Trippaul Threat (PdN x BMJ) Community Grow

This is a dedicated grow log for Tristen's awesome cross, which I
have been growing out since 2014.  I'll start with a bit of history and
some photos documenting what's happened so far.

In January of 2014, Tristen (Trippa) sent me a little care package of seeds.
In the package were two generations of a cross he had made, which he just
called 'Mystery Cross, F1' and 'Mystery Cross, F2'.

Here's Trippa's Mystery Cross seedlings in February of 2014:

Both generations showing the purple foliage characteristic since the beginning.

Up close look at Trippa's Mystery Crosses, F1 and F2.  Both culled to a single
plant after the photo taken, so I only had one plant of each generation:

Trippaul Threat v2 F3 yellow variant really is a great looking plant and very productive.
Trippaul Threat ‘White Lightening’ looks amazing it's retained its heritage but swapped it on its head how wierd but also gorgeous to look at..the flowers are lovely.
Hey, buddy, you are right about the yellow variant.
Super productive and a beastie of a plant. this one
is in an 18-gallon container:

Funny that only the small F9 White Lightening has
the erect pods and flowers, the plant in the 3-gallon
pot still has the pendant ones.

Hope your grow is rockin' my friend!

Better late than never!

Nice risers Paul!
I've managed to stunt my Purple F7, and it still looks to be producing sizeable pods. I hope I figure out a better solution for it indoors this year, as it didn't seem to care for how I had it. Hoping for a bigger year from it next year. So cool to see the many variations of this around.

Yes, the seeds I sent you were The Trippaul Threat Peach variety.
Really looking forward to see how they perform for you. Good luck
with the over wintering!

Looks like you will at least get some
seeds for next season, Tyler!

The plant has nice looking foliage.

Starting to harvest some of the earlier pods from the Trippaul Threats...

From the F9 Trippaul Threat White Lightening.
Mostly runts, but a couple of decent pods. I
think I am finally comfortable thinking that the
cross has stablized :party:This plant is in a true
3-gallon container.

The Trppaul Threat v2 F3 Yellow, in a 3-gallon pot. Also mostly runty
pods, but some that give a preview of what the pods should look like.
The sun has bleached a few, I hope the later season pods have that
nice bright yellow color.

Pods are looking super Paul, the F9 T White look like consistant pods and super stable, nothing better than a Harvest.🙂

Thanks, talas. If we have a decent 5-6 weeks
of good Fall weather, there should be some
great pods ripening. Will keep you posted!

Good illustration of the importance of growing multiple plants
in the early generations of a cross. These two v2 F3 came from
yellow pod seed, but the one on the right has much darker pods
and more purple leaves than the bright yellow I wanted. The plant
on the left has greener leaves, but the nice bright color. The other
two V2 F3 plants in the grow also have the yellow pods.

Not sure what the final pod color on the darker plant will be.

Love that you are going to get a nice surprise with V2 F3 plant multi plant grows can throw some surprises even from the same pod, perfect example here
Both the Trippaul threat variety's look great love the White lightning have the same of white yellowish tinge of Murupi.🙂👍

@talas - Right now the darker ones look like they will be a yellow/caramel.
first rain in almost three months this weekend, about 1.5" in the forecast.
That will cause lots of pod-splitting, so am going to pull the pods I can today.

Hi all,

Trying to identify and unknown purple chilli I have brought me to this thread.

Reading the history of this cross brought me to the forum.

Just wanted to praise everyone that's been involved with growing this variety out, very very interesting to a chilli novice.

Massive respect to PaulG for persevering with this and hoping I could potentially get involved in stabilising it further. (Granted latest updates are looking good on the white.)

Nice to have you here Yorkshire Spice making yourself an active member in the forum I'm sure will let the people involved in this grow know that you will be a worthy grower of this variety in the future.👍

Yes of course, lots of content to get through and get active with as work allows.

Just wanted to extend my praise for this thread as it's highlighted THP as resource/community.

Thanks for the kind words, @Yorkshire Spice, and
welcome to the 'glogosphere'! Always good to see
more members from across the pond! Any success
of this grow log is due to the community members
who have taken the time to join in. New folk always
welcome!

I would be happy to share some seeds with you if
you would like to join in. There are some 'violet'
varieties around as well as the v2 F3 variants. It
has been a fun project so far.

It'd be an absolute pleasure to join in, after reading every page of this I think it'd be rude not to! I'm happy to try both in the name of science.

The violet was an interesting result when everything seemed to be going white.

Proceeding by fits and starts, pods ripening up in little bunches.

These White Lightening F9 have some beautiful violet shading
at the tips. Haven’t seen that yet this season, but has been a
trait in the past.
