smokers THE AUSSIE BUILD A UGLY DRUM SMOKER SMACK DOWN! MOYBOYvsCHILLIMAN!

Hey guys, I have a question. Is the bottom cut out of your drum? Anyone put legs on theirs? I am beginning to think I may have to make one of these...

no the bottom is not cut out. you are trying to build a convection oven effect. if u cut out the bottome, its hard to keep a good seal going on. u will have problems with the air intake which is the key factor in a UDS.

it has been tried many times, many people want to try and "improve" on it but end up resorting back to the basic UDS. People have tried putting a side door in them as well, but sealing the door properly ends up being a problem

Weeping Jesus on the Cross.....

We're gonna have to do one of those around the world toasts like they're trying to get together for the 250th anniversary of Guinness Stout for Moyboy if he ever gets this damn smoker fired up!

You just let us know in advance Moyboy. I never pass on a chance to drink at odd times in the day because someone else says I should!

You can buy that stuff that seals up oven doors, that metallic mesh seal. You can get it at appliance stores, or probably Sears, or online. That is, if you want the door.

I was thinking about a door to remove my ash tray or to add more smoking wood, But I think it might be more trouble than it's worth.....

if u use would chunks and put enough in at the start, no need to add wood.

5 fist sized chunks of your chosen wood is plenty for an average smoke and it probably wont all burn.

to remove your ash, simply put an old pizza pan under the bottom of the charcoal basket and u can lift it all out in one shot the next day to clean it

Yeah rebel without a cause. Well i do have a cause and it is to beat moyboy at the UDS making. All well i should get a start late September.

Hhahaha nice change to the poll!

Edit: Couldn't be bothered working out the proper percentage though you lazy ass.

yeah lots and lots of nem members....and funny how they all seem to feel I won't get it made......I'll show them.....

I guess it's only fitting that we have imaginary members vote on the completion of the IDS!!!

well untill i get some funds the uds is off for now. i was thinking of converting my old explodeing grill into a charcoal/smoker grille.

take the rotten old burner out. take put carcoal in the bottom put the lava stone on top. or make a diflecter and bring it back from the dead. it got retied 2 years ago after 4'' flames started to shoot out the bottom.

Can't beleive I've been missin out on this thread. Some really, really funny stuff. And some educational stuff too!

Two questions- first, do these things blow away regular store bought smokers, or is it just a how much you can smoke at a time/savin $ sorta thing?

Second, Moyboy- can I have your drum if you don't use it?
