food The Pescetarian

The better half and I were both feeling like seafood tonight, so she went and picked some stuff up while I was at work. Salmon fillet, shrimp and a few scallops. My piece of salmon was seasoned with a little salt and a generous dose of the ever usual lemon drop powder (can't get enough of that stuff on seafood!) and my wife had salt and black pepper. Shrimp seasoned the same, and scallops seasoned with a little salt and black pepper. Salmon and fries were baked and the shrimp and scallops were grilled.

Hey y'all.

I was checking out the local Guitar Center and after I rolled out of there I see a little hole in the wall joint across the parking lot in a strip mall.

Machu Picchu ~ Peruvian Cuisine'.

Sounded good. I rolled all up in they 'thang and a nice Peruvian gal, Gina, struck up a conversacion' en espanol'.

After some very nice yakkety yakking she gave me a menu. Damn if it didna' look like the real deal.

I opted for the Chaufa del Mariscos.

That's "Seafood Fried Rice" for you gabacho's que no hablar.

Mussels, shrimps, squid, scrambled egg, with red & green bell peppers, carrots, onions, all fried up with the rice and served with a picante verde. I picked out all the seafood & veggies and ate that but only ate a couple mouthfuls of the rice.

All I can say is it was DAMN GOOD!!!!!

Sheeit....photocrap is down!

I gotz peecher's for later y'all.

Pinky promise.

Oh yeah! Should have started with some ceviche. Go back!

PIXXX!

That scallop on the left has a killer sear on it.

Photojunk is back up.

As promised y'all.

Their website domain is expired but this'll do.

THP I wanted the ceviche but it was HUGE and I told her I wanted something a little smaller and lighter and she recommended the Chaufa de Mariscos.

I can't even tell you what was in the picante verde. Muy picante' and hints of lime and a touch of cilantro. Other than that I couldn't pin it down. All I know is it was the perfect condiment for the chaufa.

Lots of little shelled mussel meat in their along with heaps of shrimp and squid. Dig the lone mussel in the shell. That one was fried and a touch crispy. Unbelievably good.

If I were to guess, the portion weighed about 3 pounds. Enough for a 3 person lunch I reckon. Thankfully I only sampled the rice and ate the seafood and some veggies.

I have to say I was impressed to say the least. I'd say it was plain OUTSTANDING!

Word to the wise y'all.

Never overlook funky hole in the wall joints.

You never know when you'll find some magic goin' on!

THP, that recipe and pic from SE looks and sounds like it fits the description as per what I had.

Onliest 'thang is there wasn't any cheese in it that I could tell.

Yesterday I went along with mrs. blues and her project team. We ended up at Clearwater Beach for lunch.

They all wanted to try this joint although I was poo poo'ing it as it looked too damn touristy.

http://www.crabbybills.com/Clrwtr.html

I was correct about it being beaucoup touristy. But it also had a bunch of locals up in there.

And the food was nothing but CHINGON!

I had a grilled grouper sandwich. mrs. blues had the crab/spinach/artichoke dip n' chips and we ordered a crab cake for an app.

I failed to get a pic of the crab cake but it was hot, fresh, and goodern' hell. What really jerked my chain was the "crabby sauce" that came with it. It was a mayo/mustard/horseradish based sauce with the addition of a lime juice and a touch of vinegar and hot sauce. KICKASS! mrs. blues doesn't like that sort of stuff but when she tasted it she ordered an extra side just to dip into with the dusted fries that she stole from me. She has demanded that I whoop up a riff on it when we get home.

You can see one of the chip's with the arti/crab dip on my sammich toppings. Fresh made fried tort chips. mrs. blues mao mao'd the hell out of it and it was dadgum guud!

The grouper was as fresh as it gets y'all as was the tomato. I threw the lettuce on the ground.

One of the 'thangs to eat in on my list in Tampa was to get a really good grouper sammich and this one exceeded my expectations. I tried it first as is with nothing more than a squeezin' of lemon wedge and it was killer.

Then I put the paietus to it and splooged on some of that "crabby sauce" and a generous splooge of Crabby Bill's proprietary cayenne sauce.

It was redonkulous! On the toasted squishy bun and just the onion and tomato and sploogey stuff I was playin' conductor on the grouper love train.

There's a shitton (official SoFlo measurement) of local hole in the wall seafood joints once you get away from the 60 causeway and head down to St. Petersburg and can only hope at this point that we can get down brown down there to sample up some of the funky junk. Ever body's got fresh mahi and grouper, shrimps, and crab.

I love to be lovin' it loooooong time!

I'd chairman mao the sheeit out of that!  It rocks harder than Chinese 'rithmetic.

Rice has little nutrition of value other than filling you up.

I'd rather fill up on other stuff that has little or no nutritional value.

Like hosky.

Which would you rather have more.

Rice or beer?

I rest my case.

I have to admit.

A burger and a brewhaha is about it for me.

Fries are all cool and the gang to pick at and don't get me wrong, I lovem', but I'm just a pussy and can't eat as much as I used to.

Nor do I want to.

I feel like a bloated cow right now.

As I do every damn time I'm away from home and my own kitchen.

Eatin' out at restaurants for 5 or 6 days at a time ain't how I roll.

I can't wait to get home to my own house and my missylou.

Boooooooooooo TB..... a glorious meal of Chaufa de Mariscos and you only eat a coupla mouthfuls of rice ...... wtf!?!...... Cmon man..... your breaking my heart here :mope:

Mate if you happen to find yourself in another Peruvian joint keep an eye out if they have a dish called Sudado de Pescado, that may be right up your alley, its a soup/stew with great punchy flavours that dont over power the fish, chest thumping stuff it is

Sorry Tinnie but I just can't eat that much no mo'. For sure the rice was hella good and what I would describe as "feedbag good".
You know what I mean. "I need a bigger muther forking spoon good"!

Shovel it in!

Here I come Hippy Thread!!!

Broiled Haddock, Wild Rice, and Green Beans.

The fish is seasoned with Lawry's Perfect Blend Fish Seasoning, and topped with Tobago Key's Peruvian Golden Sauce.  The rice has sea salt, garlic, black pepper, cilantro, and tarragon.  The beans just have sea salt and butter.
