Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Kitchen Today
I went to the post office this morning. Happened to see Julie, a neighbor who I had given some dried 7 Pots to. She was supposed to have gotten some seeds also, but they fell out of the car and I found them in the driveway. So I ran to my car for her chile seeds and she went to her car for some pepper her husband brought back from Nepal. Julie and I swapped baggies in the parking lot of the post office at 10:20 am.
These are some kind of peppercorn that the Nepalese use in their daily cooking, VERY different from regular black peppercorns.
David asked the people if he could bring a bunch home, so they went outside and just stripped a bunch off of the bush for him. They have little bits of stem still attached and will need to be cleaned. I tasted a little piece right out of the bag. It smells almost licorice-y and it makes the tongue and mouth go numb. Dave said some people even have their whole face go numb. After tasting it, I thought, "I gotta share this with Scovie and CJ!"
Off to the grocery store for some grubbage. Hoped to run into Scovie and CJ at the store, often happens on Saturday mornings..but not today. The salsa shelf is empty, so I picked up stuff to make another batch of salsa today. I had great ambitions of coming home, whipping out a batch of salsa and getting it back to the store for the big New Year's Eve rush.
But, then I went to CJ and Scovie's house......
Lookie what they gave me for Christmas!
! Thanks, guys! xoxo
And they come with their own geeme cover! I can take one, drill a little hole and insert a grommet and a straw and have the perfect sumertime fruit-fly proof wine glass!
They also hooked me up with some homemade chili powder and Sethsquatch pepper-garlic powder (AWESOME stuff Sethsquatch!) Well, so much for making salsa today....it's DC TIME!
Pork, some pork rub and Scovie's on both and some sethsquatch powder on one. Already in the smoker~
Here's the Nepalese peppercorns.
Happy New Year's Eve everyone! SoFlo, keep that Bear outa the drunk tank tonight!
