Devil's Tongue is an orange Fatalii?
BTW how are those "Broome" peppers? the picture at 'thechileman.org' is weird.

Were the pods red ripe? If so, I'd like to get some seeds if you saved a bunch. :) Maybe we can trade for something?

Chris

omri already took care of this question - not ripe. & why would you want or trade for seeds pulled from store bought chiles ?

omri - this is where a good "" would be suited. " Do they look ripe to you ? "

like this...

yes Omri devils tongue/ orange fatalii same and the one:rolleyes:

the broom are funny I get flowers no fruit yet the plant has been snappedin half and treated fairly poorly but its comming back.

Hey Stilly! I see youve got Scotch Bonnets on your list. Ive just had my first harvest of Scotch Bonnets, I was pretty disappointed with them, not much heat & they smell like a coalminers armpit

Maybe it's just me acting like an idiot, but from what I've seen (pictures only) Devil's Tongue peppers don't look like a Fatalii (Fatalii-like? sure, but not the same), and they're yellow.

Good luck with the Broome. when you get the first pods, I'd like to have a little "review". ;)

I've grown Devil's Tongue and Fatalii, and they were not the same pepper. I got my Devil's Tongue from http://www.chileplants.com, but I've had Fatalii's from several sources.

I have also grown Trinidad Seasoning and Tobago Seasoning, both from chileplants.com, and they are two different peppers. The Tobago Seasoning was more wrinkled.

From now on, you're my source of information.

Yep, I does say a lot about you.

I didn't say they were the same I'm saying devils tongue are orange fatalii. the only difference between fatalii (true) and devils tongue or orange fatalii is the fact devils tongue are more orange. plant structure seed count flavour and heat are the same

These are pics of my devils tongue notice the colour difference from fatalii also if you leave them longer on the plant they are even more orange.

Pam sowhat I was saying is I believe the devils tongue is a colour variant within the fatalii type.
Omri you are a truely frustrating human being, don't take that too personally I like to challenge myself and I don'tmind explaining myself lol.

ps I still think tobago and trinidad seasoning are the same lol

by all mean ask, I'm only messin round man.
I call devils tongue orange fatalii it stirs people up which is not my intention... I've had the same discussion with people all over the world on various forums the general consesus is that I am wrong.... and I probably am, very little is known about either fatalii or devils tongue.

I got my seeds from a customer who came in our cafe they got the pods from an indian family that had brought it back from overseas, they had lived in the west indies, trinidad believe it or no, but I think the seeds were from india before that I don't know.(the family had grown them for years and used the pods in fish dishes exclusively)
they had a name in there native language that translated to devils tongue
I got the seeds grew them out and couldn't believe how much similarity there were to them and fatalii, some pods at certain stages of ripeness were basically identicle. Both plants were lrg both produced ubuntently, devils tongue were occasionally slightly broader and a little heavier in the pod. cooking wise there was no discernable diference what so ever... at the endofthe day one was yellow and one went more orange.

Either way Fatalii and devils tongue (orange fatalii) are two very similiar great types of chilli both my equal favourite, both underated super hots.

Reference the discussion of a few days ago about there being enough confusion in pepper nomenclature.

And if I threw a handful of Grenada Seasoning peppers in the mix, you'd have even more trouble telling which was which. Generally they're shorter and broader, but some look exactly like Fatalii or Devil's Tongue peppers. That's the thing about Clan Chinense, and most of the other species, come to think of it; there are so many varieties that are very, very similar, and probably closely related.

I don't know what your seed source on the Trinidad Seasoning and Tobago Seasoning peppers is, but I can assure you that the plants I got from chileplants.com are two separate, albeit similar, varieties.

I agree that the Fatalii and devil's tongue are slightly different in color but that's about the only difference I've noticed. Same heat and flavor but for me the Fatalii was possibly a little more productive.

yeah yeah ...science win but I love a witch hunt.

I conceed defeat Pam. But If in time I a proven right I will be weilding a very large axe lol Have a good new year all.

They certainly look different. I have both types but both of mine look more like the tobago but not wrinkly so maybe thats what I got. I got my seeds from John F.

Pam, where did you get seeds for that Trinidad Seasoning pepper on the left? I'd like to grow it. It is different than others I have tried. I like the shape of the pods.

For Stillman: Trinidad Seasoning on the left, Tobago Seasoning on the right.

I got both as plants from chileplants.com .

I haven't isolated any pods for seed from that plant, but I can if you want seed. And if it survives the winter in the hoop house. It's not liking the cool temperatures.

If it doesn't survive, I will be ordering another plant, so I can send you some seeds this summer if all else fails.
