mucho Nachos pull through
Thanks Fernando! They're gonna make it, but don't look as great as they once did. I think the only real hit will be to their production.

Not a Chargers fan...I'm a Texas boy, and life long Dallas fan. Although its hard to stay in their corner with they way they've been performing lately. All the talent in the world, but no heart. I am also old enough to remember the woes we had with the Steelers back in the '70's...although the last time we met at the bowl I think we took it! Yours is still the only team with more rings...and I'm really not a Steeler hater, the 9ers on the other hand...

The camera is a point and shoot Panasonic Lumix. I really want to invest in a nice camera but having a hard time convincing the boss.

I have been busy...re-did my entire drip sysyem and finally added a station for the containers and timers. I am now officially on auto pilot. I just have to find the sweet spot with the water schedule. I've been using the lift to check method on the containers. The ingrounds should be money now though. The smoker has me real pleased if you can't tell. I think I had 1 or 2 of the poppers??? :liar:

funny pinoy... last night my wife was like.. what, you gonna get a smoker now too... hahaha told her.. not yet... =D plus dont know cost of the wood to burn....

if you guys wanted info.. a DR i work with triggered me into getting camera with TIME STAMP...in this digital age we take so much pictures and print them... but we dont take time to store them and properly manage them.. later down the years.. i dont want to "GUESS" when it was taken.. so i got the canon SD780 IS its a few years old. but it does the job of date management... im trying to stay clear of my phone due to having more pepper pics/porn than i do of my kids :tear: .. just my 2 cents

now to make this a pepper reply... thanks again shane.. plants are thriving

Good to see them still kicking Denniz!

Bad news today. found a new plant infected. One of my Poblanos. It was right in the center of all my milds. I pulled it because I have two more, but I'm not going to transplants all its neighbors because that would be that whole bed. Hadn't seen any new signs for a while...oh well.

Good news is I received a package yesterday!
P1010732.jpg

Fernando sent me a Yellow Bhut, Cayenne and ??...??? I will have to inquire about the rest. I am thinking some sort of thai and a couple 7's??? I have a few peppers I need to do vids with now. Definitely want to capture the Bhut on vid and a pod Melissa sent that is a mystery...Going to grab some seeds from each first.

I'm stumped on the virus issue. Don't think there is anything left to do but wait and see.

Hey Shane glad to see they got there safe I was worried with the heat and usps uncertainty it would ruin the pods. The top is a Thick Cayenne rather then dry seeds fresh would be better, yellow bhut, the two on top are mini 7 pod burgundy, bottom three mystery pods. Hope you enjoy can not wait to see your review.

Really hope I like the Yellow Bhut!!! I got a few on the way! Was getting dark in a hurry, but some turned out ok.

BIg Jim update for Rick...
P1010738.jpg

Haven't counted but guessing near 100 pods on 4 plants about this size now. Insane production and growth. Two plants are podding longer and more slender pods, the other two are more stubby. Losing that Poblano isn't gonna hurt too much! Can't wait to rellenify (made that word up) these babies! I'm thinking a few weeks off from harvesting a few that are developing a bit undersized.

These are for Pinoy...or Denniz can't remember who was wondering if they should start some compost tea...these are of the first area I started using the compost tea.
Three weeks ago...

Today!
P1010739.jpg

Sorry its so dark...Hard to tell, but the back row plants are starting to catch to big ones out front. Bottom line is DO THE TEA!!! Mine's not 100% organic because I use half empty sodas laying around to feed the culture. I also mix it 1/2 strength with 1/2 strength MG plant food. I had been using just the MG but once I started adding the tea to this garden they all passed the rest of my plants and haven't looked back. Now brewing on a larger scale and feeding them all including the containers.

Was really worried that I wouldn't get good production first year. Heard so many stories about folks only getting a handful off their plants first time around. They're all loading up with crazy numbers. I am so thankful for the healthy ones I have out there. Just hope I can keep them that way...starting to see a few supers that may be ripening. I predict a ton of PAIN soon!!!

nice shane.... dammit.. i guess i will have to make an attempt to make my own tea... sheesh... you guys are killing me... btw im gettin immune to the peppers.. lol...send some my way when they ripen and will do a review.. haha even it it last 40seconds

Nice looking plants Shane, sorry the virus is an issue. Love the new smoker, what'd it set ya back? I'm thinking seriously about going eletric myself, so curious.
Thanks Dennis, that's some good stuff you got there. The not sick plants are producing like crazy Shane, gonna have many more great harvests my friend so
no biggie.

Hey brother got the gift in the train box :) Thanks much! really stoked about those!! I haven't tried them yet, but I will for sure. If they taste half as good as they smell, they will be winners in my book :)

Sorry to hear about the sick plants too... Is it seed borne? I've been thinking about all the seed trading I've been doing, and how last season I dipped exactly one batch of seeds in to peroxide water (sterilize)... I doubt anyone would be cruel enough to send seed from known sick plants, but recieving seed from plants that are sick, but not symptomatic (apparently there is a 2 week window where some things are catchy, but don't show...) is another story entirely.

approaching 300 varieties of seeds, and so far so good... But all it takes is one bad one to be in a world of hurt.

How are the isolated plants fareing?

Hi Shane, It looks like the tea really is working for you. Reading the thread started by CalvinGuitarist I see that Pepperguru and others say that the teas help keep down pests by coating the plants with a "biofilm" if foliar fed... It could be... if so, I suppose it's sort of like the mucus film fish have on them to protect from fungal and bacterial infections. The "OB" report on your chiles looks excellent for the most part. We'll keep pullin' for ya as far as the sick ones go. Looks like you might be getting close to "Term" with the superhots. Good on ya all around. Cheers
