The Pacific Northwest GLOG 2015

Today launches The Pacific Northwest GLOG 2015, geared towards growers from this region.  Since there appears to be disagreement on what states, and areas, actually comprise the Pacific Northwest, I will use a broad definition, in order to include more growers.  If anyone thinks the definition could be even more broad, it can always be changed.  Come one, come all.

Oregon
Washington
Alaska
Northern California
Idaho
Montana
Wyoming
British Columbia

I am from the Rogue Valley, in southern Oregon, so, I will begin with a couple of shots from my yard, which over looks the Rogue River.

It's still December 2014, but I've been busy putting together my grow list for the 2015 PNW season.  My seeds will be planted around the second to third week of this month.  I'm cutting a bit back from last season, so, here's my modest grow-list to kick things off for the 2015 season.

Seeds be popping here as well! 11 up and 149 to go (hopefully)
Only 149...I want to see photos later in the season of the whole crop.  It will be killer.

I got my 4'x4' corner of the basement set up again today since the seeds are germinating.  I'm using a new potting soil this season, instead of the Happy Frog that I've used in the past.  It contains: Coir, forest products, peat moss, rice hulls, pumice, composted chicken manure, horticultural sand, dried poultry litter, feather meal, bone meal, bat guano, seabird guano, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, worm castings, dried sardine meal, crab meal, kapok seed meal, dolomite and oyster shell (for pH adjustment), mycorrhizae and beneficial microbes, Saponin (Yucca) extract (which protects microbes).  I added additional worm castings, and bokashi to the mix.  I won't be needing any additional fert for a few months.

400-watt HPS that I bought last season.

Powering up.  18/6.

Very nice set-up, Jim!

That 400W HPS ought to do some heine bootin'!
Good to see ya on yer way...

Jim,

I got a kick out of your Grandson helping. Kids that age just love to help. And he did a heck of a job! I sow tomorrow, can you bring him by?

First 32 seedling in their new pots.

You're ahead of me.  I only have 22 seedlings right now.  For some reason, they have been quick to germinate this season.  So, that still leaves 100+ to go for you, right?  What lights are you running?

A bunch did germ pretty quick thats for sure. Still have 100+ and a bunch that are stubborn to break the surface. They have been sitting this way for the last day and half.

I have 2 600 hps that are ready to roll and 2 more that I need to replace the bulbs on. I'm thinking about putting them under a couple of 4 foot walmart shop lights at the moment that I have laying around. Just till they get a little stronger.

So, that's 4-600watt hps lights, total? I won't ask about your electric bill...

I'm guessing you have about an 8'x8' space?

I have a total of 5 but only running 4-600. 1 ballast I keep as a back. I only have the ballast at the moment for that back up one. The electric is not that bad really, I use the heat generated by the lights for heating when I have them running. 2400 watts puts out some heat. I have a 12x18 area to use, but the lighting coverage would be 8x8.

You bet. I'll have the first tent setup by next week. Just gotta finish up some new wiring to handle the draw needed for all the equipment. Here's the cheap shop lights I'm using at the moment to strengthen the seedlings.

LoL! None taken. I just had to get some lighting on them for the time being. All my outside christmas lights and decorations are all on the same circut I needed to run my hps. Other half wont let me take it down till after christmas. I just cant understand that thinking.

She was on me about bringing them into the office for now. Tis is why I have a John Wayne sign behind them just for her to see.

First batch is in the dirt...  I now have massive cramps since I didn't eat breakfast and I started munching on ajijoe's dried pepper inside the seed packets. Ouch!

Edited with most recent update of what I'm going to grow.  Damn you all!

Look's like everyone has a good start to the new season. I'm hoping to get mine started before I have to head out on a 2 week work trip. I'm going with coco and my LED once again this year. Seemed to have decent luck with it last year. Going to have to rely on my wife to take care of them while I'm gone and frankly that can be a bit of a problem. Man I'd love to hook up a drip system.

Really only looking at starting Bhut Jolokia's and J-MoA's. There's not much in my old seed stock that I'm interested in growing. That said new varieties are always tempting.
