As of 1945 when my Dad left Nüremberg, it was still a harvest celebration. He cringed at the American interpretation of "Oktoberfest". Neighborhoods got their veggies, firewood, etc in... Time for a "block RAGE" (as we say).

Do your thang~

"When Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria wanted to celebrate his wedding engagement in 1810, he did what any good Bavarian prince would – he threw a beer festival. Both the festival and the special beer served there became known as Oktoberfest. Brewed from the finest German malt and hops."

Beer has always been there, and yes the year after his big party they built it around an ag show and horse race.

In 1818 they began selling it in the street with street food all over not just at the ag show.

Are you going to debate... research... or... enter?

OK.

But my dad that was born in Abenburg, remembers it as a Harvest Festival.
Beer and Schnapps were involved...

Just trying to post a fun TD brother, unless you want to race horses for authenticity points. :D

I removed the words "plain and simple" since that bothered you.

Sounds good wheebz. I'm sure you can tie the beer into your own local Oktoberfest story! With tater tots.

STARTS TOMORROW I hope some people are going to get their Oktoberfest on! Open to cook whatever you want... with beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer! Using your local beer.

I guess I will go Amish here since that what everyone thinks of from where I live.  I still have to figure out what I am going to cook.  I know what beer I am using.

My local beer??? We don't really have a local beer in Miami.
And I haven't homebrewed in a while...
I guess my LOCAL beer is the one I drink the most...Busch Light.
Do I have permission to highlight it's delicate flavor profiles into a savory October dish?
