October is...
My Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest is a festival celebrating beer. Many establishments and neighborhoods around the globe throw their own Oktoberfests, but they spend more time trying to be German, than concentrating on what it is all about. BEER! So ditch the lederhosen. This one is all about local beer and food. Celebrate it! You can be as broad as beer from your country, to as focused as the brewery in your neighborhood. You can also use a local favorite even if it is not from your area (ex: Cuban beer in Miami). Oktoberfest is also about German delicacies, usually of the salty or cured meat variety to complement the beer. But this is about the food from your area!
Now we get to the TD.
1. Find the beer (brand name) that best represents where you live.
2. Create or replicate a dish that represents where you live using beer an an ingredient.
3. Name your dish with the beer in the title, and tell us why it is special to your area, and how you used it.
Ex:
"Corona Fish Tacos"
I live in Mexico, and we love Corona. I used Corona in the beer batter for the tacos. I also made a beer hot sauce with lime and agave.
Remember it's a celebration of beer, so celebrate the beer by using it as many ways as possible. It may not be a dish you'd eat every day, but one you'd expect at a beer fest. Think of it as a beer tasting... with food.
Anything goes, but what is allowed is:
One main dish with beer as an ingredient.
Two side dishes max with the same brand beer as an ingredient* (but sides are not necessary) all on one plate unless not physically possible. Sauces and condiments may be on the side, and do not have to have beer.
If you can't think of a good side dish for the beer, just don't make one. Concentrate on the main dish. Sometimes less is more. But since this is a feast of sorts, two are allowed. The hard part is using the beer. It's a challenge, remember?
*Use the same brand name beer, but if you wish, you can change the beer type as long as the brand as a whole represents your area. Like anything from Brooklyn Brewery, for Brooklyn.
I'll up the pic max to 3 on this one. Use them how you wish but make sure the beer is in one of them.
Official post Friday.
